@ Of course. As a priest in seminary we studied this at length. Magic is just a word used to describe other peoples' religious practice at root. The term itself is born of simple prejudice and bias against the Persian magians. Jesus practices magic in the Bible. Why, because everyone was practicing magic, of some form.
@FraterRC Jesus (pbuh) never practiced magic because he was Prophet of God. The reason why these religious buffs are so against magic is because you pray and do rituals to other beings or forces other God alone.
There is also a karmic load one must reconcile when using magic, at least here on earth. You can use it sure but everything isn’t free and without cost. Cause and effect.

This video by Angela offers a compelling perspective, particularly for individuals who view the occult as inherently evil. The section on Aleister Crowley is particularly insightful, as it effectively challenges the simplistic dichotomy of good versus evil. Instead, it emphasizes the distinction between empathy and cruelty, with Crowley asserting that intent is paramount in understanding one’s actions. Many people fail to recognize that the emotions and thoughts they harbor deeply within themselves are, in essence, a form of magic. Raised within the Jesuit tradition, I often felt a profound sense of emptiness, and growing up in the 1980s amidst the so-called Satanic panic, I never could have anticipated that I would one day embrace the practices of the occult. As it turns out, much of what I was taught was based on misinformation. My journey has not been about the destruction of the world or engaging in any form of malevolent activity, as some might assume, but rather, as Crowley put it, it is about self-empowerment through self-knowledge and spiritual growth. Through this path, I have come to recognize the immense power of empathy and compassion. These qualities have brought an overwhelming sense of joy and peace into my life, allowing me to grow in ways I never imagined. I am grateful for the work Angela is doing to illuminate these often misunderstood topics. More people would benefit from deeply engaging in self-exploration. It is, without a doubt, one of the most rewarding journeys one can undertake, and it is accessible to anyone willing to confront their prejudices and fears.
If evil exists it is about imposing your will on others. Thus defining magic as evil is itself evil as are all forms of Evangelism. But that's just my view and it would be evil to impose it on anyone.
@TheMagicofJava well, I can't speak for how God intended us to live, but in fact we are trapped into living under certain constraints very much against our own will. We've made slaves of ourselves.

I do enjoy a discussion about whether the abstract concept of magic can be understood as an abstract concept we call evil. I realise it may be necessary to assume the existance of magic in order to discuss this topic. It's just interesting to conclude the discussion with findings that could equally be applied to magic rather than evil.

You would need to define magic (and by extension what rites do not constitute magic; eg, what distinguises magic from sacrament, if anything?) first and then compare that against the metaphysics, ontology, teleology, and ethics we are assuming first. If you assume all magic stems from demonic activity in an Orthodox Abrahamic framework, it is probably evil. If you assume the definitions of something like Chaos magic under a utilitarian framework, then the results would dictate it. If we assume some of the proposals of groups like Early Modern alchemists, it could be ethically mandatory.
I would say that people get confused about what is evil. In my ponderings, I’ve come to understand that Evil is a verb not a noun. It’s an action not a thing. Yes things/beings/people can be evil but it’s because of their choices and actions within a situation. Like the action murder; it is bad, unless one is in a war or is defending self or another. Evil is a verb; not a noun… evil being understood as a noun has created a lot of destruction and death, which is by definition evil.
I have watched a few videos from the channel (highly informative, and I'm thankful for the opportunity to learn from someone who has made these studies their life's work) but I am not yet convinced that magic/magick is something that affects anything other than the mind and psyche of the practitioner (and certainly can't be considered evil). While these effects are beneficial and often positively transformative, I have yet to see compelling evidence or argument that the material world can be affected in such a way, or that the non-material possesses the agency to act with intention. I would love to be proven otherwise.
🧙♀ (I couldn't find a proper Witch emoji, so I went with "woman mage" instead!) Let's hear it for Enochian cosmetology! (No wonder so many magickians I know absolutely SLAY in the makeup department!) ;)
In summary? I'd say that magick simply is. It's just another part of reality that can be accessed by any trained and dedicated person. However, because of the power structures that exist and their claims to spheres of influence of their community, that would be the only time that concepts of good or evil come into play. In that context, it's less about the fact that you are using the natural tool of magic than that you are using it either without the blessing of the existing ruler/priest classes or for their benefit. Definitions of good or evil therefore are directly linked with how the existing social structure benefits. A good place to look at this tension would be in Susannah Clarke's fantasy novel "Johnathan Strange and Mr. Norrell". An allegory here would be using an electrical switch. In one version, it brings light and warmth into a room where you might sit and read, or prepare a meal. A universally "good" use of the tool, right? In another version of the switch...the voltage passes through a victim and they die. If you are doing this on your own, obviously an "evil" choice, right? But what if that's your job for the State?
In the film, "Libertine" evil has dominated the so-called good of the church which is to say that any and every human being needs to develop the ability to respond to the need for Balance. Otherwise, unbalance force left unattended tends towards things that are not healthy for life. Those who knowingly intend unhealthy unbalance have to be removed from power. That said, accidents happen when those attempting to do good manifest the opposite result and visa versa.
I am a bit torn on this as of recently. Maybe because I believe in the Nephilim story which puts magic in a different light. I think that magic isn’t the providence of Satan so long as your mind is pure and clean.
Magic can be evil. But can be good too. It's like asking "is God evil"... the answer is he is both good and evil, he is everything. Some people find it hard to bring the good of the universe into focus, many people of faith are concerned with focusing on the good and rejecting the evil, but what if the evil is you? Then evil can exist in the person of faith. The power of evil is that one more time in sickness is one more time to immunise yourself against that sickness and become stronger but people struggle with even acknowledging their own evil so it takes over. The adept grow so that they can become attuned to their higher self, the connection to the magic. Most people will barely touch on the power of their higher self, but their higher self is there regardless, giving blood, keeping faith. We are more powerful than we realise.
