I am extremely impressed that you brought up the values which appear to be dropping like a rock in the used market. This is actually why I’m interested in one. A lariat used in the $40,000 range. Sounds pretty good to me! Much respect for your honesty.
After fed tax credit ($7,500, assuming tax liability) and state rebates ($7,500 in MA) you can save $15k. You can find some pretty good deals below MSRP, especially on 2023 models or even 2022. Ford had a $7,500 Ford cash incentive recently. That's $22,500 off a Lariat! They stopped the promotion early though. It was supposed to go to January 2nd, 2024. I think after the Cybertruck specs and pricing came out, more people picked the Lightning. Hopefully the dealership mark ups are over. Going over MSRP and having high interest rates killed a lot of business. Inflation is bad, but greed will ruin dealerships long term. Their bullshit needs to end
As an EV owner, i think they are great IF you can charge at home and dont need to go on long road trips. If that isn't your situation, they are not for you. I also have an ice car if i want to go on road trips. EVs are NOT a good choice for everyone as a primary vehicle.
Long road trips depends on where you are, and what EV you have. Having an EV and an ICE vehicle, we choose the EV every time. Granted, I have an EV that charges fast, and I have no issues with 700+ mile trips in a day. This is also on the east coast where there are more chargers than in the middle of the US. I would love to have a Lightning, but probably a gen 2 when they come out. The main reason being the charging speeds. Driving my EV around 40,000 miles in a year, charging speeds are quite important. I do completely agree with the lack of infrastructure. In time, it will get better.
@@mikeflanary642 We need a national plan and strategy with citizen input and buy-in. Of course that assumes a competent and honest government which we no longer have.
I think the idea that “political plays a part in it is a pretty weak one. Giving it up is also listening to one side of the aisle and what they are telling you what to do. Unless ur afraid of what others are thinking about you , but if it fits your lifestyle and works for you, who cares. The issue is the national infrastructure is not there for EV’s hopefully in the next 5-10 yrs we can reinforce this and with better and faster charging tech people will be more inclined to get it
Agreed. If someone starts yapping how they are bad for the environment the. I answer: “Are you a tree hugger”. That really gets them, and then I tell them “I didn’t get it for the environment, I got it because it goes 0-60 in 3.8.
The political argument is pretty significant! Banning all ice engines by 2030/35 really? Why…? Oh that right the political climate activists…Gore,Obama,Kerry,Biden,Klaus Schwab…. Yes IT’s very political.
Wasn't it like how he explained even before he bought that truck, and now all of a sudden it's an issue? Here's my guess, the real reason is because he lives in a southern state, Alabama. So he's probably getting threats because he's got an EV and not just that, but other people on the road are probably getting really aggressive with their driving towards him, and since he's got a family, he's perhaps thinking, nope.
@@surgemaestro7355 LOL, nobody in real life sees the Lightning and knows it is electric. Those few that do know are EV nerds and will give you a big thumbs up.
That redisdual argument makes no sense. If you paid $67K for the truck and got a 7K credit it is the same both in reality and in resale as if you paid the post tax credit price of $60K. Sure if you are considering the residual on the pre-rebate price then sure but you didnt pay the pre rebate price
i think what he is saying is that the dealer nows of the government rebate & will take the rebate into consideration if you trade that vehicle in on another vehicle
I am baffled at your suggestion you cannot DC fast charge at or near the beach in Alabama. A quick look at PlugShare show DC chargers available in Mobile, Spanish Fort, Daphne, Fairhope, Foley, and Saraland. Not to mention Pensacola, FWB, and Santa Rosa, FL. Also, there are several Level 2 chargers you can use as your truck sits parked while you're enjoying the Gulf. You never even mentioned Level 2 charging options. Ford opening NACS in a matter of month more than doubles the various options. Your reasons are clearly biased as you are toting the dealership's water pale in their resistance and downright refusal to transition to EVs, as they continue to make money hand over fist in servicing 19th century technology.
Thank you for your comment. I am interested in buying this truck and needed to know about charging options. I am glad to hear it can use other options. Maybe they are just slower …. I think that guy is just a bozo! He wants to lift it and go off-roading or something! 😂
@@shannell580the Lightning now has access to the Tesla network so charging should be the least of your concerns. However, if you can’t charge at home don’t buy an EV
3:15 So just to be clear…. You don’t like being told what to do, but got bullied, assuming by right wingers, out of your own vehicle which you admit you loved 😂. For everyone reading this, if you don’t want “controversial” things in your life, make no mistake you DEFINITELY like being told what to do. Nobody could bully me out of my EV. If you don’t like, pound sand.
My guess was similar. He was probably getting threats by right wingers who were probably driving aggressively towards him on the road, and since he's got a family, he thought to get rid of it. He does live in a southern state after all, Alabama.
@@surgemaestro7355 Its unfortunate to hear that kind of thing might happen. Up here in new england the EV'S are everywhere. If you can charge them it just makes alot of sense
I have a 2022 F150 5.0. I love it. Drive from Pennsylvania to South Dakota this fall. Round trip I got 23.8 mph. I was very happy with that. And the last part of the trip I drove from Lincoln Nebraska to Eastern Pennsylvania non stop and only hadvto stop once after I left Nebraska. Love my 36gallon tank. I just cannot bring myself to buy a EV of any type.
