- A little dry fly fishing tale from the forest of Västerbotten, Sweden.

When I edit I usually make a sloppy voiceover recording that I change when I'm done with the story. This time I kept the powerless whispering voice, I'm not sure it was a good choice. Hope you enjoy it, Thanks for watching!

En fiskehistoria ifrån Västerbotten.
the week my son was born, put all my trout stuff in a duffle , stuck it on top of of big closet and did not touch it for 20+ years. fished saltwater surf and flats, never made it back on a stream . over pandemic, rummaging through things, found that duffle: like a time capsule, my vest, flies , fly boxes, disintegrating waders , books, notes all there waiting . and my rod, a Winston I bought in the mid-90's. last year took a large rainbow on a dry on the Deerfield in Mass. 25 years between trout. now I'm obliged to care for an ill and aging person so not so free to fish. life does complicate things but the dream of being on the stream does not fade. love your films.
Ya nothing good happens when we put the things we love on top of big closet.
Rolf, I appreciate your films so much beyond just their aesthetic and the skill you demonstrate. Your work pierces some slightly mystical veil about why we fish.; it touches on the soul stuff without being pretentious or contrived. In a world of overwrought fish-porn, your films are a welcome gift.
So nice of you to take the time to write that. Thank you Brad!
Felt like I was in a dream. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a video like this in my entire life.
These kind of films let you speechless. Atmosphere with your sound editing is so great, and goes perfectly with narrator. And those clips! Perfect shots all the time! That jumping trout clip.. like wtf man. How you get material like that? How many tries or hours those clips take? Insane. Respect as always
You said it all. Absolutely stunning film.
Ihme ja kumma ku tuolle ei harjus kelepaa
Seconded ! ... from a professional producer of 20 yrs.
"The grayling were just a station on my way towards the goal". The verbal imagery teamed with the visual story is just beautiful. I was captivated.
Such an amazing gift for your son.
You have captured the elusive essence of the soul of the creek.
Thank you.
So obviously the video and the story are beautiful. More importantly, I have to imagine that spending time in an environment like that, with those sights, sounds, and smells, will be really good for your boy. Not to mention spending time with dad, learning patience, persistence, and resilience (and also great filming and editing skills).
Thanks for sharing this. There's a lot to think about here.
Love it my friend ! Beautiful art
The only thing that has brought me more pleasure than a trout on the end of my flyrod is watching my son catch his first trout on a fly rod. Cheers
Amazing video. This is what I find to be one of the most satisfying things in life, exploring new rivers/creeks for trout. Looks like paradise.
Greetings from Colorado
I’m from Colorado
Absolutely fantastic. Brought back memories of fly fishing with my Grandfather on a similar sized stream in the OREGON Cascades.
Awesome work and exploration, with kid on back .great dad
I thought I was dreaming when I found this. The things that go through my mind while I'm fishing were completely mirrored in this calming naration. Thank you! Sub from the U.S.
Wow. This is amazing. The end choked me up. As a father it was the ultimate ending. Seeing your kids feel the same excitement you do about nature. I love this. That's the biggest dopamine rush there is. "Dad! Dad! I caught one!!"
One of, if not THE best fishing video I've ever seen. Better filming and editing than massive, multi-million grossing fishing brands produce. Beautiful scenery and great skills in both your videography and angling. Stunning.
Thank you!
Sir, this clip leaves me, as a father of (soon) 4 and a complete fishing nut, totally breathless. Your skills are beyond this world - and what you produce are purest gems of fishing videos, outstanding!
"Made a mistake of falling in love" - pricelessly funny but yet so touching.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
All the best to you (and to mini-you) from Estonia.
Thank you Sir!
I could relate to this story (and I'm sure I'm not the only one). It became much more difficult to justify traveling for weekends to fish after I got married, so I too spent many many fish-less trips searching closer to home. It has been frustrating, but that sense of completion when you do find what you're looking for is hard to beat. Thanks Rolf, you're truly the best!
THANK you!
Such films should win festivals!
Så bra. Snacka om att fånga tittarens totala uppmärksamhet. Minsta lilla ljud, ljus och rörelse. Tack!
Tack själv!
It can’t be real such level of perfection with every frame, absolutely no doubt this is the best clip I ever watched in this platform, even the smell of nature can be easily spotted 😍
Thank you so much for sharing such piece of art.

