The singer is Roland Gift,a talented young black man.He was worried he would become the stereotypical "musician"aka, drugs, booze, women and scandal,so he dropped out for a normal life before it could happen to him
This was a big hit in the `80s!! MTV used to play it all the time...when MTV actually played music. 2 other really nice songs by them "Suspicious Minds" ( the Elvis song )...& "Ever Fallen In Love". Check those two out!!
My step father was a friend of the band. I remember him going to launch party for this album in Kingston upon hull, east Yorkshire. Had to have been around 1989.
Cool.
@@lawrencekelli the band was his claim to fame. 😂
@@TheRetroManRandySavage I can imagine ..lol.
I had a record shop in Ireland in the late 80s and this album was a massive seller along with Phil Collins But seriously and Chris Rea Road to hell.
Great time for vinyl.
@@zigman63 I miss the old record shops. I used to love going to our price records on a Saturday.
Turns out i got the story wrong. It wasn't for the album's launch party. It was Roland's party that he had for leaving the band.
Asia & BJ, members Andy Cox and David Steele, were from the Beat(The English Beat). You will love their "Save It For Later", "I Confess" and "Mirror in the Bathroom"! Quite a voice on Roland Gift here.
Oooo, Mirror in the Bathroom is a favorite.
Abso-effing-lutely!
Andy Cox's sister Ruth was one of my tutors at college in Glasgow way back in the mid 80's. Nice woman.
"I just can't stop it " by The Beat ( I'm a Brit so they're The Beat to me, "English " was added by their record company just in the US) was actually the first LP I bought as a young boy and what an album it is : "mirror in the bathroom " "Stand down Margaret "hands off she's mine " . etc etc Two tone music was also important socially in that it was proudly multi racial at a time in the UK when the fascist National Front was trying to stir up racial hatred. Two tone as a whole was fantastic music with a powerful and important message
You guys are right. The 80’s were the best. I was in my 20’s and now looking back,
I feel fortunate to have been a part of it. I Want My MTV!
Love this, its a pity you didn't have the video Roland Gift the singer, I'm just mesmerised on the mouth movement he uses. They had lot of great songs Johnny Come Home, Good Thing, I'm Not the Man I Used To Be, Suspicious Minds. 🤗❤
Well, i just had to tick and get you off that no.13 buddy. Great song tho. And yeah, Johnny come on home....
NGL, he was a good looking fella.. 😂
Their other #1 song was Good Thing (my favorite) which followed this one. :)
Their take of Suspicious Minds is sublime…
"I'm Not The Man I Used To Be" is my favourite track of FYC, but they've done some other great ones, "Blue", "Funny How Love Is", "Ever Fallen In Love", "Good Thing", "It's OK, It's Alright", "Don't Look Back", "I'm Not Satisfied", "Johnny Come Home"
They did a 2nd part to Johnny Come Home called "Johnny Takes A Trip", which was on the remix album of "The Raw and the Cooked", called "The Raw and the Remix"
The Two members Cox and Steele also produced some house music, one track of which was called "Tired Of Being Pushed Around" which they released under the name "Two Men A Drum Machine And A Trumpet"
"I'm Not The Man I Used to Be" is also my favorite song by them. Roland Gift really comes close to the sort of soul singer he imagines in that song.
@@John_Chu His voice really suits the overall feeling of the song.
Love them doing “Good Thing” and “Johnny Come Home!” 🎶
Good song. Fine Young Cannibals were a brief burst of enjoyment back in the eighties, then they vanished. Roland Gift is a talented, fun dude with a very unique voice.
Their Name Comes From A 1960 Classic Movie Called "All The Fine Young Cannibals"
Which comes from the 1960 book 'All the Fine Young Cannibals' by American author Rosamond Marshall.
@@user-eo7hg4pf8i True dat alley cat 😺
The original & definitive version its Roland has a unique voice that suits the lyrics other singers can't measure up. Its literally been covered almost 30 times by the likes of Sting, Tom Jones, Dolly Parton & Kermit the Frog for Christ sake
The singer is Roland Gift. I recommend "Good Thing" next.
Yeah, unless you were raised by wolves in the forest, you've heard this song multiple times (or at least the hook.)
FYC are SO MUCH FUN TO WATCH - You really have to watch one of their videos. They also do a FINE COVER of Elvis' SUSPICIOUS MINDS :-D
I can remember hearing this song on the radio. Everyone stopped doing whatever they were doing.. and started groooooooovin' . Such an iconic sound. They had a couple of hits... then they just sort of faded away. Someone must have sampled parts of this song. Take care......
Great reaction.
Fun facts about FYC: She Drives Me Crazy reached the #1 spot on Billboard music charts in several countries in 1989.