If you're getting 23.8 MPG, I am VERY impressed! I drive a 2014 Escape AWD with the 2.0 turbo. Granted, it's quite punchy for a 4 and I drive mainly city traffic however I usually only get between 19-20 mpgs. Before that, I had a 2014 Lincoln MKZ FWD with the same 2.0 turbo and just barely got better mileage than my Escape. The fact that a much heavier and more bulky F150 with the 5.0 can get almost 24 MPG even in highway driving is awesome! I hope you're enjoying your F150. I wouldn't mind one, myself.
once the Tesla superchargers are open to Ford owners, you’d be able to charge both in Greenville as well as in mobile on your beach trip, which would make it way easier.
Ive had my Lightning since August of 2022. Its the best vehicle ive ever owned. Dont get me wrong its not the right choice for everyone but in my case its great. Im saving over $400 per month on fuel costs not to mention virtually no maintenance costs. Im a licenced tech and run my own repair shop. I dont miss all the potential ICE related repairs either. Great channel BTW.
Great video. I am a Lightning owner and I have had it for about 15 months. It is not an around town truck and covers a large area. You are correct the charging network sucks but it is improving. I was driving a 2017 F350 crew cab with a 6.2l gas prior and the fuel savings alone has made the entire payment on the Lightning. I have 20+ Ford trucks in my fleet and I love the lightning the best. The good news is I should be able to add some lightly used lightnings at a great price to my group. I have also leveled and add bigger tires to the truck. Keep up the good work we like following up here in Canada.
I like your channel. You got rid of your Lightning because charging infrastructure isn’t there, battery tech is changing, resale value is tanking, it’s a political hot potato, and it’s hard to customize. Otherwise, it’s a great vehicle. Got it.
Sure are Ford has had problems with there vehicles caching on fire for as long as I can remember the EV is no different. Buy a Ford and you can stay warm in the winter and roast some marshmallows at the same time.
This video is also very disingenuous because at his income level he didn't qualify for the tax incentive. Also, no new car dealer keeps a vehicle long enough to care about resale value. He can essentially drive a different car every week if he wanted.
@@jkfaulkner sure. Although my point is really the reasons for a car dealer to get rid of a car is almost never going to be the same as an individual. Most new car dealers can drive the least reliable cars because they have mechanics on the payroll to cheaply fix their vehicles and they can choose from 50 other cars to drive while they wait.
last I heard, Ford plans to cut Lightning production in half. I don't think they'd do that if sales were going up. Everyone seems to be taking a hard look at where they are with EV's.
You are absolutely right 9:40 about cost to operate, and when you add home solar to your EV experience, driving an EV cost around $0.50/gal in equivalent energy cost. Even with the residual value hit, hard to beat 1970s gas prices in 2023.
@@anthonygasparini1734 I did. My all-in cost (including solar, 95% L2 charging, 250 wh/mile lifetime average) is less than $0.50/gal. Your use case and costs may differ.
It's Lithium IRON Phosphate. I have and recommend this type of battery for all home solar systems. There might be some performance loss, but the distance should increase even more. The BIG thing, is the life of the battery. You can keep the car for 15 years without ever changing the battery, depending of course on how you use it. Keep it above 25% for a longer life. If you go below that once in a great while, no big deal.
My cousin bought a new Lightning..he pulls a trailer and does sheetrock..running the heater and towing and running around will kill your range...he has had to be towed back 3-4 times....he grabbed a 2014 Used F150 gas(21,000 miles) and is trying to sell his Lightning, but he's upside down in it...
He definitely bought the wrong technology for the kind of work he does. Towing and having to use resistance heating is a killer for any battery currently on the market. Charging infrastructure has a long way to go and if Ford had gotten on it like Tesla has it might not be the big issue that it is right now. That being said the lightning still charges too slowly, as compared to what the cyber truck is capable of. Ford got caught behind the curve on this one.
I am not sure what beach you are going to but there are plenty of Level 3 DC fast chargers in southern Alabama. Now the CCS1 chargers that your Lightning has to use rarely work but there are plenty of NACS chargers there and those always work. Once Ford produces the NACS adapter there will be plenty of chargers for everyone. Right now there are plenty of chargers for Tesla vehicles.
Ford raised the price of the vehicle by almost the same amount of the tax credit as soon as it went into effect. In the end, Ford got the tax credit and the dealership got the selling point. There is no need to gaslight us. Besides, it is morally wrong to take money from one person to give to another for a personal choice!
Glad I saw this. Wanted to get one eventually but I think I’ll stay with my powerboost 7.2kw for a long time. Seems to be the best of both worlds. Even when I do get a lightning I’ll probably Still keep my powerboost just for sheer love of the generator gasoline combo and usage.
More interested to hear they are putting in heat pumps for 2024. Should help range in winter, which I hear is quite bad now if you want to keep the cabin warm with the current resistive heat
Yup, I am holding out for Ford to fully integrate to Tesla's superchargers and for them to use heat pumps. And of course, I want a Pro and they are only becoming available recently.
