The last piece isn't correct. When the property which included the abandoned town was put up for sale there were multiple interested parties and it was by sheer providence that it ended up as it did. In any case the illegal squatters would have been relocated as part of the sales agreement. The FW De Klerk cabinet discussed the option to end Orania but decided that it would self-destruct anyway without government intervention. They resorted to ridicule the Orania project. People used to laugh at Orania, they're not laughing anymore. Lastly, because we are proud of our culture, we greatly enjoy official visits from other cultural groups. To respect and be respected for who you are is a wonderful experience.

Orania is not a racist town - black people who have visited Orania were pleasantly surprised and inspired to build their own communites. The reverse is also true - when white people go to Orania for the wrong reasons they leave disappointed that Orania is not the racist haven they had thought it was.
Its important as South Africans in this day and age to build our communities and not depend on government.

@@seanbryan1739 They're not bad at all. It's got everything to do with preserving the unique culture, heritage, etc. of every race. Each race or ethnic group (Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, Afrikaners, Zulu, Xhosa, etc.) only remains unique when they preserve what makes them specifically them.
That is why many black cultures in SA agree with the concept of Orania. They too would like to preserve their culture and heritage. In fact, Orania is now working with a black culture near them to teach them how to build their own community like Orania where they are independent and free to be what has always made them unique.
If Orania was a racist concept, this cooperation would not happen but it is happening.

Orania isn't a municipality, but some kind of private resort on the territory of the municipality Thembelihle. The body that calls itself "town council" is actually just a board of directors that manages the daily running of the estate. All of this is perfectly legal under South African law.
It is on land privately owned.

This was an excellent, very fair documentary. Can't other groups in South Africa like Zulus try to do something similar? An ethno state of Zulus working very hard together to have a nice, safe, crime free town that promotes positive Zulu Christian values, community - multi cultural societies, multi tribal communities like Rwanda they don't work in an anything goes Democracy where everyone votes their tribe and tries to steal, kill others take what they have.

yes, the fact that the squatters were there illegally, then still received monetary compensation after their land claim in the early 2000s. It was a win for the squatters. Luckily now there are no more land claims to be dealt with in Orania.
The South African constitution guarantees the right to self determination. These Afrikaners are not bothering anyone and basically just want to be left alone, which I do not consider to be an unreasonable request. The Amish here in the US exist with a similar rationale in mind, which I also have no problems with. Such insular living environments are certainly not my cup of tea, but if that is how they want to live then more power to them.
The Amish do not discriminate against race. They were actually abolitionists. The difference is that Orania does- in the homeland of the race that they discriminate against and abused on a significant level, to say the least... this is the mass irony... the level of narcissism is hard to fathom....

He gave various examples where Orania agreed with various black ethnic groups to share their know-how and experience This is because more and more SA black people are beginning to see what a difference a well managed community can make, compared what they are experiencing under the useless ANC government. Those blacks visited Orania and most likely stayed over at the holiday resort that is part of Orania. I have seen many reports of black folks that stayed and attended conferences there.
