I compared the Arrow 4K to the previous Arrow blu-ray and found there to be an appreciable improvement in fine detail overall. It was not a night and day difference but I did find the 4K upgrade to be worthwhile and when it comes to Kelly LeBrock in her prime, I want as much detail as I can get.

I think Arrow needs to stop referring to O-ring slipcovers as "limited edition packaging" and go back to calling them "special edition" releases. This seems to be something new that they only started doing this year (conflating rigid LE slipcases with O-ring slipcovers). Nowadays, people have no idea whether they're getting a slipcover or a hard box slipcase (and it's not like the photos really help... the marketing photos can be very deceiving). I feel like this confusion may be intentional on Arrow's part... almost like they want collectors to believe they're getting hard slipcases when they're not (i.e. kind of like a "bait-and-switch" deal).

After Sixteen Candles and Breakfast Club, which were well-reviewed and hits, Weird Science came out to almost totally negative reviews and did pretty poorly at the box office. At the time, I thought eventually it would seem better than it did at the time. It's grown on me since then.

My goal is to get all of the Brat Pack movies in 4K as friends and family still enjoy them more so than classics and epics. If you ever get a projector setup, I think you will have a different take on films because it is a completely different experience than watching on television.

Think I'll just stick to my Blu ray for this one. I did upgrade the Last Starfighter to 4k and although marginal I thought the upgrade was worth it. But I don't like this movie enough to double dip. I do really like the film, but to me the 4k downscaled 1080p Blu ray looks absolutely excellent already and I'm happy with it. I could probably say that about The Last Starfighter as well but I feel it's just fractionally a bit better on 4k. Plus that movie has more childhood nostalgic value for me than Weird Science.

I picked it up yesterday from B&N. Thought the grain was a bit heavy too, but not enough to ruin it. That opening scene in particular was super grainy, but that was part of re-shoots, so maybe that explains it. I upgraded from an early 2000's dvd, so it was still a worthwhile upgrade for me.

Haven't seen Planes-Trains-Automobiles yet (but I soon will), but apart from that I totally agree. Weird Science beats them all. I was 19 when this film was published (and had chicks galore), but nonetheless... We need the 4K for one reason only: to close-up on Kyn Malin's upper torso.

I'm usually a grain hater, but do I really like this one better then the Arrow blu, which had coarse grain, compared to semi fine here. Cleanup could have been closer to perfect, but an B+ overall.
Maybe watch on a day when grain frames blend together better for you? Same with Ghostbusters and Spaceballs 4k. When I find them all too grainy, I know it's time for a few digitally shot movies or say a Pixar movie.

“Added in a lot of grain”. No. Movies shot on film don’t “add in” grain. Especially from labels like Arrow. The scan on the UHD just retains the natural film grain more fully than the 1080p Blu is capable of. Your problem isn’t with the transfer, it’s with the source material.
