The last bit resonated with me, I'm constantly giving up position while passing guard standing just because of drilling/training habits and because I'm confident in my own guard if I get swept. But I should be entering without the need to immediately strip off the grips and hooks I allowed to get through.

I think what he's saying is that the counter is SOO easy and doesn't take quickness or speed that's why it berimbola doesn't work. Like a sprawl needs to be timed correctly, and many defenses requires multiple techniques, but to counter the berimbola you basically only have to sit down and you practically countered the entire position

An attacker that is fixated only on the berimbolo will most likely get shut down. But when you combine a berimbolo with other threats, off balancing your opponent and forcing them to defend between two or more things, then the berimbolo is not easily defensible.

My Professor Samuel Braga is still winning Master worlds using it and everyone knows it is coming. His Berimbolo 2.0 has addressed a lot of the common defenses as well. Thats BJJ, anything, crazy or not, can work on the right time, with the right action and the expected reaction. Not cool to go online trying to say that a technique sucks, instead of showing how it can work and be defended. But y’all definitely should start using the “worm guard” lol
I train at AOJ and have for the last 5 years. Myself and many others at AOJ will disagree with you, oh and both Mendes Brothers would disagree with you. It works!!!!
And when he fought Paulo, what was his defence to the berimbolo? Paulo also won the last time they faced off, even though Keenan is over 20 kg heavier and has more experience
So running your hips away stops the berimbolo, I feel like if you are standing and just keep disengaging at the right time most open guard techniques are shut down... Berimbolo I'm sure is not great BUT if it is the right technique at the right time then it's the right technique... gogoplata isn't great either but I have tapped people with it... tools for the toolbox imo
I have been trying to get into a place in my life where I can go back to bjj. It has been slightly more than a year since my last class and I remember berimbolo’s being huge and everyone was trying to figure out ways to beat it.
I mean this is just silly, you can do a video about any technique in jiu jitsu showing its defences and counters and say they dont work. If it doesnt work how come its still being used? the way you set up your moves is what makes them work, Miyao still hits that berimbolo entry, not as frequently of course. But as any technique, counters get developed, and then counters for those counters. If you only rely on berimbolo of course you will get shut down easily, that just means your guard offense is poor. Again, this just silly, a silly way to promote worm guard, which DOESN'T WORK LOL!

Rafael Mendes said the scramble to a better position like taking the back is the berimbo. Not necessarily the short dela riva. Once u bump em over and scramble in anyway(leg drag, crab ride etc) to get get the back. That's the berimbolo. At least that's what I remember rafa saying.