Heat pumps next year should help range...will be interesting too see by how much, hopefully at least 25-30 miles. The update "Project T3" won't be out until 2025 at earliest
Feel sorry for electric car drivers and future owners. They will simply have to learn the hard way .. as I did. These things are a huge hassle, all those lost hours sitting in those charging stations, huge anxiety, plus a outrageous expense in the long run. Good luck trying to sell a used Electric car with wore out battery modules. You'll find out nobody wants to pay the ridiculous price of batteries ... Batteries are very ... very expensive to replace ( thousands and thousands of dollars) ... and make no mistake, you will be replacing them. These batteries are highly toxic to our environment and a constant concern for fire, also a high potential for disaster to our surroundings. These new specialized automotive grade batteries ... are not green clean energy by any means... Don't fool yourself and certain don't listen to a manufacturer or salesperson, ... they will say anything, do anything to make a sale . I wish I knew all this before I bought my car . For some of you younger people, you probably already made the mistake, but that's how you learn in life !
I just bought an $80,000 lightning lariat this past Thanksgiving for $56,000 with 4300 miles on it. We totally love it as a daily driver and I still have my bronco for trips. The only thing I would change is, get the extended range battery instead of the standard range, It still works very well for us.👍🏾👍🏾
it's a battery on wheels. cheaper than the equivalent amount of Powerwalls. The lack of height adjustment on the pro driver's seat is criminal. How we shorties supposed to see over the hood?!
Mr Mitchell, you are absolutely right, for me in particular, I say this with all the right I have because it already happened to me that I rented an EV vehicle for 2 weeks and the technology is lacking, more public chargers are needed and I live in a big city ( Houston) the best move for a new vehicle I think is to buy a hybrid vehicle. At this moment I have a hybrid Ford Maverick and I won't change it for anything. It has the same starting as an electric car and the gas savings are excellent and the best thing about The whole thing is that I can get to a gas station and only fill the tank in 10 minutes or less and in an EV it takes more than an hour for it to charge 80% and I have not mentioned until they can vacate the charging station, which can be 2 hours or more
Very good points. In my opinion, two items sabotaged the lightning; Ford dealers not becoming charge locations and Ford not fully considering the scope of the ecosystem needed. I think Farley wanted to copy Tesla, but the Ford company swamp and dealerships did not comply.
Dealerships marking up the price $10k, $20k or more. Then they sit on the lot and the narrative turns to "THEY AREN'T SELLING!" because they want $90k. High interest rates aren't helping either. Even if people want the truck, will a lender approve them for financing?
Couple of thoughts as a Lightning owner. I love my Lightning. By far the best truck I've ever owned FOR MY NEEDS. I don't tow often and i don't frequently take cross-country road trips. I have a garage and I'm able to charge at home. If you tow a ton, like to travel by car or can't charge at home - this probably isn't the vehicle for you. I'm so sick of the politics. I bought the truck because I love it. It's fast AF, smooth, quiet inside and I'm saving $275/mo on average for fuel. The residual value excuse(that's not a term I've ever heard outside of leasing) is a stretch. Residual Value is typically a calculation of the value of a car at the end of a lease and is a simple multipication of MSRP. For example - if the residual value of your $80k truck is 50% - it will be worth $40k at the end of the lease. Selling your truck because the bottom line price (MSRP - rebate and tax incentive) is now less and driving down your resale value seems goofy to me. That's like saying "this truck was $80k, now it's $65k so now I'm gonna sell it". I don't think most economists would recommend buying high and selling low.... but I'm just a dumb former car (new Chevy) salesman. I've also been known to make stuff up to get a new truck - so I'm not judging.
Would have been nice if ford sold some very basic RWD single cabs to the public; it'd probably get great range and be a fun truck around town and back and forth to the suburbs. The issue is that ford got greedy along with dealerships. It's the same issue hitting housing right now. Why would ford sell a $45 k truck where people could actually get the tax incentive when they could sell an $85 k truck ( phased out of the tax incentive). If ford had one right by the customers and stopped trying to gouge people then this thing would have taken off. Instead ford and the dealers opted for these crazy high priced vehicles and surprise.... no one could justify the cost give. The poor range, loss of the tax incentive, and the lack of charger support. This is how GM killed the EV in the 90s; a pure lack of will to do the right thing and a lack of imagination. You can make money off of luxury; you can also make money off of volume. The F150 is testament to that, and yet Fords greed and the dealers killed the lightning. Bravo!!!
