Everything about this movie is perfect - script, actors, cinematography, score - lightning in a bottle!
Just watched the 4K tonight and damn it’s great. Movie holds up incredibly well and it looked fantastic. And man I forgot how much of a banger that score is.
That score is so awesome!
i just ordered the UK 4k BD ltd edition of RoboCop. Thanks for your truely raving review. One of my fav films, saw it in 1987 in cinema. blew me away. I live in NL, diractor Paul Verhoeven 's home country.! great review
Can't even call it a booklet at 80 pages. I pre-ordered this one, was so happy when this showed up.
Great review. I preordered the 4K box set directly from Arrow as soon as they announced it. Grew up with the movie myself and remains one of my Top 10 all-time favourite films. The set is fantastic, and the movie will likely never look better than this.

Robocop is definitely one of my favourite Sci-fi action thrillers of all time, I actually own the limited Edition boxset on blu-ray & I watched it a few times & still a pretty damn good movie, Paul Valhavin has done a terrific job on making this film & turned out really well
I literally just ordered this yesterday! I ordered the hardbox. I can't wait to watch it in glorious 4K!

Great review...i agree on all your statements. I have a decent surroundsystem set up and i was shocked to be able to hear new details on the dolby atmos track that i never heard bevore. I even double dipped on this one...i got the box set and the steelbook. I put the steelbook in the box set and sold the amaray. A must own...

So theirs 2 different options on Best Buy app theirs one that’s like $34 and another for $24 and their both 4k and do you by chance know the difference?
I think Robocop does get the Respct it deserves . People love this movie . You may feel doesn't because A list Arnold . But when this came out 1987 was a massive hit. Toys and cartoons. Was very very big. Also the sequels were pretty bad comparing to the 1st. The 2nd one was OK, but the 3rd was a joke.
That was when it came out. I'm just talking about today people don't seem to hold it up like Terminator or Aliens.
@@midlevelmedia I think because only the first one was such a classic and both sequels were really trash and Terminator and Allen both had amazing sequels to follow the 1st. Had 6 Terminator movies and 5 Alien movies plus had big time director's even though Paul is great .
Oh, this has two commentaries I haven't heard before, plus the Criterion commentary. Now, that's cool. I'm gonna have to pick this up at some point.

Hey man American werewolf in London was my first Arrow 4K and it did not disappoint I honestly can’t imagine Robocop will be much different
To me, it's right up there with Werewolf! Both magnificent transfers!
As someone who has yet to make the jump to UHD, but likes collecting UHD/BD combos for future-proofing, it also disappoints me that Arrow Video doesn't include them together. I'm looking to upgrade from the 20th Anniversary 2-disc Collector's Edition, and this may be a rare occasion where I opt for the UHD instead of the BD!
One of my all time favorites. Bought both versions both times. I own robocop almost as many times as i own terminator 2. First saw it taped off tv on my 13" tube back in 89. Been hooked ever since.
Youre right, theres nothing else like RoboCop. Closest modern movie to its no nonsense action is Dredd. 2 is ok, 3 is crap, but this original is a absolutely outstanding film. Really need the RoboDoc fan documentary to release, they've been working on it for years.

As a child of the 70s & 80s this is one of my all time favorites! Better than any of the Terminators IMO. What is the actual status of the RoboDoc documentary?

Ugh I got a 4k screener for review so I'm trying to find someone selling the 2019 boxset for cheap so I can droo my screener in it. Agree with your review 100%. I don't mind the blu-ray being keft out because the price of these sets dropped between $4 and $10.each.
Yeah. This might be the cheapest Hardbox Arrow I've seen yet. Great release!
RoBoCop 1 is my favorite movie beside T2
No Best Buy’s near me had it this week, shows as online only. I ended up ordering the standard package last night from Amazon because I heard the Steelbook does not come with the extras - is that true? I remember getting the blu ray steelbook version and it not having extras (I figured it was a second pressing but now I’m not so sure lol)
Steel has 2 discs (same content) and a small booklet compared to the Limited Ed version.
Pretty sure they both have the same extras

I looked around every retailer for Robocop in 4k and none of them had it so I had to order it online at Amazon, 27th arrive date.....so hopefully it'll come sooner

Yeah. I looked and it said 2K Bluray, but that was on the playback. My error.

You mention the old arrow release is a 2k scan. It is a 4k scan restoration. I'm sure you are correct that the 4k uhd looks better though. For me the atmos would be a major upgrade too
Yes. I never owned it, so when I looked it up on Bluray.com I saw the specs said 2K bluray, but that was on the playback. My bad and appreciate you watching!
Still waiting for my 4K steelbook from zavvi. Love steelebooks but don't know if the wait will be worth it.

Man I made the mistake pre-ordering this from Diabolikdvd with Wild Things so it won't ship out until Wild Things is released in May since they ship the whole order together.

@@midlevelmedia Lol. Actually Ken I did notice some continuity errors when watching the 4K. In the chase scene at the beginning the front windshield of the police car doesn’t know if it wants to be shattered or not.
Bought the same version when it came out on blu-ray and no point in getting the 4K.

Sigh... got the 4K steel tried to watch it today. After watching Spider-Man: No Way Home last night the rechargeable battery for my X-Box controller seems to have died, so I'm 4k less till tomorrow when I can get that under control.

Just FYI the ROBOCOP 2014 Steelbook is the 1987 movie. Not the 2014 which can be seen on TBS. It was okay but missing all of the commercial spoofs

I actually think the hard box looks better than the steel. Hopefully it sticks around a while because I have heavy metal and the batman steel on pre order. I can't convince myself to spend another 30 on a movie lol. Looks fantastic though
That Heavy Metal steelbook got me suffering a bit of FOMO too. I don't actually own either movie, so to get it like this new release would be great.

But I thought it looked really nice and I actually haven't seen either of the heavy metals yet but have been wanting to. Knowing it comes with the sequel made it a bit more worth imo

Heavy Metal is an amazing adult cartoon with an awesome little documentary on how the movie came to be, so this set would have to include something really special that the one I have doesn't.
If you don't already own it, pick it up. As mentioned, if this set doesn't include anything amazing, I'd pick up the $10 blu-ray. It's an absolute must-have though.

Yes the theme is great, composed by Basil Poledouris. You should hear the conan the barbarian theme he did, even better than this.

Films at Home says the 4k does not add a lot in video or audio. So I'm opting for the (much!) cheaper blu-ray.
This is my first 4K Arrow film, and it came out faulty, I need to turn my volume up way up. Also some dialogue was missing, it sounds like people laughing or something in the background , where they shoot robocop well before he becomes robocop. Hopefully I can get a replacement