The album it came from, The Raw and The Cooked also reached #1 and also included another #1 hit for them, Good Thing.
I really think you should react to Good Thing; you would enjoy it.
Also, of note, lead vocalist, Roland Gift, is a respected actor in his home country of Great Britain.
Source of info: Wikipedia Music.
Best thing is thier songs Still sound as fresh today as they did back then Awsome music......
The song was released in 1989. The Fine Young Cannibals formed in1984. Both of my children are 80's babies. Thank you for the video reaction Asia and BJ.
The English Beat was a much better band, check out their 3 albums. General Public also spun off from The Beat.
Give a listen to 'Save It for Later', 'Doors of Your Heart', 'I Confess', 'Hands Off She's Mine', 'Too Nice to Talk To' and their cover of 'Tears of a Clown'.
This song always reminded me of I've Been Thinking About You by London Beat.
Good Thing, and Suspicious minds cover is great, two of the members were ex English Beat members,
This was a good one too. The banter between you two are great. Makes me think of my parents. They were the best of friends and you could just see the love in their banter. They were both quick whitted so their conversations were so funny at times.
80s were the most fun of my life and music was the best!!!!!!!!!
The 80s were the best. This song was so popular (for a good reason), and the band name is the best.
When I was in basic training our drill sergeant trolled us by playing this song, all night long by Lionel Richie, and Higher love by Steve Winwood on a loop for weeks and weeks. Now I find them oddly nostalgic.
I really..lot's like FYC...Great songs.''Johnny''come on home, was the first song I heard of their's it's still my fav...great trumpet and horns in it.
80’s music is the best! Great reaction!
Pity you couldn't the videoclip. Fantastic dancing. By the way: the eighties were everything but happy. Glad we had thse great music to pull us through. Crisis everywhere you looked but on the dancefloor......
Their Good Thing song is really good too, and my favorite cover of Suspicious Minds of Elvis is by them too! Nobody react to it unfortunately (the Elvis cover, or other songs by them)
Another great uk 🇬🇧 band
I remember when this came out and I loved it. They had a music video where they were dressed like a motorcycle gang in New York. Then they all get on these little customized Vespa scooters and ride around. They looked cool asf. I can't even find that video now even though I keep looking for it.
The video to "Good Thing" I think is what you are thinking about.
@@a-dub thanks
The hook in this song is pure evil. It gets in your head and wont leave! Soon you'll start changing the lyrics in your mind and after several weeks you'll need therapy! More like this song drives me crazy! 😂
My favourite track by FYC is "I'm Not The Man I Used To Be", it is both groovy and melancholy, it's a song that sounds like it could have been a cover of a Motown track or something (edit: but it isn't!... before anyone else tries to correct me), it has a really classic feel.
It's an original song by the band written by Roland
@@alistairmcdougall8390 I know, I was just saying it sounds like a classic song.
@@throwabrick I wasn't trying to correct you I just misread into it that you weren't sure, it's probably one of their best tracks, so different from the rest of their music really classy👌
BJ-"You drive my crazy tho" Asia-"I know"casually like its perfectly fine to do that 😂😂😂
You should have reacted to the vid of this song!
It was in the movie Hitch
...and a couple other movies too
I love that song, but I have to tell, 2Cellos is famous for their hard rock covers, ACDC cover Thunderstruck video will blow your mind, it has 232million views please😊
when I first heard this song on the radio i was all "wow, these guys are going to be big!"
nope. not sure why. Great song, great sound!!!
You guys should react to EMF You're Unbelievable. A great song from 1990
The 80'S the best 👌 you are so amazing your time to time travel through different era's in songs 🎵 ❤ from England 🇬🇧
General Public "Tenderness"...Nuff Said.
Awww...you 2!! 😁
I had such a crush on the lead singer ❤️🔥 😍 Iconic song with such a hook you cannot help but sing this loud and dance to this!
In Honor & Memory Of Him,,
Jermaine Stewart "We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off"...R.I.P. Jermaine 🙏 ❤
I just looked him up. He died a long while back, and young.
@@RayfordRaySiegel Unfortunately,, Yes He Did,, Just As He Was Hitting It Big.
I love watching you guys love each other....I'm a sucker for a couple that love each other the way you two do....my mom and dad had that kind of relationship too....peace.
Try Johnny the track that catapulted The Fine Young Cannibals into the music limelight 👌
Absolutely love Johnny come home!
Especially the extended mix...
I hope I didn't already send this, I love this song but I want to tell 2Cellos are famous for their hard rock covers, ACDC THUNDERSTRUCK VIDEO, it will blow your mind, it has 232million views so far😊💛
Check out their hit “Good Thing”. 80’s hit with a 60’s Motown feel.