I'm going to be harsh, but I hope, fair. I'm in a downstream business and I've lost a lot of money on electric vehicles. In fact, I'm not even really going to attack TCcustoms here, because if I had to guess (who really knows anyone's motivations?) Mitchell's daily driver is important to this businesses bottom line and they needed to respond. Just so we can get my biases out of the way I'll explain as briefly as possible. Anyone who is in the car business and holds cars in a fleet for any period of time is 100% reliant on residual prices. We're not gambling. Banks go through tremendous lengths, paying vendors tons of cash to understand what a car is going to be worth in 3 years, for instance, because leases are coming back, right? Volatility destroyed me. Volatility hurt a lot of people on EVs. I want everyone to pay close attention here. He, liked, the, truck. Did exactly what he wanted. Worked for him. There were no "gotcha" things. Joe Biden didn't knock his door down and make him sign a contract that he has to drive an EV forever. He loses me in his "politics" section. Because he's playing to his customer base, I get it, but, it's a problem the slant he presents. There's no EV mandate. No one was going to be forced to buy an EV. No one is "forcing EVs down our throats" and this is all political, but also factually inaccurate. For those of us "in the business" we see legislation passed over the past 4 years and for awhile it was looking pretty weird. $12,500, union labor tie ins, just, very clearly one-side's priorities. What actually got passed because of moderates in both parties was a continuation of the $7,500, and the reasons were to combat Chinese manufacturers who are being augmented by the Chinese government to get a monopoly. National defense. That's what this is about, everyone. If we have to go to war in China we don't want the world's lithium production to be dependent on bottle necks in China. That's the nuanced reality of EV INCENTIVES (not MANDATES) passed over the last 4-years. It's not hyperpartisan anything even though this has become hyperpartisan. The upshot as billionaires buy .coms, ruin their image while presidential candidates spread convenient messages because of pre-existing feelings is people get hurt. Vendors, suppliers, go bankrupt. People lose jobs. For no, good, reason. Volatility, why? This drop in EV demand is purely an American problem. If we don't put these metaphorical guns down, things may get less metaphorical. We need to stop tearing each other down and work together. If this was a good truck, it was a good truck. Whatever, despite all the money I lost on EVs, as a truck guy and someone who knows EVs, I got a STEAL on a Lightning for myself. Amazing truck. Guys, better than the Powerboost by a long shot and the Powerboost is the best engine to ever go in an F150. So I'm sorry I didn't give anyone ammunition to burn either Biden or Trump at the stake. All I have is a normal persons story about how political BS hurts in real life. It hurts, trust me. For no reason.
Even though it took the cyber truck 4 years it is the nail in the coffin for the ford f150 lightning when it comes to pricing reliability and value for money and I dont even like tesla's
The Cybertruck look like a toy? How often was it said that Teslas would never succeed, and yet the Tesla Model Y is the top selling, number one selling, most desired car in the entire world?
The answer to the question is that you couldn't monetize your channel enough around it. I don't even have to watch this video to "know" the "reasons". I've had my Lightning longer than you and none of that is a concern to me.
Looks like you have an Alabama problem and hopefully, your state will be favorable to EVs, albeit politics. We are glad to own 2 EVs and will never go back to gas. Thanks for your honesty.
I’ll buy a used one soon. Prices are dropping like a rock in our area. Platinums are hitting $59,000-66,000 < 5000 miles. Lariats are hitting $6-$10k less than platinum Interesting, XLT’s are holding value better than luxury versions.
I guess it wasnt "controversial" when you bought it, but now it is. Lol. There is no controversy, either drive a ev or dont. I don't let other people's feelings decide what I want in my personal life. I have a Tesla and a gas F-150. Guess I'm covered on both sides right now, until I buy the Silverado EV or the ram ev. 🤣🤣
I really appreciate your honesty. I own an F250 to tow my RV and don’t plan on getting rid of it anytime soon but I also own a Tesla Model 3 which I love. I’m a Trump supporting Tesla driver that does get some crap from conservatives but I’m keeping it and my awesome diesel truck no matter what anyone says. Freedom is very important.
Unless you are pumping your own oil, you aren't free. Range is an issue with the first gen but will probably be better in the future. Get a solar set up and you're living on sunshine! Get out of the oil and power racket. If pays for itself in 5 years. As for politics, those people need a hobby. Perhaps golf (you can fit 2 golf bags in the frunk...)
I literally bought my lightning Saturday. Drove it straight to pigeon forge the next day. Zero issues. I've taken my Mach e from SC to tupelo MS (9 hours) a few times. No real issues.
1) The rebates and tax credits reduced the original price you paid for the truck, they didn’t add to the depreciation you realized when you sold it. The fact that its residual value is lowered by the same amount is to be expected; depreciation expense begins from the price paid net of tax credits and rebates and discounts, and is no worse than new ICE trucks. 2) It’s Lithium IRON Phosphate, not “Ion”- aka LFP (where F is short for Fe, the chemical symbol of iron). The upcoming LFP packs are for Standard Range trucks, not Extended Range. Yes, their lifetime should be longer and they can be routinely charged to 100% without damage, but the biggest plus is that they don’t start fires if punctured. Yet, it’s really hard to make a jumbo LFP battery pack (gets too heavy), so it’s going to be a 200mi range, not 300mi, truck. I think Ford’s main motivation for going LFP, however, is cost reduction.
My current F150 is my long distance traveling rig for a couple of reasons. First, it's the most comfortable vehicle I own. Secondly, about half the time I am towing my small camper. For this, the new ICE F150s with the larger fuel tanks are the clear winner.
Just bought an F-150 Lightning after 6 years with a Tesla Model 3. The Tesla proved that I can drive anywhere in an EV. We took many road trips of 2,000 miles+ thanks to Tesla’s Supercharger network. Now that Ford EVs can use that same network, I expect that ease of travel to continue.
If you want an EV in America, buy a Tesla. They're great for and town or road tripping. Their charger network is great. No other brand available in America has it together with EVs. With any other newish product, people would be brand aware...which work, which don't. He says that there are no fast chargers in southern Alabama, but there are several, mostly Tesla's, from a glance at the map.
Your right for the most part. I don't think anyone but the industry is forcing EV's on people in the market. The industry should be trying to increase fuel economy by using hybrid drive trains. Where is the F150 plug in hybrid? I am interested in the Ranger Hybrid. Look at the Maverick, selling like hot cakes.
