Hi Lilia. These modern-day pressure cookers don't cook with explosive pressure. You shouldn't have any issues. You don't need the bean setting. Just use the Manual/Pressure Cook button and you should be good to go. Make sure it is set to "high" pressure and "normal" temperature (thees are the default settings so it should already be set this way).
Dried black beans, ready to eat in 22 min. Not gonna happen. For the first round I set my IP duo to bean/chili setting of 20 min. Bumped it to 25. Ran it, allowing a 15-20 min natural release and spooned a bit into a bowl to cool and hit into what I expected. Undercooked beans. Added a second 20 min high pressure cooking and 15-20 natural release cycle, tasted again an undercooked black bean. Repeated a third time, and instead of wasting another 20, I forced a quick release at 10. Cooled a spoonful and they were So so.
I wonder if your beans were old? That is an awful lot of time to pressure cook and have them still tough. But I always love seeing when people keep working things until they're tasty! Awesome job!
What if you add less water to the beans then when the beans are cooked you won't have so much water in it Could you advice please if I can add less water?
I personally wouldn't add less water. It's important to have lots of water so the beans can fully soak it up. But you're certainly welcome to try it and see how it goes! Let me know! :)
That's a very long time and they should be soft for sure. Have you checked to make sure yours is set to high pressure? (sometimes as people are playing around with the buttons, it gets accidentally set to low) Also, do you have enough water? The water level should be at least 1 inch above the beans when you put them in dry.
@@Thespicyapron Thank you, yes ... I believe I have enough water. My model Instant Pot is the IP-LUX. I don't think I can change the pressure. Maybe I shouldn't complain, the beans are so delicious ... and the house smells so good when I cook them.

Cooled a spoonful and they were
So so.
I wonder if your beans were old? That is an awful lot of time to pressure cook and have them still tough. But I always love seeing when people keep working things until they're tasty! Awesome job!
My instant pot doesn't have a "beans"setting. Would I still do 22 minutes on high pressure?
Yes, high pressure will be perfect.
@@Thespicyapron thank you! I add one cup less water and it was okay..
How big is your Instapot? How many quarts ?
The one in this video is 3 quarts. I use that and my 6 quart all the time!
Can I do 2 lbs? I have an 8 qt IP.
Am I doing something wrong? I cook them on the manual setting for 75 minutes with a 30 minute release. I tried 60 minuter but they were not soft.
Maybe I shouldn't complain, the beans are so delicious ... and the house smells so good when I cook them.
how many cups of blackbeans is 1 pound?
It's about 2 cups of dried beans.
I don't eat oil, don't even have any in my home... will this work without oil?
Lot's of people say they make the beans without oil and it works just fine. Give it a shot!
you dont eat oil??? understandable for 98% of oils but olive oil has serious health benefits
@@Natganistan Yeah- I'm surprised to read so many "anti-oil" comments on here. I'm not sure what the reason is.
Are the beans gassy?
How long do you cook them if you have soaked the beans?
Thanks…
What happens if we soak and do it same way
They might be overdone. You should reduce the cooking time by 10 min
To avoid gas and not ending up in divorce court, soak your beans for 24 hours before cooking. If you don't, there will be a 4th of July in your bedroom and need to open up your windows!!
"Cook beans in one hour without soaking!" INTRO...... "I have tons and tons of canned beans"😂😂🤣
tomorrow morning .. the goal.
I wish you put measurements in description
because it's hard to take notes ...
@@chriso3580 try being more passive via the internet loser
@@ML-om9nh Funny you think I'm the loser when I carefully watched the video and wrote things down as opposed to asking someone to do it for me. Very entitled ...
@@chriso3580 very passive... Also after seeing your profile pic I get why you are replying to my comment from 2 months ago
You should always soak all beans!
Can you freeze these after they cook?
Definitely! Just squeeze as much air out of the container as you can before freezing. Either use a ziploc freezer bag or a vacuum seal bag!
Always add salt to beans at the end of cooking or they will be tough.
Salting while soaking makes a better tasting and creamier bean.
You can also drink the bean juice.
I recommend saving it and cooling it down and chugging all of it right before:
1. Attending a dinner party.
2. A long meeting at work in a tiny conference room.
3. Taking a final exam in college/high school or a spelling bee in grade school.
4. Job interviews.
5. Weddings (especially if you are the bride or a groomsman).
6. Taking a bunt cake over to a neighbor.
7. Hot Yoga classes.
8. Attending the ballet or a play.
9. Attending a PTA meeting or parent/teacher conference.
10. Offering to help a girlfriend weed her garden.
Oh I forgot dates! Impress your date with the healthiness of your gut biome!
Haha! That's a great reason!
Side note I made the beans - and they were perfect for me at 25 mins. Thanks for the help! sadly I wasted the bean juice but my septic tank will love it!
😜
so weird I've soaked my black beans this time for 2 days and cooked at the 45 mins and they are just hard as heck! Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong!
I have no idea. I can't imagine soaking for 2 days, following the recipe, and not ending up with a bowl of mush! lol! Maybe it's time to try some different beans?
@@Thespicyapron I live in Medellin Colombia we don't have all the choices we have back home. I just ordered a crock pot on amazon because I cant find one here. Yes, oddly enough you are not the only one who says no need to soak. With the normal red beans here we've been soaking 2 days and they look like tiny tomatoes when done and amazing too! Thanks have a great day!
I have heard that old beans will not soften up. Maybe they were in your pantry too long or the grocery store had them too long.
thanks…