They came out in the late 80's rocked!!
Hi again. You two are so adorable together! If you enjoyed this bit of English music history, have a listen to Ian Dury and the Blockheads. Very Funky! HIT ME WITH YOUR RHYTHM STICK, SEX AND DRUGS AND ROCKNROLL, I WANNA BE STRAIGHT and my personal favourite REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL part 3. They were a fantastic band. The lead singer had polio as a child which is why he looks a little odd, but he and his band were seriously amazing musicians. Thanks again for being you. Nici
This was sampled a good bit as well...great, catchy tune.
heavy mtv rotation back in the day after school...
Another 80s kid, loving these choices!
@Asia and BJ : Good stuff 😄😄. We all have our own "crazy" that we can't do without. I know I have.
BTW. See the Wikipedia entry for this track to see how the drum track was recorded.
"Good thing" was a good song by them.
"Tin Men" (1987) is one of my all-time favorite films.
Oh snap! So cool you reacted to this band of models haha, looks like people have suggested their songs in the comments so, here's mine: Big Pig--Breakaway. It's a banger!
They were a break off from "The English Beat " which "General Public " did too. Check them out, but you hafta check out "The English Beat "❤
Roland Gift, the lead singer.
The Gift that is Roland. He just keeps on giving.
I love it when you two recognize a song!
Also, checkout Good Thing by the same band
You guys should do a react to their song Good Thing!!!
Roland Gift has a high range!😃
Suggested video 📹: Good Thing
Don't look back, and Good Thing are awesome from this album.
What a cool song. 😎
This was the year I graduated high school The 80s were very "POPPY" and the hair metal bands got old after Def Leppard and the Scorpions. The 90s and the 70s were more similar. The 80s were a lot like the 1950s.
Kermit the Frog did a pretty good cover of this one (singing to Miss Piggy, of course). 🐸
Classic video from the '80's. Shame you're not watching it guys.
This song was overplayed on the radio during the '80's... FYC have better songs such as:
*Good Thing
*Johnny come home
*Suspicious Minds (Elvis cover)
Thanks!
Thanks, appreciate the love! Sorry we missed this before I vacay ❤️❤️ to you!
This is probably too late to get noticed, but y'all should 100% do 'Good Thing' by FYC. Just trust me it suits you guys perfectly.
This was in one of Colombo's episode lol I was like "wut"? Their mid 80s tracks are pretty good. They covered Elvis' "suspicious minds" once. People love it better than the original I would tend to agree with them. No ill intention to the King. 🙂 I like their "Not the man I used to be" track, one of my favorite of theirs.
You should check out Dwight Yoakam's cover of "Suspicious Minds".
@@RayfordRaySiegel I'm not a fan of ellvis nor the song. Just pointing out that they've covered it.
@@h.c4898,
Oh, okay
Ah, excuse me sir (or ma'am). Would you happen to know the name of that episode? You see, my superior is a stickler for details and he's not going to accept my report without that information.
@@johnwood9504 it was its last season I think. Finally found the video, this one. 😀 RIP Peter Falk.

Good thing is my fave
Please checkout Buffalo Stance by Neneh Cherry, and 3AM Eternal by KLF
That drumb beat sounds like Cameo
Word up
Definitely Missing Out Not Watching The Official Music Video For This One.
Good Thing was always my favorite of their songs, but they play this one more often...it's on a lot of "work/mall" music soundtracks.
You should have done the official video, it is fun.
Gotta checkout "Goodthang" from them next time to react to them.
😂 Have yall seen him though i feel his look dont match his voice like you wouldnt think hed have a voice like that 😂 remember this well from back in the day
The two of you are awesome! Like silly little kids. 😊
You should check out Johnny Come Home. 😀
Loving ur banter here guys. Hold on to the ❤️
Try "You Steal My Sunshine" by Len.
Reminds of a Prince song 🔥🔥
Love the channel
Thier best song is 'Good Thing'
Great reaction! xoxo Love your love.
Thank you so much!!
Another hit 80s 👌
Please react to "Johnny come home" of the Fine Young Cannibals? Thank you! 💕
Dang. I just found out that I had a line wrong, all these years. Did anyone else hear "that long blonde hair"?
Please react to Gino Vanelli "Wild Horses". Greetz from Germany 🙋🏼♂️🇩🇪
Love you guys! Keep them coming!
Johnny !
A lot of the videos back then were cheesy, but this song has stood the test of time.
You guys will love " King of wishful thinking " by Go West
The music video is very entertaining
Keep it up good stuff
I would like to see you react to "Don't Look Back" by the FYC's.