Bucee's at the start of beach express in Robertsdale has Tesla Super chargers now. a bunch of the hotels in Gulf Shores and orange beach I think have EV chargers now too but yeah there is a serious lack of EV charging in this area mostly because people are so hostile towards EV here.
Gas stations are smart to add chargers as the more time the customers are on premises the greater chance they'll walk around and buy something from inside their stores which is where they make their money, not at the pumps. Whenever I hit a Wawa Supercharger I usually walk in, use the rest room, then grab a bite and a drink and consume the food in my car. Since I have to use the bathroom and I get hungry regardless of whether it's an ICEV or EV it's really not that much of an inconvenience to have to wait a little extra for my car to charge (my stops are usually 15-20 minutes). I only take probably four road trips a year that require me to hit a Supercharger, the rest of the year I've got plenty of range from recharging at home, so for me it makes a lot of sense to use an EV as I rarely have to bother having to go to a station to recharge unlike *all* gas powered vehicles. If people factored in the amount of time it takes out of their daily commute each week to deviate to a gas station over the course of the year vs. plugging in within two seconds at home they'd see that you end up spending less time if you had an EV. People only focus on the time it takes at the gas pump vs. charger and don't factor in the time it takes each week for them to refuel their daily driver.
Now that Ford/Tesla made their charging deal, it will significantly increase their charging locations. To me the issue of the long charging times is a hindrance. No one wants to spend 45-60 minutes charging (and that is when the charging stations are working.)
I agree with @PhillipBailey. I've had my 2023 F150 Lightening for 6 months. Best truck I've owned. The politics arguement is a non-arguement. People are curious and even those who have bashed the EV truck, I've managed to convince a few to go get one, not by arguing but by just taking them for a ride and letting curiosity lead the way. EVs do have a way to go, but they are the future and the market, not politics is driving that. Same arguements we heard going from horses and buggies to automobiles. Next time you're out driving, count the number of gas stations you see. In the early 1900s, there weren't gas stations on every corner. Every person has an electric "gas station" at home and soon charging stations will be everywhere. Youll be able to charge and go get something to eat. Every gas station has a mart of some kind attached. Its only a matter of time before the market sees money in the model with charging stations. ICE is heading the way of the so called "burning dinosaurs" they use (its plants, from the storage of sunlight, but thats complicated. Dinosaurs died out, very few travel with horses and buggies anymore, and gas burning vehicles will go that way too. Love my Lightening, they will only get better.
@@sprint2648 Total gasser hot air. I could sell it tomorrow, so you're wrong number 1. I could keep it and it will probably do fine (you don't know!), so you're wrong number 2. You will probably have to replace a motor in your vehicle at half the mileage, so you're wrong number 3. Same for tranny, so that's 4. You be done now K?
Ford just sent out a letter saying the dealers can send their chargers back for refund as long as they are un opened😮😮 So much for those 1500 dealer chargers
If the Ford dealers are smart (and they have the space to do it) they should set up every charger that they can get their hands on. For one, it's goodwill for their customers and gives someone thinking of buying an EV or plug-in hybrid a place that they know that they can charge plus, charging takes a while. They'll be spending time at the dealership. I don't know about others but when I have time to kill in service at the Ford dealer, I look around the lot, maybe look at the goodies in the service department, that time could be a sales opportunity.
@@brian5oNo, most dealers seem to be smarter, in a bad way. ICE and hybrids break down a lot, which is where they make lots of $$$. They probly don't want EV owners telling their angry ICE owners how cheap and easy EVs are.
2.7 tt the way to go, if I have the money, I’ll go to get my new 23 xlt with the nice iconic silver color to you guys customize to me. 2.7 great mileage and smooth to drive. Peace
I’m not interested in a EV truck at all. I don’t know enough about them, but does weight towed downgrade the EV? Tax credits are based on income tho. You may not qualify. I personally think truck owners use their truck. Maybe not every week but you don’t buy a truck for mpg’s, most use it for something in their life
The towing definitely reduces the range significantly. And sure you might use your truck for truck things but there's a significant # of ppl who never haul anything or use the bed. Think of all the ppl with the hard tonnaue covers driving around just using it as a glorified SUV. Not bashing them, if they want a pickup truck, then that's fine ... the lightning would actually be a good fit for those ppl.
Long road trips are fine in an EV if you’re also a fan of the journey not just the destination. What you said about the charging infrastructure is true, it needs to get better and over time I’m sure it will but it’s not here now unless you have a Tesla. We rode horses for 1000s of years and then in the span of a few decades, we transitioned to vehicles. Are we going to completely transition to electric vehicles? It’s hard to say, but for arguments sake, let’s say it’s true. After the automobile came out about 20 years later, you probably couldn’t even give away a horse at least not in an urban area. If you apply that same timeframe now to electric vehicles and gas powered vehicles in about 20 or 30 years, you might be seeing the same thing as the infrastructure gets better. I don’t know if it will happen entirely the same way as before because this is obviously different. It’s just something to think about.
