Watches & Wonders 2024 is right around the corner, which means that Rolex will soon be unveiling its most exciting novelties for the year. Traditionally, the brand has been known for its conservatism and incremental changes. Rolex usually doesn’t take big swings. In past years, simply releasing a new dial color for the Submariner or a new size for the Explorer was enough to send hordes of enthusiasts to their nearest AD with hopes of getting put on a waiting list.
But that wasn’t the case in 2023. Rolex was full of surprises last year, rolling out a bunch of watches that quite literally no one saw coming. The “Celebration Dial” Oyster Perpetual with its colorful bubbles. The wild “Puzzle” Day-Date with its emojified date wheel. And, a few months after Watches & Wonders, the “Le Mans” Daytona with its custom movement and revival of the Paul Newman-style exotic dial.
After Rolex’s shocking and exciting 2023, it’s become clear that no one really knows what Rolex is going to release this year. But I can make my best guesses, based on the direction the brand is headed along with actual rumors floating around the aether. My ad told me the yacht master 2 has gone ,along with palm & honycomb dial datejusts . The current pos in the same ad shows the milgaus zig zig hands on it so I expect the return this year.
I'm very happy with my AD . I have bought a Sea Dweller & a James Cameron Deepsea in 4 years. Wait for the Sea Dweller was 6 months. For the Deepsea it was just over 2years . Well worth the wait. On the wait list for a Titanium Yachtmaster for a year now

I now realize why they didn't come with display back cases. The movement is wildly unremarkable compared with others in the price point.

Seadweller in ti vs. Pelagos 42…tough choice
Hmmm... Only one prediction was in resonance for me: yachtmaster 2...it needs a completely renewed aesthetic. That said, the EXPLORER II is what needs to be in RLX. The GMT.. Coke, yes.... Daydate... Exhibition case back maybe, but a completely different visual to the mechanical architecture and that includes the color scheme. Submariner is perfect.... Skydweller requires some visual finesse... The 1908 needs a secondary more interesting version which should include a moonphase but with the needle pointer type calendar date around it, not like the cellini! Plus, a visually more interesting movement aesthetic. The movements are just more than solid enough, now is time for fine wine input into the exhibition case back models... That's my design instinct. 🥂
