This was a big hit in the `80s!! MTV used to play it all the time...when MTV actually played music. 2 other really nice songs by them "Suspicious Minds" ( the Elvis song )...& "Ever Fallen In Love". Check those two out!!
The singer is Roland Gift,a talented young black man.He was worried he would become the stereotypical "musician"aka, drugs, booze, women and scandal,so he dropped out for a normal life before it could happen to him
My step father was a friend of the band. I remember him going to launch party for this album in Kingston upon hull, east Yorkshire. Had to have been around 1989.
I had a record shop in Ireland in the late 80s and this album was a massive seller along with Phil Collins But seriously and Chris Rea Road to hell. Great time for vinyl.
@@zigman63 I miss the old record shops. I used to love going to our price records on a Saturday. Turns out i got the story wrong. It wasn't for the album's launch party. It was Roland's party that he had for leaving the band.
Asia & BJ, members Andy Cox and David Steele, were from the Beat(The English Beat). You will love their "Save It For Later", "I Confess" and "Mirror in the Bathroom"! Quite a voice on Roland Gift here.
"I just can't stop it " by The Beat ( I'm a Brit so they're The Beat to me, "English " was added by their record company just in the US) was actually the first LP I bought as a young boy and what an album it is : "mirror in the bathroom " "Stand down Margaret "hands off she's mine " . etc etc Two tone music was also important socially in that it was proudly multi racial at a time in the UK when the fascist National Front was trying to stir up racial hatred. Two tone as a whole was fantastic music with a powerful and important message
Love this, its a pity you didn't have the video Roland Gift the singer, I'm just mesmerised on the mouth movement he uses. They had lot of great songs Johnny Come Home, Good Thing, I'm Not the Man I Used To Be, Suspicious Minds. 🤗❤
"I'm Not The Man I Used To Be" is my favourite track of FYC, but they've done some other great ones, "Blue", "Funny How Love Is", "Ever Fallen In Love", "Good Thing", "It's OK, It's Alright", "Don't Look Back", "I'm Not Satisfied", "Johnny Come Home" They did a 2nd part to Johnny Come Home called "Johnny Takes A Trip", which was on the remix album of "The Raw and the Cooked", called "The Raw and the Remix" The Two members Cox and Steele also produced some house music, one track of which was called "Tired Of Being Pushed Around" which they released under the name "Two Men A Drum Machine And A Trumpet"
Good song. Fine Young Cannibals were a brief burst of enjoyment back in the eighties, then they vanished. Roland Gift is a talented, fun dude with a very unique voice.
The original & definitive version its Roland has a unique voice that suits the lyrics other singers can't measure up. Its literally been covered almost 30 times by the likes of Sting, Tom Jones, Dolly Parton & Kermit the Frog for Christ sake
The English Beat was a much better band, check out their 3 albums. General Public also spun off from The Beat. Give a listen to 'Save It for Later', 'Doors of Your Heart', 'I Confess', 'Hands Off She's Mine', 'Too Nice to Talk To' and their cover of 'Tears of a Clown'.
Great reaction. Fun facts about FYC: She Drives Me Crazy reached the #1 spot on Billboard music charts in several countries in 1989. The album it came from, The Raw and The Cooked also reached #1 and also included another #1 hit for them, Good Thing. I really think you should react to Good Thing; you would enjoy it. Also, of note, lead vocalist, Roland Gift, is a respected actor in his home country of Great Britain. Source of info: Wikipedia Music.
I can remember hearing this song on the radio. Everyone stopped doing whatever they were doing.. and started groooooooovin' . Such an iconic sound. They had a couple of hits... then they just sort of faded away. Someone must have sampled parts of this song. Take care......
The song was released in 1989. The Fine Young Cannibals formed in1984. Both of my children are 80's babies. Thank you for the video reaction Asia and BJ.
This was a good one too. The banter between you two are great. Makes me think of my parents. They were the best of friends and you could just see the love in their banter. They were both quick whitted so their conversations were so funny at times.
Their Good Thing song is really good too, and my favorite cover of Suspicious Minds of Elvis is by them too! Nobody react to it unfortunately (the Elvis cover, or other songs by them)
My favourite track by FYC is "I'm Not The Man I Used To Be", it is both groovy and melancholy, it's a song that sounds like it could have been a cover of a Motown track or something (edit: but it isn't!... before anyone else tries to correct me), it has a really classic feel.
@@throwabrick I wasn't trying to correct you I just misread into it that you weren't sure, it's probably one of their best tracks, so different from the rest of their music really classy👌

When I was in basic training our drill sergeant trolled us by playing this song, all night long by Lionel Richie, and Higher love by Steve Winwood on a loop for weeks and weeks. Now I find them oddly nostalgic.