He didn't change my mind about selling my 22 Lariat ER. I love mine and other than putting in a locking steel gun box under the rear seat and a rolling Tonneau cover I will not be doing other mods. I live in the Pacific Northwest and we have lots of chargers everywhere. In the 18 months I have owned my Lightning EA has gotten much better up here and just about every place I go has a charger. I don't even have my Tesla adapter yet and I don't get range anxiety. I tow my 3,500 lb boat about 250 miles across a mountain pass and get 210 miles of range and only charge once each way and lots of destination chargers where I am going. Secondly, it's hard to drive a standard F150 without the independent rear suspension, without the instant massive torque once you've been spoiled. Lastly, 98% of my charging is with the FCSP at either one of my two homes and is perfect for my 85 mile commute to work from either residence. Most of my friends drive EV's and they just charge at my place for free when they come to dinner or stay late at the beach and have a full charge for heading home. Nope, not selling. But I will see what Ford comes up with for the next generation; it may be tempting... BTW, 34,000 miles so far nearly trouble free. Had a torn CV boot left rear, replaced under warranty and was in and out in less than 3 hours with new boot and rear half shaft. Other than that completely trouble free
The only EV company that has a real charging network is Tesla. If you want an EV and you need to go any distance, Tesla is your only option at the moment. Some might hate me for saying this; But while you’re hating can you please explain who has a more extensive supercharging network? Hold my beer! FYI: From prototype to production vehicle in 4 years is really fast. Most car companies take closer to 5-10 years. And keep in mind, in the case of the CyberTruck everything was reinvented… from the actual design, engineering to the entire production line. They even built an entirely new production facility and produce their own batteries. To do all that in only 4 years is a staggering achievement. Respect!
For the key thing is if you are just driving around town, the EV is fine. But for me my F150 V8 is for more than that since I use my truck to travel. I don’t tow a lot, but when I do I know my truck can handle the job. The charging issues and the cost 💲 makes it a no go for me.
I bought a Lightning from TC last year and love it! I didn't buy it for any political, environmental or social statement. It's my money and my life and I really don't give a damn what people think, good or bad. As for the truck, it is the perfect around-town vehicle plus it'll fly! No, it's not a vehicle you wanna take on cross-country trips. I kept my old King Ranch gasburner for long trips. Both vehicles serve a purpose. Both have good and bad points. There's no perfect vehicle and everything has its pros and cons. I dunno why everyone thinks they have to be in one camp or another. Buy what you want to.
I think the word dump is rather strong. Also where can I get that awesome polo you are wearing? Can that get me the super duty? Regardless I'm getting something.
💯 on we need more charging locations... I got screw by FORD. I my standard range for the price of the extended range when they increase the price😢. But 99% I charge at home. I can never got to a gasoline engine because I had all the cost and up keep I had......
In Canada there’s no tax credits or rebates on anything over 70k base msrp. In BC To help protect the value of used EV’s you don’t pay 7% PST on any used EV. And there’s certainly no issues with depreciation like you have mentioned as even used Lightnings are going for top dollar - if you can even find one.
by the way, Lease a new one, then the residual value doesn't matter and the bank takes all the risk. ex, lets say its worth $10,000 less than you owe, You can drop it off and walk away. I know some of you are thinking, what about the extra miles. well if you go over by 10,000 miles, its .25 per miles, pay the $2500 and still drop it off. If it holds it's value than you win anyway. I just leased mine. love it. and I can use the tesla chargers so no problems here.
Man I have been thinking about getting a lightning and the one thing that I literally asked myself yesterday was can these things be customized any EV for that matter. But specifically a lightning thanks for answering that for me
Everyone comes out saying they're going to come out with their Tesla killer. I'll believe it when I see it. It's STUNNING to me how many of these manufacturers, who've had years to see what Tesla has done so that they could build something better still make boneheaded mistakes. For example, the F-150 Lightning only charges at 150kW. Are you joking? My Tesla Model Y Long Range charges as 250kW! So this shouldn't be an issue for the average driver who is only doing 40 miles per day. But for those 500 mile road trips, the slower charging speed will add significant time to your traveling. There's no way it should have been shipped without at least 250 kW charging, preferably 350 kW. Simply put, Tesla is at least 5 years ahead of everyone else from a tech standpoint. Specifically for the Cybertruck, that means: * steer by wiring - this causes a number of advantages. Reduced weight because of no steering column, you can tweet how many turns it takes to get a corresponding turn of the physical wheels * 48V architecture - this means smaller, lighter wires to power all components of the car, which again reduces weight and cost * an essentially bulletproof body - I'm not worried about anyone shooting at me, but it should mean the dings you normally get from people hitting you car with their car door, the pebbles hitting your car as you drive down the highway, all of that will cause no damage to the car. * the 800V architecture - not only means faster charging speeds, when chargers get even faster, that'll mean even faster charging times I could list a lot more things, but there's a reason why Ford is switching to Tesla's charging standard. It's great to say you're going to come out with an F-150 that makes the Cybertruck look like a toy. Delivering it is another matter.
I'm am actually in the market for one and was interested in what the nay sayers say.... great video!!! and still want it... I have an EV already and 100% believe if you need to charge it somewhere besides home you should not buy one.
The lack of chargers is exactly why I didn't get an F150 Lightning. I went on a trip to the Keys and found the chargers available were simply not enough and not as convenient as needed. I'm not dropping over $60k for a vehicle that will inconvenience me. So I ended up buying an ICE vehicle. We're just not there yet with a proper charging infrastructure. If it's your in town or short trip only vehicle it's all good but if you drive to rural areas often I'd say steer clear.
