    I would strongly recommend refitting the drain plug before changing filter & pouring in new oil.

    Thanx a LOT for this video. It's shows that a ordinary oilservice aren't "rocketsceintific"... It saves a lot of money for each and everobody. Why pay about 200€ for a workshop job,when you are able to pay about 50€ for oil and filter ? On the other hand: I DON'T feel good with 30000km on oil replacement(!) No MOORE than 15000km are ok in my point of view.

    Thanks for useful videos. I have an X3 F25 LCI 2016 and believe the engine code is N47 as well. I have been looking for where the oil filter was located in the engine bay in a couple of weeks and could not figure out where it was hidden. After watching this video, I now realize it is hidden under the housing cover. I am glad that I have watched this videos, otherwise I have to bring my car to the BMW service department.

    Always use a torque wrench the spec for the oil filter housing and sump plug is 25nm. Also the oil filter comes with a copper gasket that must be replaced everytime you disturb the sump plug.

    Can't believe how easy the oil filter is to change, I've got to climb right into mine to get to but then my Diesel filter is much easier to get to but on the BMW it's bloody hard.

    I'm no mechanic but I bet I could change the air filter in about 10 mins

    Thank you, John, for the awesome Video. Am going to attempt the fuel filter next week, Am a little worried about it taking a few attempts to restart the engine? What should I expect to happen? Sorry for stupid question. Better than paying BMW over £650 to do it though!

    • @johnjoerice
      @johnjoerice  7 лет назад +3

      tubeless1975 it's always going to take a few attempts no matter who does it. There is a fuel pipe between the fuel tank and engine and in the middle of the pipe is a filter containing a half litre of diesel, when you swap the filter it will take a few attempts to pump diesel through the new filter, nothing will happen until the fuel passes through the new filter and ignites the engine

  • @vitasvitas1064
    @vitasvitas1064 2 года назад +1

    You must use diagnostic tool to fill up diesel filter.. you trying just start engine you do damage for high pressure pump. Then it cost fortune

    Is that the correct oil ? There are two types of Castrol Edge 0w30.
    It looks like oil for a petrol engine

    • @johnjoerice
      @johnjoerice  8 лет назад +2

      +mikeecho101
      Castrol EDGE 5W-30 A3/B4 is a BMW Longlife-01 approved oil. Oil selection is something that needs to be researched by each individual before servicing. Different oil viscosity for different weather conditions and people have their own preference for Mobil1, Shell or Castrol. I used Castrol EDGE 0W-40 A3/B4 after the above service but from reading up on oil 5w-30 is suitable for Australia as it never gets below freezing
      www.castrol.com/en_au/australia/products/cars/engine-oils/castrol-edge/product-range.html

    • @mikeecho101
      @mikeecho101 8 лет назад

      +John Rice i have Castrol EDGE 5W-30, LL01 but it doesn't say A3/B4 on the lable

    • @Jnilsson27
      @Jnilsson27 8 лет назад

      mikeecho101 is correct. The petrol engines with NOx-sensors require LL-04 as well as the diesel engines with diesel particle filters. My previous 335i (N54) was ok with LL-01 due to the fact it does not have NOx-sensors. The owners manual stated LL-04.

      To me Castrol send me this message,- BMW (EU) 520d. Recommended oil: EDGE 0W-30 or Magnatec Stop-Start 5W-30 C3.

    • @johnjoerice
      @johnjoerice  7 лет назад +1

      KL4K50N you can buy Castrol anywhere and it's the BMW recommended oil, you could use Shell or any other as long as its BMW LL oil

    • @johnnyzarrrriiizony07L
      @johnnyzarrrriiizony07L 7 лет назад

      I know, but at this moment castrol oil is not the same like was few years ago. For my F10 i useing only Liqui Moly

    • @goranblomqvist1482

      it doesen't matter wich oilmanufactuerer you choose. What's matters that it fulfill the BMW LL-04 specification.

    • @johnjoerice
      @johnjoerice  8 лет назад

      +P Os A local BMW specialist wanted over $600 (AUD) to do this job. BMW would not quote me before booking the car in. I am sure BMW would have asked for twice as much, then tell me I need new wipers, tyres, shocks etc. Usually the specialists use non OEM spec filters and non BMW approved oil. I paid $84 (AUD) for the air filter, $65 for the fuel filter and $27.50 for the oil filter from Ebay and $50 for the Castrol Edge oil. Peace of mind knowing they are the right parts when changing oil

    Hello, have you had problems with the timing chain?
    I’ve been hearing all these stories about how it can break and you have to replace the engine..
    Can you hear it when it’s gonna break?
    And is there anything to prevent it from breaking?
    Thank you!

      What milage does yours have? Because the n47 is from 2009 which they also use in 5series, 1series, 3series, but the chains seem to stretch out at around 100-150.000kms.. Really want to buy an economy engine 2.0d but dont want pay 3000 euros for a new chain....