Your son is gonna grow up to be a great fly fisherman like his dad! Beautiful images and engaging storytelling.
Wonderful video. I have only caught a few grayling on a trip to Alaska. They were wonderful. There is a trick you can try for those trout in a spot you can't cast to. Move very, very slowly towards it. If anybody watching could notice you were moving, that is too fast. It might take half an hour to get into position, but if you move slowly enough, the trout won't pay any attention to you, even if you are wading right next to it. From there you can dap the fly on the surface, and catch him that way.
Beautiful.
I live in Tennessee, but recently traveled to Norway. Now your fly fishing videos are starting to pop into my feed. They are such a joy!
A small stream in Sweden.....Beautifully done.....
Thanks!
Loved the film! It's about so much more than the catch. It's the journey that led you there
Stunning film.
Beautiful!
Wonderful video absolutely wonderful! Beautiful fish and a handsome little boy as well!
you should come to the Smoky Mountains in the winter for fly fishing. It's not so cold and you can fish all year around, keep up the great stories
Rolf you’re a very talented artist. Keep the short films coming. I enjoy all of them.
Thank you Stephen!
Utterly masterful.
Great work - I love the peace and the silence!
A true piece of art.
This is why I moved to Ecuador ! Sold everything and took the jump! 365 days of gardening and living next to an incredible river. No rough days living here! Love your videos…. Keep it going!
Really nicely made and told. Transmission from father to child : inspiration.
I’m speechless!
I’m expecting to see this kind of extreme quality and story on Discovery or History Channel, but you...
You forced me to leave a comment,I usually don’t,I’m that kind of guy that keeps it for him self,I don’t share my thoughts, but you’ve forced me!
I’m posting videos as well once in a while, but now I’m not sure how can post anything after seeing the feelings and the live you’ve inserted into this masterpiece!
Hope to see more from you !
Thank you for sharing the video with us!
Wow, thank you!
Your films are just breath-taking.
I'm italian and I travel all the way to Västerbottens Län every two years for fishing. Who's never been there can't understand what we feel, I spend every single day of my life waiting for the moment I will set foot into the plane that takes me to Lapland.
Thanks for your work ❤
This is such a beautifully made film. It captures so much of what makes fishing more than just catching fish...
Amazing Rolf!
Simply amazing. So many good shots of rising trout. Love how you include your son now.
Thank you for sharing.
Great video!😉
Masterfully done! The story, the landscape, the fish, your son, the music and cinematography..... Yes, masterfully done :) it really brings ones self into the experience and makes it real. Absolutely loved it.
Your videos are inspiration to me in many ways.
Otroligt bra film, påminner mig om mina bäckörings äventyr i småländska skogarna.
Rolf - the narration worked perfectly. I've been fly fishing for 60 years and I really loved this on many, many levels. It recalled memories for me of being maybe 12 years old and lost in the magic of being in the woods and in the water and seeking the magic of trout. Loved seeing your son immersed there with you. Thank you for sharing this. A really wonderful work.
Thank you!
Awesome! Very well done.
Wow I love how you tell your stories with those shots. It's like reading a book and seeing it in real life! Love it! Subscribed.
Breathtaking
Absolutely fantastic. Thank you so much for uploading this uplifting film....
Utterly gorgeous storytelling. Hypnotic.
Rolf, you changed what a fly fishing video can give. As a fly fisherman with kids i feel connected to your perspective and agree with your point of view. Keep it up, man!
Such amazing shots. Great video man.
I'm a daddy too. Thank you so much for this film. You are the best.
I hope films like this can change the minds of those who refuse to preserve these timeless places and traditions...
Best in the business. No one else is close.
Thank you Zak.
Your film are just awesome! Can't believe I have missed your channel here on RUclips. Stunning! Just days now until the season begins here in Sweden :)
Tack!!
Absolutly stunning footage and a amazing story! This reminds me of my Norway trip. I felt in love with this landscape, rivers and fish too. Thanks mate for creating this "Movie" for us
Gotta love that ending, I loved the whole thing, but at the very when the boy is watching his dad call shots and do work... love it!
Great video of the life in a creek👌🏻
In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.”
In a small stream, there lives a trout. Not a sandy bottom, current-less stream filled with stagnant water, nor signs of life and food to eat: it was an untouched flowing stone bottom spring creek, and that means trout.
Great cinematography! The story is great. Superb scenary. Great job!
Thank you Dominique!
You are the best....number one!!!!!! Great video...congratulations
Super video.Klinkhamer # 12-my favorite fly in Yakutia ... 👍
This is the greatest video on RUclips . Wow!
Brilliant.Real quality.
This video is ridiculously good!! Captures wonderfully the essence of fly fishing for trout in Northern Europe . Those who have spent hours submerged in this magical pursuit know that the beauty of a wild brown trout is utterly unsurpassable.
Thanks for sharing. 😊😊😊😊😊
Can’t wait to get home and watch this on a big screen. Loved it!
Your best film yet.😊
Wow... Stunning atmosphere. Amazing work.
Such a beautiful video! Love from Norway🇳🇴
When you said you felt complete, I understood. Nature at its finest, splendid videos
beautiful and emotive film. thank you for sharing with us! keep up the good work, Rolf!
Great cinematography and great video. I love the way you condensed a year of filming in a single trout 😎.
For me it sounds very strange to hear someone talk this way about Graylings... Here in Verona we're sorrounded by brown and marble trouts, Graylings are here considered the holy grail of fly fishing.
Thank you Andrea.
Awesome video cant wait for the next one.
It's a tale from a lost paradise. Excellent work
Stellar video. Thank you
Absolutely perfect. So intimate.
fantastic! I enjoyed every second of the film

You've beautifully captured the magic of fly fishing in small streams. Your video made me feel like I was twelve again next to a small stream. Thank you.
