  • What do Johnny Depp, Bill Nye the Science Guy, and a little old lady from Russia have to do with creativity? More important, how can they help you tap into your own creative genius?
Bill Stainton believes that when we isolate ourselves from ideas, experiences, and people that are “different,” we are robbing ourselves, our businesses, our communities, and our world of the creative ideas that are essential to solving our biggest challenges. Only by becoming less isolationist-by “cracking our cocoon” and embracing people and experiences that may at first seem “weird”-will we discover the connections that can lead to breakthrough ideas.
If you’d like more ideas on how YOU can “crack your cocoon” and tap into YOUR OWN creative genius, visit www.CrackYourCocoon.com.

I need a wearable keyboard, why can't i just split a bluetooth keyboard in two and put it behind or on the side of a tablet so I can then hang the tablet on my shoulders or around my neck to type while I walk around. Bonus if I use lip reading.

This has been one of the hardest things for ppl that have social anxiety and are introverted. Definitely got to try to beat that fear and just be without fear of rejection, judgment or misunderstanding! Cause we’re all human some of us will click and some won’t. Trial and error

I connected a few dots when a friend in Germany called Tony Sheridan (Beatles - Hamburg) told me to contact a guy named Bill Stainton. Told me it was important, gave no reason. Normally I might have let this information from Tony just fly away...but for some reason I decided to contact this stranger.......and now I have a whole lot of dots. Creative, indeed. Cheers to you Bill, my dear friend. Dave Humphries.

I think the most important part of becoming more creative is changing your daily routine.
You need to start looking at the world with different eyes, different mindset if you actually want to increase your creativity.
You also have to become more open-minded, say "yes" more than "no".
By changing the way you perceive the world, you are bound to notice increase in your own creativity.

I just finished reading all 238 comments and "liked probably 230. I am curious to know how many readers of Bill Stainton's Ted Talk can say they applied his brilliant and infectious encouragement to their lives in any way since receiving this outstanding education in only 20 minutes? Some of you were exposed five years ago. Some only five months ago. Myself, five minutes ago! But I have the glorious advantage of having heard this talk moments after watching Stephan Schwartz's Ted Talk of six years ago. It is called
"8 Laws of Change." I needed to hear that Talk when I had an idea for a business that would help wounded Veterans- a very good idea- but with only one and a half dots, the only inspired person was me. Still, I learned a lot, and that is never a minus. This time around, I will do better! Thank you, Bill, for your work of art!

Found out about this talk through Nancy Juetten's FB live with Bill Stainton. Couldn't wait for the live program to be over ( kind of ) so I could listen to Bill's Ted X talk. At first I thought it was going to be predjudical and discriminatory. But that was the problem, of not being open to "weird ness" that Bill solved. What a world we all can miss when we are not open to different. How can we be creative if we don't form connections? This really speaks to the value and importance of connecting with others to form new relationships to each other, new ideas and to ourselves. This was a most surprising and worthy Ted Talk. A message worth sharing again and again. Well done, Bill.

    3. Live outside our cocoon.

Brilliant, such a simple and powerful idea to connect different ideas and with different people. It's challenging but also sounds great fun! Let's go.

Do you remember the travel game, Connect The Dots? What I love about this game is discovering that the image was there all along. By connecting the dots I enter into the great cosmic conspiracy of coincidence and co-create with the Universe. One dot, listening to Russian music on an airplane, another dot, a Russian music teacher takes the empty seat beside you, the third dot...and so on...

I never played that travel game, but now you've piqued my interest! I'll have to do some research.

I watched this during the 2020 pandemic lock down. So when he said "go to lunch with someone different" I looked over at my wife and dog that have been isolated with me for 3 weeks...and thought I'll focus on the other suggestions for now.

Fair point! I think the pandemic version might be "have a virtual coffee with someone different"!

Listening for the second time- wonderful message. I will think about this every I am getting settled on a airplane. Thank you for helping me change the way I look at many things as I walk through life.

Masterful presentation! Great work Bill. You provide rare humor and insights and get us thinking outside of our own world of blue dots. It's no wonder you just earned one of the highest designations for professional speakers. I look forward to seeing more from you.

What a fabulous message Bill. Thank you for delivering it with such flair and passion. I needed to hear this today. Living on a small island in the Bahamas and being seen as an 'elite' has kept me in my cocoon for much too long. I felt intuitively since the start of this year that NOW is the time to break my shell and dare to be fully seen and dare to discover myself and the world in a new and outrageously different way. Loved the analogy with the dots :-) I will also start to speak to strangers in my own little island. And yes, I relate to your airplane experience. Thanks again for bringing your important message to the world; it landed right in front of me on my little island in the sun. Well, thanks for remote internet connection :-)

Thank you so much, Angelika! And what an interesting perspective--that of having to break out of the "elite" cocoon. I admire your honesty and your courage.
