The Fallout4 version of Boston is not only fun, large, and full of life, but also surprisingly not entirely inaccurate.

Yep!! I was, based on spending a couple weeks there getting around entirely by walking and public transit, able to navigate to major landmarks and even find a fairly accurate representation of the housing projects my cousin lived in during college, using only landmarks. Bananas impressive map design, and a VAST improvement over the nonsense that was Fallout 3's wildly inconsistently sized/spaced DC.

When I was first playing the game, I wanted to get the Intelligence bobblehead ASAP. I checked the wiki, saw it was at the Boston Public Library, but I didn't click the link for that location. I wanted to avoid spoilers, and for all I knew the wiki would say "Here's where the climactic finale of the game happens, where beloved character so-and-so betrays you" or something like that. (My brother had it spoiled that a certain character was a synth by checking their wiki page.)
So I went onto Google Maps and searched for "Boston Public Library", which returned 3 hits. I used the river and Fenway Park as landmarks and checked the three locations, and the third one was the correct in-game location!

Stellaris. The "Impossible Run" was arguably the best and most dramatic series Jon's ever done. The desperate attempts to hold the line against an impossibly superior foe, the re-thinking the entire strategy when that failed... brilliant! I could watch it again and again.

Yeah it will. Unless he's gonna pull the rug deliberatley, but he's a straightforward guy. Much like Nerdcubed saying JC4 is his fav game before making his official list and surprise JC4 is #1. It's still interesting to see the rest of the list in either case. I'm interested to see what Jon sticks at 2 and 3 for example (possibly Fallout 3 and a Total War).
Also I bet he'll do a joke "#1 is Gollum" at first for the lols, it's hard to resist.

    • @mephistophelicpierogi
      @mephistophelicpierogi Месяц назад +1

@@garmtpug That is such an unusual thought to me. I spent three years there as a child, so I was impressed with how well the developers captured just how empty that part of the world actually is. How much driving one can do while seeing not a wink of civilization. It never occurred to me that someone could consider that boring. I guess I can see how it would be, considering how unplayable that game would become if not for Fast Travel.
I suppose the reason why I loved NV so much, was because of FO3 and that being my favorite game of all time for a year or two. NV made the experience so much better by offering a lot more area to explore, especially the DLCs. The ability to play again but as a different faction to get a different perspective of the plot.
But if I had never played FO3, I am not sure I would have NV to be a very interesting game. There is just so much walking, and until you trigger Act 2 it really feels like a grind.
After 1000 odd hours, NV does not strike my fancy much anymore. I play 4 if I have the itch to play a Fallout game. I just really enjoy collecting junk. 😆

Configure one enemy simulant at 'Perfect' difficulty and join a set of 7 other simulants all at 'Meat' difficulty. Now your job is to try to prevent the enemy from scoring point out of your weak stupid allies. Or fight againts 8 Perfect that are configured for melee only attacks.... ouch that's tough (and funny to play).

Finally catching up on this list to see what showed up on it, when I saw it coming out originally I was going to hop in the comments joking about being disappointed about no Diablo 2, Total Annihilation or Perfect Dark... honestly surprised PD showed up in the list, though it deserves to be in anyone's top games list.
It was way ahead of its time and far better than it had any right to be. A compelling campaign, a lovable 'Merikan flag wearing alien friend, smooth gunplay, a good selection of weapons each with an alternate and often vastly different firing mode, good number of maps, different types of AI with different characteristics that were somehow even more competent than many AI in modern games, difficult game and firing range challenges to unlock things, an awesome little hovering box you could carry around and use as a ballistic shield... I don't understand how it managed to work at all, let alone so well on an N64. Then it was followed up with the dumpster fire that was PDZ... I'm glad RARE never made an FPS game after that. And hopefully the reboot from The Initiative lives up to the original, if it ever comes out. This game deserves a sequel.

The entire advance wars series is a treasure. Though I personally think DC is the best mechanically 2 is definitely the heart of the series for most people. If I had to catalogue my hours for every game Dark Conflict on DS would be the highest and it wouldn't even be close. They're games that can be played forever

I discovered LA Noir very recently, as I was well on my way to becoming a grumpy old man, and I absolutely agree that it was one of the finest games I have ever played. But let's be honest, the driving mechanic was horrendous! The fact that you could not, under any conceivable conditions, blend in with NPC traffic really hurt the immersion for me, and the fact that there was no minimap or useful guidance mechanic made driving really confusing and frustrating. Sure, the chases were fun, but most of the driving you did was not that.

I think Fallout 4 is my most played game too, even though I prefer the narrative complexity of New Vegas, it’s exploration factor doesn’t even come close to 4. Plus building stuff is fun and adds to replay value, though admittedly mods are pretty much mandatory to round out the settlement system…

Given how much Jon talks about Blood Money and Hitman general I was sure it would be in the top 10 for sure, kinda shocked now lol, as for the mood, even without playing it much myself (I've seen way more BM on RUclips) the mood, stakes, pacing etc. are way different in BM vs WOA, BM has that almost scary ambiance of the early games.

I'll still never understand people who say that to this day Wind Waker is a bad looking game, it still looks amazing on the original GameCube now for Christ sake.
I've seen such baffling complaints as "But it's mostly ocean" and...what does that even mean, it's a game about sailing across an ocean and exploring...OF COURSE IT'S MOSTLY OCEAN.
Alongside that I've heard many complain about how it "takes too long to get anywhere" and you can tell that either they didn't play the game or they somehow completely missed the melody that lets you freaking teleport anywhere on the map you've already been to. It annoys me when people make complaints like that about games when they also hold other games with similar "issues" in high regard like how in Ocarina of Time you'll find yourself having to constantly go back and forth through time just to check whether or not you can progress one way or the other, which can be a pain in the ass.
