This is one of the best films I have seen in a long while. It is simple, but really captures the essence of an outing. The end really did it for me. The number of lost cell phones, pieces of gear, go pros, wedding ring.... it's real.
I'm just a guy from Europe. From Hungary. Your videos are so unique, I love listening to your narration and watch your visual presentation. It's all incredible. Anyone who doesn't want to grip a fly rod right away after any of your short films is not clean. Every frame of your film is wonderful, everything smells so alive. Thanks!
you wake up in the morning and right after you find yourself looking at the dude from the north snooping around overgrown creek, being eaten by mosquitoes and "mind occupants", and you can't help yourself with jealousy. But then you remember that in 3 days you are having a mountain river trip and smile is back to your face! ok, ok... the smile was there through all the video, because it's just another great stuff from Rolf! It's so nice to travel with you, keep up, it's never enough!
Many years ago, my dear Swedish friend, Bo Litzen drove us north for many hours to meet a farmer who walked us for some more hours into the local forest and mountains to find wilderness grayling fly fishing ...I will never forget the amazing countryside , alcohol, hospitality, fishing and huge mosquitoes:) thanks for making your wonderful videos and sharing with us all
I just discovered your collection of stories and I am enthralled, Rolf…I get the sense that even if the only views were from your family, that would be okay because that’s not the reason you made them. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard of a poet and philosopher practice their craft in any but their mother tongue; if you are this enjoyable in English I can only image what it must be like hearing you in Swedish. Bravo!
Rolf, I love your films! They really capture how a fisherman thinks, and talks to himself, works through how to catch a fish. Which ones you walk past. Which ones stay in your memory. Loosing your rod well if you haven’t mislaid your favourite rod, then you can’t know that pain.
Your sharing is one big part of what keep me going every day...u remind me about my own human nature...and I feel that I'm not the only one, that there is place for ppl like us on this planet... Thank you from deep inside...can't wait for the next kokkaffe adventure❤️
Your fly fishing adventure videos are the best! You have a fantastic eye and a unique way of capturing the a trip that makes me feel as if I was there. Thank you for another terrific video!
Strangely I feel so calm and serene after watching one of your videos - it's like I've just finished 20 minutes meditating - but I've had more fun than if I was meditating - because I've been fly fishing instead! : )
Damn, I was looking forward to that coffee! Good idea to have a flask of whisky in case you forget the lighter. Truly wild everything, a pleasure to watch. Your tolerance of the mosquitoes and midges is impressive, suspect that I would have been swearing incessantly! 🎣
any one who makes fly fishing videos should study your films, they are by far the best available today, simple yet deep with meaning. A long time ago in the UK we had a famous film maker, called Hugh Falkus, who made a film called Salmo the Leaper, sadly no longer available on any modern format, but the only film on par with your work.
Your videos are unique. despite the fact that after 25 years I stopped fishing, I watch them with passion. Your videos are special because you get excited about the spots, fish and flies in these videos like a child with a new toy. I love watching it!
This is perhaps my favorite fly fishing video I've ever seen. So honest and transparent. My brain works the same way when I fish and it was fun to see someone else get eaten alive by bugs with a smile because you're out there fishing. thanks for the video!
What can I say... Just incredible. Your work and music looks so natural and "effortless" but I can only imagine the hours and hard work that you have put into it. Thank you so much for your passion to your craft. From "Only the River Knows", the lost short "Melanncholic Doddings in New Zealand", (with Peter Christensen, Vimeo?) that I still miss, to everything else that you have on your channel is truly something to be proud of. I'm an Australian bamboo rodmaker (now living in New Zealand, thanks to my Kiwi wife). I hope that we can connect somewhere down the track...
That is what I like… hunting trout. Well done. Tip from us for the midgets. Take some flowers of lavendel , take some leaves of munt and some leaves 🍃 of citron melisse. And make tea 🫖 with boiled water. After that make a 1:1 mixer with wodka or cognac. So, f.i. One part wodka and same part tea. Do that in a spray bottle small and use that when you are in the nature. It,s probably help for the insects. Much greetings from us in Holland 🌷🌷
