I am Puerto Rican and lived off beans for most of the time I was with my mom. She never cooked black beans. I'm use to making my black beans from the can with the ingredients you use but I am now purchasing black beans in bags. Thank you for your wonderful presentation and your tips!!!!
I ignored that warning until I bit into a rock after cooking lentils once. Oh man, that is a mistake I'll never make again. But it was an inferior brand. I have never had issues sifting through Goya beans.
I've also never seen a single one in all my years cooking beans. And as a farm girl/ gardener, it's hard to imagine how rocks could get in there, and yet there's a few stories, but it seems really like it's gotta be super rare
Msg is the least of your worries. Sazon Goya uses Yellow 5 and Red 40 which are in fact known to be harmful to us. 😢 but I like how you say that everything is our choice. Love that. I also love how you explain and the video is very helpful. Thank you so much. Please continue to teach us.❤

I was born in Cuba and came over to the USA when I was four years old in the sixties. My Dad’s mom( my grandmother) was an epic Cuban cook and after I reached my forties and lost her, I began to yearn to experience the recipes of my childhood that brought back such great memories as a boy growing up in a tight and loving Cuban family. I found your channel years ago and this Cuban Black Bean recipe became the cornerstone of my repertoire. I’ve seen this video at least a dozen times because I need your guidance on the screen each time I make this ….just for security Lol. Thank you for years of happiness and fond memories you’ve helped to resurrect in my memory. I will say that I omit the sugar ingredient because she didn’t use it but I’m so happy I found you! I can't wait to try your recipe! I just got my first Instant Pot a couple days ago and it's worth it just for beans alone! I first tested it with a very simple recipe, just pinto beans, crushed garlic, rough chopped onions, and salt, and I couldn't believe what came out just ~1 hour later! SOOOO much easier than what I was doing before with soaking all night, simmering for hours, etc.
Finally I found an AUTHENTIC Insta-Pot Cuban Black Bean recipe!!!!!!! Your grandmother's recipe is the exactly the same as my grandmother's. We know it's the REAL THING! Not only is your recipe amazing but you are an excellent communicator. THANK YOU!
I’ve been following along with this video and making this recipe for the past several months. This recipe is amazing. I eat gluten free and organic, when I can, which is really expensive. I started making myself more beans and lentils, which is a way I could bring the cost of organic meals down to under a dollar a meal sometimes. This recipe is my favorite. And I usually have it with tortillas and sour cream. When I’m feeling fancy, I make it with some tostones. Love it. Thank you!

OK, I just made beans from scratch for the first time and followed your recipe........the only thing I did different was no sugar and red bell pepper instead of green and like 8 cloves garlic and these are the best beans I've ever eaten....thank you so much

I love this! I move to Georgia 12yrs ago from Florida and I miss the authentic Cuban food! I eat lots of black beans but haven't found a Cuban recipe that I liked! I also ALWAYS have sazon! I love it! I already have black beans out and making right now! Super great video! You are a good teacher!

I just got my Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus so I'm a newbie. I have tried in on the traditional pressure cooker so this is amazing. I agree her presentation is amazing. I tweaked her recipe a little based on our families recipes. I added aje cachucha, a little tomato paste, vino seco, and culantro. This was my first go around in this pressure cooker and i tried the bean setting but it wasn't enough to soften the black beans. I went and cancelled the settings then went into the manual setting for 30 minutes to test this out and added one more cup of water. Our family likes more of a bean juice so i'll probably mush more that a cup. I can't wait to taste these beans!!

I actually never use any of the presets other than Saute, Sou Vide, and Yogurt. The problem with the modes like Beans or Meat is that it doesn't know what kind of beans or how much or anything. So it's just a guess and usually I find they are off by a lot.
I got a craving for a black bean soup. First video that caught my eye of who I can trust to be a good recipe is this sweet lady with the bag of Goya beans and Sazon lol
this is as good of a compliment as I can give - this recipe matches or exceeds the legendary beans made by my mother in law who resides in Westchester ( Suburb in Miami Dade County )

Just have to say thank you for this demonstration. I am married to a Cuban and when I can I make Black Beans on the stove but as you know it is time consuming. We would have to travel a good 45 min or more to get to a Latin Market where they might sell the Goya or Conchita brand can beans and then on top of that they are almost $ 2.00 a can. I have made other recipes but they never tasted authentic. I like the way you cook. Thanks !!

Really appreciate the detail on this vid. EXTREMELY helpful. Personally, Goya is my least favorite brand of dry beans or seasoning. El Sembrador is better on beans and Badia is better for seasoning. Goya is definitely the best at marketing tho! 😂

Hi Lana, just wanted you to know that I did this beans on the instapot about 4 days ago. They came out delicious. I was used to doing my beans on the regular pressure cooker but I moved, super simplified absolutely everything and got rid of lots of kitchen things…except my instapot…glad i kept it… i dont cook anymore BUT the other day I came across this video and i was like, “hmmm I’ll give that a try” and it came out super delicious… I think I added an extra pack of Sazon…and i had was rice vinegar so i put about 2 tsps of that… and more salt at the end…but it was so easy on the instapot! So thanks. Ps what I’m going to try next is the Picadillo on the instapot… that will be a first for me. Anyway, have a blessed day!

Just have to say thank you for this demonstration. I am married to a Cuban and when I can I make Black Beans on the stove but as you know it is time consuming. We would have to travel a good 45 min or more to get to a Latin Market where they might sell the Goya or Conchita brand can beans and then on top of that they are almost $ 2.00 a can. I have made other recipes but they never tasted authentic. I like the way you cook. Thanks !!

Really appreciate the detail on this vid. EXTREMELY helpful. Personally, Goya is my least favorite brand of dry beans or seasoning. El Sembrador is better on beans and Badia is better for seasoning. Goya is definitely the best at marketing tho! 😂

Hi Lana, just wanted you to know that I did this beans on the instapot about 4 days ago. They came out delicious. I was used to doing my beans on the regular pressure cooker but I moved, super simplified absolutely everything and got rid of lots of kitchen things…except my instapot…glad i kept it… i dont cook anymore BUT the other day I came across this video and i was like, “hmmm I’ll give that a try” and it came out super delicious… I think I added an extra pack of Sazon…and i had was rice vinegar so i put about 2 tsps of that… and more salt at the end…but it was so easy on the instapot! So thanks. Ps what I’m going to try next is the Picadillo on the instapot… that will be a first for me. Anyway, have a blessed day!