You gave a lot of good reasons why I wouldn’t buy one. The Lightning is good for certain uses around town but not so much for traveling. I totally agree about the politics of the Democrats pushing electric vehicles on everyone and not wanting to be a part of that push. Let people decide on what they need and can afford.
Oh stop ❄️ They are pushing by EVERY charges so that all these people switching to electric have someplace to charge. You can keep your ICE as long as you want 😘
I agree with what Mitchell said to, especially about not being forced into EVs and just a heads-up, I am a Democrat myself. Much like Republicans, Independents and the like, no one in a particular party is exactly alike. BTW, the manufacturers at this point are pushing awfully hard towards EVs and it seems to be biting them now. I am VERY happy about that. It couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of folks.
Hey that's all backwards. I'm independent and why didn't we get EVs long before Tesla? Cause the people making a whole lot of money on FF like it that way. And the beat goes on with all that ripoff right winger news.
Good video, I agree with a lot of what you say. I live in Canada, and range anxiety is a big deal when it gets cold in winter. I test drove one, lots of get up and go, an fun truck I am sure... but just not the work horse I still need once in a while. We'll see what the next gen is like. :)
Once f150 gets into the tesla supercharger network it’ll so great for potential ev owners. I would jump into the lariat lightning but lack of SC network is the main concern.
$40K for a Lariat is a steal. I might even step out of my Pro for that!
As an EV owner, i think they are great IF you can charge at home and dont need to go on long road trips. If that isn't your situation, they are not for you. I also have an ice car if i want to go on road trips. EVs are NOT a good choice for everyone as a primary vehicle.
Well said!
Absolutely true. I've had 2 GM EVs over the past 6 years and that is what I did.
Need a charging network like Tesla has. Maybe when it opens in 2024.
Agreed, it's sad that politics causes people to act against their own best interests.
@@tombudetti5502 Exactly. There are Telsa Superchargers all over the state that Ford EV's can access.
Mpg, not mph because that would be disappointing 😃
@@Mr.Pennsylvanian.He’s just cruising slow!

Fake post.
@@scott4036Why is it fake. He own a company. 😂😂Most of the trucks are bought by companies.
The last reason again doesn't effect me, as i don't plan on ever modifying my lightning.
I like your channel. You got rid of your Lightning because charging infrastructure isn’t there, battery tech is changing, resale value is tanking, it’s a political hot potato, and it’s hard to customize. Otherwise, it’s a great vehicle. Got it.
There's as many positives over an ICE vehicle though.
@@phxees there may have been a business tax advantage to part with it as well.
Sold because the market is falling on all vehicles and especially EVs.
Facts
EV sales are actually going up.
last I heard, Ford plans to cut Lightning production in half. I don't think they'd do that if sales were going up. Everyone seems to be taking a hard look at where they are with EV's.
@@brianbertrand3347You’re nuts.
Tesla Model Y is the best selling car in the wold. Legacy auto simply can't make EVs, so they're giving up.
You are absolutely right 9:40 about cost to operate, and when you add home solar to your EV experience, driving an EV cost around $0.50/gal in equivalent energy cost. Even with the residual value hit, hard to beat 1970s gas prices in 2023.
Well, the mileage tax is coming soon, the roads are not free.
.50 cents per gallon? Factor in the cost of a solar system, $ 25k, fast charger $4,000. Its not .50 cents per gallon.
@@anthonygasparini1734 I did. My all-in cost (including solar, 95% L2 charging, 250 wh/mile lifetime average) is less than $0.50/gal. Your use case and costs may differ.
Home solar is a bigger scam than EVs. Home solar on my house they wanted $75K. LOLOL. So I can save money in 20 years after its paid off....LOL..
If you go below that once in a great while, no big deal.
and perhaps most important of all, LFP battery packs don’t start fires if punctured in a collision!
Political reasons? Really? I sure love my Ford Lightning but I guess I’ll just have to trade it in for a Cyber truck now.
Many Ford dealers don’t want to sell a vehicle they will never get a return on in their maintenace service bays. Think about it.
Facts
Charger aniexty: a rare but distinct form of range aniexty centered on the lack of suitable charger when you get there.
Should help range in winter, which I hear is quite bad now if you want to keep the cabin warm with the current resistive heat
problem is lvl 3 charging can be as expensive as gasoline so whats the point.
The only thing I would change is, get the extended range battery instead of the standard range, It still works very well for us.👍🏾👍🏾
Agreed. I am interested in EV's purely because of the power and torque of them.
it's a battery on wheels. cheaper than the equivalent amount of Powerwalls.
It has the same starting as an electric car and the gas savings are excellent and the best thing about The whole thing is that I can get to a gas station and only fill the tank in 10 minutes or less and in an EV it takes more than an hour for it to charge 80% and I have not mentioned until they can vacate the charging station, which can be 2 hours or more
I love my Mach E, yes range isn't the best but then again my longest commute would be 100 miles round trip..
I like the torque they have and have considered it, but holding off for now.
The power is insane!
That cyber truck is one ugly truck! Who wants to drive an ugly vehicle? No me!
Nail in the coffin?! Lightnings started selling faster once the cybertruck prices came out!! Haha
I have a model 3 and a raptor I love the raptor but model 3 is cheap to drive so it’s the go to vehicle.
