Great to see you out in the sunshine , I feel your pain in the heat , this time last week I was in Al Qudra Dubai cycling 50km in the desert in 42 degrees - the worst but was when you opened your mouth to breath it just sucked the moisture from your mouth . But hey what an experience. Where about sun the canaries are you ?
I've been going to Maspolomas for the last few years and we love the ride to Ayagaures on the GC 503 and back on the GC 504 and then do it again the opposite way. It's so scenic and there's a hill called 'Death Hill' on Strava which really hurts. So if you fancy a shorter ride I'd recommend it. We did it in November and are going back in May your lovely video is making me feel that I made the right decision to go back, cheers Katie.
@@bobstephenson8747 It's around 22 miles but beware there are some hills to climb but it's well worth it. Ive done it both ways but prefer riding up the bottom of the valley to Ayagaures, then up the long zig zag hill to the top and back along the High winding road with spectacular views

Great video Katie - Thank You. Gran Canaria was the place I proposed to my wife so its a special place for us. After seeing your video and how awesome the roads look I need to somehow persuade the wife and now two kids (who want to go back to Florida) that its a Brilliant place to go instead - and somehow, casually, take my bike out there and leave them chill by the pool for a couple of hours (or 4!) 😎👍

I'd describe Gran Canaria as an island of Leith Hills with the odd Box hill and Tenerife as an island with a very large Box hill (Teide) with the occasional Leith Hill. GC in particular can be quite brutal and when I was out there I rode with a 36/25 * 11-32. Even Ayagaures which is the easiest climb in GC, the last 2km is something else. The Serenity pass is something special though as is the Soria climb, queen ride though is the Valley of The Tears from San Nicolas. Would recommend white arm/leg sleeves rather than sun cream. I think the GC 500 is still closed as well between Taurito and Mogan. So to get to Mogan (if not staying there) you'll need to get a taxi to take you on the GC1 dropping you off. Or you get on the GC1 at Taurito on your bike and chance it that you don't get nicked by the Spanish fuzz. The road inland from Mogan is the one that leads you to the Serenity climb and the VOTT.

A bad fall plus a cycling death in my family has scared me away from the bike. Recently found Zwift and analyzing the power data has inspired me to learn how to really ride. Cars still scare me but there must be places to cycle without cars on the road, right? For now I’ll stick to Zwift but someday I’ll get back on the road again. Your videos inspire me to try. Can you talk about fear when riding after injury (or even when first starting)? I feel like riding in a group would help but I am slow and don't think I can keep up with local cycling groups. Any advice on how to get started on the road when crippled by fear of getting hurt? Thanks so much for sharing your stories and your heart.
If you go back and watch my vids from a few months ago I had a bad injury from a crash that wasn’t my fault. So I talk a lot about it in those. For me though I can’t live in fear of riding as it gives me so much joy, health and happiness. But it’s up to you and what it means for you
I would recommend riding off-road. A gravel bike or even an old MTB would allow you to avoid roads as much as possible. There are disused railways and bridleways or even forest roads in most areas that you can ride with a suitable bike.
Sound quality is a bit hit and miss in this video Katie. GC is a cycling paradise plus beautiful scenery. Have been trying to get there for the last 5 months but have had to cancel 3 times owing to family commitments. Should be there now for 3 weeks until end of March, but now going 3rd week of April for 2 weeks. So looking forward to it very much. Did you climb up the Pico de las Nieves? I've always had good experiences with Ryanair.

It a pity the coast road is closed for the few year,I’m been going there since 2011,I think..the roads have got very bad now😢just finishing off Xmas here,be back in February March 2023 hopefully
Why I mention touring is because of the planning involved as in the route the distances, how much water you need before you can resupply, food as well, weight you can carry on you particular bike you choose plus your sleeping, change of clothes.It is all in the planning and research but nothing is more rewarding than what you planned is achieved.

Just watched the video which was great, But I wanted to ask you about the headphones for music. For me personally Ive never ridden whilst litening to music and I wanted to know are they any good (i.e can you still hear the music properly whilst cycling, as if you where just sitting at home with them on without any background noises?). For me if I was to listen to music I want to hear just the music and block everything else out, but obviously thats not good for cycling. So would be great to hear your reply, thanks.

Hi Katie. I'm staying in Maspalonas in February with my 15 year old son. He's done 35 mile rides on the IOW. Anything about this sort of intensity you'd recommend on Gran Canaria? Or perhaps it's possible to put our bikes on a bus, or in a taxi?
I use Strava to create routes when I’m away - you can choose distance and whether hilly or flat! Just go to the App and maps then create whatever you fancy :) have an awesome time!! I might be heading over there soon
What do you have to do to pack a hydraulic brake bike - any pressure issues? Those shokz - do they also help with wind noise (I get tinnitus and wear ridiculous furry ear things just for that).
That’s why I prefer rim brakes - simpler to travel with. The Shokz goes outside your ears so you could use ear plugs but then you wouldn’t hear traffic.

Looks like a Bradley Wiggins tribute act. Without the legs. Just wondered if those Shokz did the same job of deflecting the wind. Probably not as they are hard surfaces.
Hi I had questions to ask 1.) Suppose if we riding cycle in London City, can we stop cycle side by road and take 2-3 minutes of break ? or can we stop and wear a jacket ? 2.) Can we wear earphone during riding cycle ?

Yes course - a really good point. The first is being plant-based / vegan. Animal agriculture accounts for up to 18 per cent of global emissions, while aviation accounts for around two per cent. So that’s a HUGE we can all do to reduce emissions. Also having children is a huge impact on the planet - so if you really want to reduce climate change, don’t have kids. Hope that helps. I’m definitely not perfect, and I’m very conscious of my footprint - also that’s why I ride a bike pretty much everywhere I can.

How many hours do you ride pr day? When do you set out in the morning? Do you ever just ride out without a route or a plan?
It’s all on Strava :) I generally plan something unless I know the area well.
