I got a new used flute for marching band because I didn’t want to use my nice one outside I did your standard cleaning but it was sooo dirty and even after cleaning it soo much I played with it I legit felt the dust in my throat and had a bad cough for a week. I have to get it professionally cleaned

No harm. But your not supposed to hold middle joint by the keys when cleaning / foot joint as well. Holding it by the Barrel with left hand. Put other end of instrument against chest and with flat micro free cloth and with not to much pressure wipe keys from rods out. Plus being carful not to rub against keys when cleaning tube. Use finger wrapped round cloth to do this. Never use any cloth other than a proper internal gauze cloth for this.Also when cleaning tube with cloth you have to be carful not to rub the pads.

Thanks for the tips! This video is a couple years old, I should probably just make a new one. I appreciate the feedback! I do not clean my flute exactly as I have stated in the video now. Especially since I am the proud owner of a 1976 Powell. :)

my fabric isnt fitting in the flute or the hole in the cleaning rod, but it cane specifically for my rod and flute

You may have to purchase a smaller piece of fabric. But try flattening the tip of the fabric up against the cleaning rod. Don't force anything into your flute though. Not worth having a damaged instrument. I purchase my cleaning cloths from flute4u.com
