    Claflin was so good in this role. I found my self viscerally hating him more and more throughout watching the movie lol. I loved this film. Franciosi was the standout but Claflin was on her level as well. Outstandingly brilliant film.

      By Claflin stating that he just became a father when he read the script (I have a daughter, so my hatred was distinctly for Weaving who played the Ensign), I think he knew what he had to channel to play that part. Claflin was a great antagonist, but your right, Franciosi stole the show., completely!

    You can tell how uncomfortable Sam is with his character which is what makes his performance so brilliant. That despite his discomfort, he still went to those dark places. This must have been such a difficult role to play.

    This film is stunning. Yes it's tough at times, especially the scene near the beginning, but I don't think too much for people to handle. Especially now that it's garnered so much controversy. I understand why, but I think it was entirely necessary for viewers to understand what it was like in those times. Outstanding achievement from Jennifer Kent, and beautifully acted by all the cast. The ending was mesmeric.

    I've just watched the movie and the "cabim scene" is exactly what Aisling said. It's not nearly as graphic or violent as people made it to be. It's the fact that, unlike other far more violent movies, Nightingale makes you feel stuff you don't want to feel volutarily. It's the fact that it's not horror or action...it's realism, it's history.
    Besides, for me, the scenes with the aboriginees were far worse

    • @rainrahman4024

      It may sound harsh, but it's the numbers for me that makes it worst...cabin scene had one woman and one baby, she suffered for several minutes and the baby died fast, despite the savage nature of it's death...it's never a question of race, age, gender or whatever...it's many over few

    5:46 - This reminds me of the reaction to Pasolini's Salò. While there are a few minutes with some abnormally stomach-churning imagery (which I won't spoil, but a Google search will tell you), most of it is no more graphic than plenty of other mainstream films. What makes it so brutal is that it depicts extreme cruelty and forces its viewers to confront it. The same may be said of Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave.

      Good point, and I was disappointed that Jennifer was getting so much criticism for the violence. She put much effort into the authenticity of the film, and (unfortunately) ruthless men using their power against the vulnerable like this was all too accurate. It was horrific to watch, but it wasn’t done in an exploitative way that I see in other films. It was important to show audiences the brutality of things that actually happened in this time/place. I had to skip over a few parts I read about before watching, and instead tried to focus on the strength of both Clare and Billy for moving forward to do what they needed to do in order to give their awful tragedies some peace.

    I just watched it today and it is so painful that I could hardly watch the rape scenes without keeping the volume down or putting up my fingers. I'm pretty sure when Aisling Franciosi mentions a film with a violent last scene that people laughed at that it was Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. Tarantino does infuse violence with a lot of pleasure and this is one of those where you can't get too much pleasure or amusement because it's showing the reality of violence and abuse in the world. Even when Clare bashes the really wussy soldier to death, it's not that pleasurable as it is horrific at showing how far she'll go on a guy who killed her baby but is still pretty helpless and afraid in that moment.

    Wat an extremely disturbing story,but the even more tragic thing is that its all a real account of wat happened in this disturbing world,something that I feel ashamed been a white male,brilliantly acted portraying a real life account of this part of Australian history,the thing is we are all brothers&sisters world wide and been a true believer in Christ have a hope of a world one say as the bible states there will be pain no more sickness no more death no more the former things have passed away wat a wonderful world this will be when everything will live in harmony with each other

    I really like Sam Clafin and I feel better knowing that he felt this role was just beyond his comfort zone. I wonder if Mr. Hammer would say the same?

    I have to disagree on the point 'people do research these days'. Me and a sole friends don't like to know anything about Films we watch beforehand. I don't even like to watch Trailers, because there are often to much shown. Of cause sometimes you hear about a Film and then watch it. But not all people do research. I don't know any Person who does this. Trailer watching yes, but thats it. So i think it is important for a lot of Films and for protection, to put Warnings in the behinning. You can read it or skip it. But to put all responsibility to the person. Just NO

      @Lord Farquaad It would be incredibly rude and detrimental to the film's publicity to ask him to shut up. I also thought it was rude of him to monopolize the conversation. However, that doesn't mean she dislikes him. Another reason she could have thatbody language is the seats being unconfortable or her being annoyed at the monopolization, which dosn't automatically means she dislikes him, it could mean she's annoyed and gonna adress it after and in private.

    Just watched this last night on Netflix. I don’t understand why the world should allow people to see this movie, it’s very cruelty including rapping, killing baby and child . It was made from some carelessness Australian. I think the government from every countries should not allowed young children to see this movie

    • @rp3804
      @rp3804 3 года назад

      Why would anyone take a young child to see it? It is rated ''R" for a reason. Also, I have endured something similar with domestic violence. The effects are raw, painful, brutal, and long lasting.

    This movie really didn't need all those rape scenes in them I know what rape is I don't need to see it up close and personal besides as a fit woman I take great offense to rape scenes especially ones that are forcible I'm pretty sure myself and many other women could fight off men psysically but in most movies they portrayed women as weak and unable to stop a man wich in my opinion is complete bullshit

    • @anyarhiness

      You absolutely stupid idiot.
      1. No you are not fit so do not fucking flatter yourself.
      2. No you couldn’t. If a strong man hits you and forces himself of you, you would be numb and shut down
      3. Grow up. These scenes had to be shown, it had to be disturbing. If you can’t deal with it then don’t fucking watch.
      4. You are missing every single point and stop throwing that man hating feminism about

    • @Michelle-wp3jl
      @Michelle-wp3jl 4 года назад

      You clearly have “NO” idea just how incredibly strong women had to be in those days, especially here in Australia on a daily basis just to survive the poverty, the isolation & the extreme environment. Your physical fitness would be well tested. Physical fitness in those days came from a place of mental & emotional stamina on a scale you could never even dream of......& that’s without having to go through being raped.