Looks like you have an Alabama problem and hopefully, your state will be favorable to EVs, albeit politics. We are glad to own 2 EVs and will never go back to gas. Thanks for your honesty.

Where is your area? I am willing to fly over there to buy one. My area in South Texas has zero inventory!
You got it wrong, it's Lithium Iron Phosphate(LFP)
It will be great when Ford partners with Tesla on the chargers. That would be a big win for Ford.
Demand has been saturated and has fallen off a cliff.
Nonsense. Most legacy brands have been gouging, so here comes BYD.
Lithium Iron Phosphate is not an upgrade to the battery. It has a lower energy density and is heavier.
I was thinking the exact same things as I listened to him... Plus Ford needs to figure out the software
I am glad that someone else also called on this rebate-depreciation BS. I thought I was the only one to notice.
7:40 Lithium IRON Phosphate. LFP Li Fe P
My current F150 is my long distance traveling rig for a couple of reasons. First, it's the most comfortable vehicle I own. Secondly, about half the time I am towing my small camper. For this, the new ICE F150s with the larger fuel tanks are the clear winner.
He dumped it because he was done making videos for youtube. Tesla network opening soon, why not wait a few months.
This guy is great. I know he is a salesman but he really does a good job expressing facts and features.
If BEV is so wonderful, why do they need to be forced on us? Let consumers have choices. Many people can barely afford a basic, used, gasoline car.
😂😂😂😂 Stupid is as stupid does. Not to do something because you feel forced even though you want is a moronic approach to life.
The only thing I dislike about EVs is the political part. Certain people really hate change and it makes you a target to these people.
I got one guy at work that immediately gets cranky when someone mentions EV.
Should be a politician I just heard you put lipstick on a pig
Now that Ford/Tesla made their charging deal, it will significantly increase their charging locations. To me the issue of the long charging times is a hindrance. No one wants to spend 45-60 minutes charging (and that is when the charging stations are working.)
NACS should help significantly with that
I agree with @PhillipBailey.
I disagree. Wait until you have to buy a new battery
@@sprint2648I've got a 10 yr old EV with a small battery and it's still awesome. You're talking about what you don't know.
@@ejt3708 sooner or later you will need to put a battery in it and you will spend more than you ever saved on gas.
@@ejt3708 my motor and transmission are 1/4 of the cost of your battery. You offended?
How much would it cost to replace the battery?
Ford just sent out a letter saying the dealers can send their chargers back for refund as long as they are un opened😮😮
So much for those 1500 dealer chargers
Peace
So what do you drive now??
I got my NACS adapter so my charger anxiety is pretty much non existent now.
I have a lightning. Love it. Very cheap to operate. Not the right tool for everyone but for our lifestyle it's completely fine.
Not bashing them, if they want a pickup truck, then that's fine ... the lightning would actually be a good fit for those ppl.
lol I don’t like a car because it’s political…. It’s a fucking truck bud. If you think using an ev is political that’s on you.
Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) is the new battery chemistry @Town and Country TV
When car salesmen talk too much.
Ford need to get on the Tesla supercharger network yesterday
ICE will last 50 years or more. The EV is TOAST after 10 years.
The charge range is cut in half for the northern half of the country during winter so the charge cycles will be as well.
I think the word dump is rather strong. Also where can I get that awesome polo you are wearing? Can that get me the super duty? Regardless I'm getting something.
I love mine. Won't ever go back to ICE vehicles.
💯 on we need more charging locations... I got screw by FORD. I my standard range for the price of the extended range when they increase the price😢. But 99% I charge at home. I can never got to a gasoline engine because I had all the cost and up keep I had......
Smart to get out of the first generation before they lose any more value & wait for gen 2 or gen 3 plus the infrastructure should be improved.
We are at least 10-20 years out from EV being relevant.
Here kid, here's a nickel to rent a Tesla from Hertz for a week so you can learn something
Sounds like a bunch of Alabama problems.
You got tired of people asking for a jump-start. LOL
LOL, introduces NACS and then shows many other connectors and 0 NACS.
The real concern here is why you bought it in the first place. 😂😂😂 EVs were dead before they were even a thing. 😂😂😂
by the way, Lease a new one, then the residual value doesn't matter and the bank takes all the risk. ex, lets say its worth $10,000 less than you owe, You can drop it off and walk away.
But specifically a lightning thanks for answering that for me
If I buy a car, does that get me entries per dollar?
Specifically for the Cybertruck, that means:
* steer by wiring - this causes a number of advantages. Reduced weight because of no steering column, you can tweet how many turns it takes to get a corresponding turn of the physical wheels
* 48V architecture - this means smaller, lighter wires to power all components of the car, which again reduces weight and cost
* an essentially bulletproof body - I'm not worried about anyone shooting at me, but it should mean the dings you normally get from people hitting you car with their car door, the pebbles hitting your car as you drive down the highway, all of that will cause no damage to the car.
* the 800V architecture - not only means faster charging speeds, when chargers get even faster, that'll mean even faster charging times
I could list a lot more things, but there's a reason why Ford is switching to Tesla's charging standard.
No way I'm spending that amount of money on a vehicle that I can only drive locally. NO THANK YOU
I agree with what Mitchell said to, especially about not being forced into EVs and just a heads-up, I am a Democrat myself.
So you live in a crummy state. Cool?
This is why I say the solution to EV's is range extenders or Hybrids!
