It was Garena that ruined League of Legends in SEA region. - absurd monetization - poor servers - community's isolation from other regions Mobile Legends was SEA's best alternative to League of Legends when it launched on mobile. Riot Games failed to capitalize on SEA region's potential, even refusing to believe (early on) that League of Legends can't be replicated on mobile devices.
@@eidokun awful was an understatement really. Looking back at it there were a lot of missed opportunities for Riot. like TFT Mobile getting crossplay and client sync on release, possible cross server games like what they have now in Valorant could've developed over the years but instead we're still playing within our own servers in league, that in turn increases level of competition for struggling SEA countries and possibly increase the overall skill of the region. player retention would've been higher considering how bad Garena's client was, etc. SEA was far too cut off from the community because of Garena and not in a good way like China
League is huge back in Garena days. Garena made buying skins and other stuff worth as hell in SEA economy. If they just copied Valorant and made nearby regions into one server, it would be more competitive and alive than today. Sadly no nearby region merge + Garena made LoL die in SEA.
There was no professional league here in the Philippines despite the popularity back then. It would have been different if league of legends had a professional league in the Philippines back then.
afaik we have one, it's a league fighting for a spot for the SEA playoffs that would go to worlds. iirc teams like WG, TNC, ME, Mineski were some of the teams who were active at that time.
It used to be popular here in the Philippines in the early years of LoL. I went to a lot of internet cafes and most people played it. I'm not sure why the popularity died down suddenly. I stopped playing because I got busy irl and no time to get updated. It's harder to follow the new champions and new itemization if you don't play often 😅. Even if I'm not playing anymore, I still watch the tournaments from different countries and still having fun with it instead of playing it. Although I couldn't understand some new mechanics 😅
in thailand 4 month ago we just got TH open tournament after long time no tournament and next month we are going to have world 2024 thailand viewing party at bangkok maybe this gonna help league of legends more popular in thailand
Garena is so shitty. Even before gacha, they are so stingy on RP. I bought some RP on launch day to help LoL out. Then the next week, they do launching day sale that gave extra RP. I asked if I can get extra RP on the one I bought at launch and they never budge their decision not to give RP. It left a massive sour taste and I will never gave Garena another money.
Becoz back then dota1 is big in SEA, dota1 culture is similar to pc master race, prideful with difficulty.. then dota2 came out but dota1 vets were adulting already, mobile legends come bcoz its portability , it become like "mini dota" .. dota term is a household term in SEA.
easily the problem is the region locked matchmaking in league like how come there isn't a hk server or Singapore server where all sea players and play rather than the region lock bullshit that exists right now
A simple call to game developers: create games that cater to the people of the Philippines and Indonesia, and the game will be a hit! HON dev you have chance.
Singapore's competetiveness died after merging with indonesia, malaysia, and other players from thailand india etc started playing on the singapore servers. Imagine if the same were to happen to korea or japan. The competetive drive of the game will drop with way too many casuals in ranked games. IF singapore falls then the rest of the regions competetiveness falls with it. It is the hub gaming country that everyone plays in. Therefore Countries like aiwan and vietnam have their own regions and are doing decent.
As a long time LoL player which get in touch Dota more earlier than LoL, nah... the store that separate into 3 places is what repelled me from mastering Dota lol. LoL recent year even have better recommendation for newbie. Dota 2 as far as I know until now still doesn't have 1 which very confusing for us who try to understand the game lol

not to mention its other shady scandals like the philippine garena server crypto mining incident
If Riot took back distribution from Garena at least during 2014/15 onwards the game would've prospered more.
Garena was awful

Garena was ruined LoL after a decade, region lock is a problem and need VPN for play
we don't have that thing no more now, don't we?
Reasons
Garena
Lack of access to PCs for most of the people
Garena

We got DOTA 2 here in the Philippines.
afaik we have one, it's a league fighting for a spot for the SEA playoffs that would go to worlds. iirc teams like WG, TNC, ME, Mineski were some of the teams who were active at that time.
Pre-Covid, the Dota scene here was thriving more even of technically more players played League.

Garena also restricted the competetive scene.

back then i rather played on NA server than having to go through garena

and yet people was so pushy that those mobile games are better like bro i cant
Garena ruined it
The answer is simply, garena stupidity😅
Garena
why would we play LOL when dota 2 was the better experience?
