I came across your channel as I was persuaded by a very charming BT salesman to switch from Sky to BT. The offer was brilliant nearly half what I was paying sky. But afterwards I was having doubts. After watching your video I have cancelled my BT order and contacted Sky to uncancel and to negotiate and much better deal. So a big massive thank you for your warning.
I was about to get a BT TV (promotion) 24 month contract. Watching your video made me change my mind about it and I am sure it saved me as well from a lot of aggravation. Thanks for the warning.
Already had bt broadband for 6 months, just added tv to the broadband and thanks to you I noticed they were starting a new 2 year on my broadband so I cancelled
Virgin, BT and Sky wonder whybso many people buy these dodgy firesticks...it's because they're impossible to contact and impossible to deal with. If you want to upgrade you can do it all online, try doing the same for downgrades.
They done the same with me, 4 or 5 months into a 2 year contract I moved home BT reconnected me in my new place about a week after I moved, then I got a letter from BT telling me I've started a new 2 year contract. RIP OFF! Can't wait till it expires in Feb 2024.
Thinking about cancelling my BT broadband / TV packages etc at the moment, just noticed that the contract is that the BT youview box has to be returned at the end of the contract (that does seem odd but if that is the contract that is that) and so all the shows recorded will be lost - doesn't appear to be any info about how much it costs to just buy it outright and keep the box, though I have seen £89 banded about but as with many things BT the info dates from 2022 and not 2024). Hopefully the BT person will be able to clarify that as I have no problem with £89 for a box that I have enjoyed using. Why does BT (as well as many others) make it so hard to cancel (or sneakily renew contracts or rolling contracts) ?
I had to cancel my bt package before the end of my contract as my husband passed away and I was moving away. As I had ended my contract too early they charged me over £900. This was around 18 months ish ago. I was told if I came back within 6 months they would refund me. I still find it hard to believe that they did this. I won’t be going back
Was contemplating joining BT TV after looking at options to upgrade an aging Youview box. BT sound like aggressive sharks. Not touching with a ten foot barge pole. What a shame - their recent youview box wasnt looking too bad, until all the contract traps came into play. I just want to buy a youview box and own it for Freeview channels with a flexible OPTION for paid channels.
WARNING, All BT are trained to be very nice and friendly, but they are corperate sales people on a bonus to get you to sign a one sided contract. It is worded in a way that means they can change the terms in their favour at any time, No solicitor would get you to sign it.
Interesting thought! I'm not sure if the 14 day period applies to a contract restarting, also, I didn't notice it had restarted immediately 😳 But, a good question! Thanks.
@vgh50 It does include the 14 day cooling off period BUT the 14 day cooling off period starts as soon as you place the order regardless if you have received the set top box or not. For example if you sign up to BT Broadband and EE TV on the 10th July but and you receive the equipment and activation date on the 20th July, the 14 days starts on the 10th July and ends on the 24th July, if you cancel after 24th July, you will have to pay a early termination fee. Also if you sign up to a service at the EE/BT retail store, there is no 14 day cooling off period. I once bought a mobile phone contract from the EE store and was told there is no 14 day cooling off period, why? Well because the Distance selling regulations do not apply for this type of sale. Ever wondered why mobile phone shops still exist and why they make so much money? Well its because of this, they want you to shop in store because you cannot cancel
I just spoke to them today - got a tv bt sport deal for under 10 pounds a month on top of my broadband, the guy said 12 months for this even though its normally 24, I asked him and he said yep its 12 months. Got my emails saying welcome to your 24 month contract, I'm going to ring them but if it goes nowhere I am going to cancel within the 14 days.
@@vgh50 Rang them and its 24 months but decided to keep it as they reduced my broadband price by 5 pounds - so essentially its BTTV for 5 pounds 'I just want the sport and champions league' I don't want to be a conspiracy theorist here but I had an idea that they could do, if they reduce your sped drastically 6 months before the contract ends - it would push the customer to ring BT, they then offer a faster speed for little to no charge to sort the issue, then your 2 year contract reestarts with the new changes (how to keep a customer).
I just cancelled my BT essentials package as never used it and they want the box back, cheeky but it is in their rules. will send it back as everything is on demand now anyway

Hi Ann, so happy I was able to help and definitely the right choice. Sky isn't perfect, but it's a million times better than BT.

So happy to read this! Delighted to have helped, even in just a small way. You're welcome 👍

They are sneaky! Nice one, glad to help.
Seemingly changing anything seems to generate yet another 24 month contract, had that with BT before ... very poor practice.

That's absolutely disgraceful, BT are no better than criminals. So sorry you had such a bad experience, especially at such a difficult time.

can you not just cancel within the 14 day period of the NEW contract to get out of paying the ridiculous termination fee?

Bt they wanted to charge me £777 to end my contract but there was problems with the service
Hope you've got out of your contract and sorted everything out. If you haven't already, do make a formal written complaint. Good luck!
