  • Aisling Franciosi & Sam Claflin are interviewed for their movie The Nightingale, written & directed by Jennifer Kent.
During the interview, they discuss the challenges of making such a difficult movie, with such hard subject matter, how it was handled and how it feels when a director takes a 'punt' on you.
Plot: Set in 1825, Clare, a young Irish convict woman, chases a British officer through the rugged Tasmanian wilderness, bent on revenge for a terrible act of violence he committed against her family. On the way she enlists the services of an Aboriginal tracker named Billy, who is also marked by trauma from his own violence-filled past.

Such tough tough roles to play. Almost the acting equivalent of a kind of ultra marathon or something. For both of them. Heres hoping they have since recovered and are ready to take on new challenges. I will certainly be looking for them in whatever they choose to do next and of course cant wait for Kent's next project.

A trick: you can watch series on Flixzone. I've been using it for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.

It took me forever to watch the entire thing. I've started it like 3 times and just couldn't sit through it but I've finally finished it on like the 4th try and I'm glad I did. It's so good but probably the hardest movie I've ever watched.

I watched it all without realizing at the start what it was about, annnnnd then I realized. But it was a good movie wasn’t it. I found myself horrified and saddened at times, and in others it was so grotesquely beautiful that I just had to buck up and watch the thing in one go and the watch it again.

@@wynterfir It really was good. I just had a very difficult time emotionally watching it because of things from my past so that's what made it really hard to get through. But it really was beautifully grotesque as you said.

@@julia-eu8xo Yeah I get how people would feel uncomfortable watching it because of past traumas like rape or the loss of a child, but I also feel like its a really good thing to watch because it touches on those subjects. It may give a tiny glimpse at the trauma a person had experienced and help you better sympathize with someone who’s had a trauma such as that because we watch Claire go through it almost all by herself. It could also be considered a source of discussion between the countries whom this affected. Because the shit that happened in the movie was actually some of the things England was doing. So now that the history of that time is more widely spread people may stop looking at England as if it is a paragon of greatness like modern media will have us think.