Once again you did it Rolf, lowered my heartbeat to meditation level and reminded me of why I started fishing in the first place. Once I lost a really nice Swedish built rod, I put it against a tree while fishing in the stream with the other rod and a cow passed and chewed it up 😅 What rod # do you use for your forest fishing adventures ? Greetings from Denmark 😊
Hello, Rolf. Just so you know, I too have lost a rod in the same way. However, I found a technique that has worked really well to see the pieces. Go back to the area at night with a flashlight. Shine the light where you think the rod may be. The graphite will give off a shiny reflection that stands out from the brush. It has saved a lost rod for me a couple of times. Good luck and thanks for your great films!
Forgive me if this isn't the right diary entry (great concept, BTW), but a suitable term for your deep bend in a meander would be 'Thalweg' - a German term for the fastest and deepest part of the river with the least amount of friction. Geomorphologists have some great terminology.
You are a ninja Rolf!! Oh man I lost my rod tip once it the thick bush. Almost impossible to find. As a rule now I make sure I’ve got the line through the guides or it’s secure in its holder strapped into my pack. Enjoying the series dude!!
That’s tough fishing i fished a stream in Cumbria many years ago probably about your age being in my middle 70 now and a little trick I used because stream was very small and over grown two piece fly rod fished with the top section with the reel in my pocket I caught 8-10 trout with that method lot of fun.
I went on a very rough excursion this past weekend with a Friend of mine here in the Highlands of Scotland and I also lost half of my rod on the way back, the trout we caught were also all small. I was stupid and tied my rod case to my bag upside down and the zip was slightly open. I couldn't bring myself to hike back the 10km to try and find it in the rain. Again, watching was a great break from my day. Thanks Rolf! P.s I find a mini flint attached to my keys makes sure I always have a spark on me for the stove.
Great video, loved it! Really sorry about the rod… Happened to me once! Others have already named the chunky biting bugs (horseflies or deerflies) and the small ones (midges). You say in the video we can hardly see the midges… which is why we also call them “no-see-ums” in Canada!
are you guys allowed to keep and eat wild fish or do you always put them back? Is there a lot of fishing pressure in your area?? Beautiful looking place.
Yess it was perfect!! Man I’d loose my nuts if they weren’t attached, don’t feel bad…I’ve lost two of my favorite fly rods by taking two rods out with me , setting one aside and fishing only the other one… I can so relate to your adventures and misadventures… it was perfect Rolf
I lost my lens cap at the edge of the swamp yesterday. The feeling was annoying, not like losing a rod section, but the swamp was so beautiful that I didn't much care.
Love your videos, it shows the real struggles of fly fishing tight backcountry streams. Spend a lot of time crawling through brush and getting your fly out of trees. Do they have therm o cells over there? Absolute lifesaver when it comes to mosquitos and you don't have to put chemicals all over your body.
Try Tenkara fishing. Your streams would be perfect for it. You can use any type of fly... except maybe streamers. But a Tenkara rod works perfectly for wet, dry or nymph... espcecially nymph.
Great storytelling as always. From one ninja wannabe to another, carry your rod in its bag/sock through thick bush/scrub/forest. Keep the bag in your pocket while fishing and rebag the rod when your done.
@@RolfNylinder funny, I have that one and tried it again last night. Worked great. Thank you. I had been using a condenser mic on the zoom h6. It pics up great ambient sounds but it’s bad for vocals.
I hope you find your rod tip. When I do something really really stupid, I find it useful to seek out a quiet place in the forest where no-one can see me and slap myself in the face as hard as I can. If you can still see the handprint on your face an hour later, that is the correct amount of force to use. If you see dots or blackout when you slap yourself, you may want to back it off a bit. You're welcome.
Envious of how natural your narration is! Such a joy to watch
Totally agree! You are a natural artist. Great eye for effectful captures as well, impressive with the result you get filming on your own.
This video was perfect. I laughed and I couldn’t have agreed more when you said “this place is beautiful. I need to make coffee here.”
This is one of the best films I have seen in a long while. It is simple, but really captures the essence of an outing. The end really did it for me. The number of lost cell phones, pieces of gear, go pros, wedding ring.... it's real.

