    I would actually have to disagree with you for once, Jeff. I find that Arrow puts out better releases, in terms of all the "goodies" (special features, packaging, etc.), for 80's horror/slasher releases than Shout Factory... BUT Shout Factory puts out more well-known/well-received/acclaimed movies, so they win that. For more obscure/cult movies? Arrow.

    • @JeffRauseo

      Alex Skellington no that’s totally fair! I would typically put Arrow ahead of Scream, but Scream has more mainstream stuff like you said.

    • @Theomite
      @Theomite 4 года назад +1

      Shout! Factory also has trouble with their extras. They rarely get major cast members in their retrospective interviews (DeNiro, Billy Crystal, and Liam Neeson are exceptions), and often they'll leave out key things that are hard to find like the TV version of THE JERK. For the stellar restorations they do, they barely get cooperation from the people they need for the bonus features and yet they still charge premium. At least drop the price down if your only special features are a trailer and a single interview with the editor.

    • @jeremydrew1227
      @jeremydrew1227 4 года назад +1

      @@Theomite I agree to an extent. Majority of their releases are good with special features and they do get the major actors for interviews. Like for example, they did a fantastic interview with Linda Blair for Hell Night.
      But releases like John Carpenter's Someone's Watching Me is very bare bones in special features compared to their usual and I still paid over $20 for it. But that was due to it being a Carpenter film. That alone is worth the price imo.

    • @Theomite
      @Theomite 4 года назад +1

      @@jeremydrew1227 Yeah, if I'm gonna pay $20 for Carpenter, it's gonna be fore one of his more genre movies like PRINCE OF DARKNESS and not say, STARMAN.

      @jeremydrew1227 4 года назад +1

      @@Theomite the Scream Factory release is barebones in features as well for Prince of Darkness. But they do so well with movies like Halloween II or The Thing. It's a hit or a miss with them. I haven't seen a Criterion or Arrow film suffer in features.

    Unless I've missed it somewhere else in the comments, I want to give a shout-out to niche labels that release both contemporary and classic titles for animé fans. My personal favorites are GKIDS and Discotek Media/Eastern Star. I really love the work they've done, along with other boutique labels for various genres. I've collected hundreds of Blu-ray titles over the years, mostly from niche labels like Criterion, Shout/Scream Factory, Arrow, Olive, and the former two. I don't know if I could be prouder of all the work and dedication they have demonstrated over the years giving the fans what they want.

    I've read reviews that Kino Lorber's Blu-ray restorations of silent films pale compared to the BFI UK releases because they'll change out original intertitles, drop frames in their speed correction, and even black problems such as pixellation and digital tiling. So as badly as I want NOSFERATU, CALIGARI, and PHANTOM, I've held off on buying them for this reason. Which sucks because a 4K restoration of METROPOLIS would be stellar.