Such a stunning masterpiece. Thanks, Rolf. I was psychically drained today, but to see your diary is like balsam for the soul. Thank you once more :)
Losing reels, rods, knifes, cameras, batteries, and so on...I feel you brother, ADHD, the struggle is real.

Midges and horse flys.
Love these, love all your work, can’t wait for your film from the mountains.
Bendpool, klockrent. Fortsätt filma, du kommer bli prisad en dag. Och jag blir glad varje gång du släpper nåt nytt. Lidmans böcker, Rolfs filmer.
What an adventure! Thanks for taking us along! It’s great that we don’t get tore up by the mosquitoes though:)
Keep the videos coming! Love them!
incredible the number of mosquitoes in Rolf's area!
dang, man, you make the best fishing movies in youtube.

Fantastic video , lost a rod and forget the lighter before 😂 , the new stoves with built on ignition are a game changer 😉
I just got back from a trip to North Carolina,I was lucky enough to catch a beautiful Brook trout.your videos make me want to pick up the fly rod.
Best part of my week, Kokkaffe Diaries! Brilliant video, Rolf!
I love these slow paced, calming videos. It feels like being there. Now I want to go fishing.

Wieder ein Klasse Video, Petri Rolf! 👌👏👏👏👍
0:56-1:16 Aww man, yet another killer anecdote from you that hits me hard 😂

Thank you! I prefer a #3 glas fibre rod. But when I loose that one I use my #5.
@@RolfNylinder thanks Rolf, this summer I got myself a #3 7.6", I really like this short rod for my small local streams with lots of trees.

Ah! Will try!
oh rolf the joy you bring me
Man I wish I could find some hidden forest rivers here in southern Finland, getting more and more interested in fly fishing instead of spinning reel!
Love the videos! Keep up the great work! Hello from Montana, USA.
I love watching your extended videos but I am also enjoying these shorter more frequent ones as well. Thank you.
Mosquito infestation of the mind. Still the best Rolf. Great editing.

Love the new videos Rolf, thank you for producing top quality films! All the best from Tokyo
Man these kokkaffe filmer are the best thing in RUclips. Keep them coming! Hienoa!
Really enjoying the new series
Rolf this is great work, you should add he Bow and Arrow cast to your technique in the forest :-)

You films have the subtle drama of a suspenseful crime movie.
You fish some real bashers! Lots of roll casts and bow and arrow casts.
My man! Awesome stories, takes, audio & colors! it's outstanding! Congratz!
Seeing you get chills made me get chills
are you guys allowed to keep and eat wild fish or do you always put them back? Is there a lot of fishing pressure in your area??
Beautiful looking place.
We do take some fish sometimes, depending on the place and the mood. The pressure is low in most places.

Yes, that’s the one!
When you visit their temple, the fish request a gift for their gods.
Tasty and beautiful!
Love it, shame about the rod but these things do have a habit of turning up.👍
Please tell me you you found all the section of you rod!.
We get attached to our tools, even an old camp kettle too
Thanks for another great one and reminding me that we are all Trout Ninja's....................in our own mind😬😂
Thank you!
Simply good Rolf 👍👍
In the PNW we call those no-see-ums
Looking for a pool then looking for a rod tip/piece... never ending story. Some nice catches though. Stream needs a good clear out me thinks..👀
Did you find your the missing piece/s to your favorite fly rod?
Not so far!
9:15 Shaku Ninja has entered the chat.
So no coffee and a missing rodtip but still smiling… i would’ve burnt the forest down😅
OMG the mosquitos! horror 😀
In Texas we call those little bugs No-see-ums. They do leave an impression, just not a visual one.
Nicely done.
In America we call those small annoying bugs gnats (pronounced nat). They’re pain
Another great video... bug net.
