Very impressed when I tested it. So much so that I have ordered one. I like refinement both in town and on the motorway, this car faired very well at both. Having my first hybrid will be both fascinating and hopefully economical too. I'm really looking forward to it!
I think it's a fantastic car. It has all the virtues of a hybrid (electric running in the city, auto gearbox, long-lasting brakes etc.) without shouting from the rooftops like the Prius. Nicely reviewed. I've added this one to my new car shortlist ......
This is by far the best review of the Niro I've seen. It seems to be a great car, it's just a shame they couldn't have made it as good looking as the Sportage.
Gorgeous looking car inside and out. 64mpg isn't too bad either, would make a great car for just pottering around and inner-city driving. Great review by the way
I'll be having one for my company car very soon. The "2" has BIK index of just £55/month, compared to my previous company car, a Honda Civic costing £145/month. I had the first series Kai Soul, very well assembled and solid build. My favourite feature is the Sat Nav can link to the hybrid drive, so if it knows there's a downhill ahead to recharge, it will use up electric torque getting there
Good Review, I have the hybrid Ioniq but looking at the Niro now. Kia / Hyundai are coming on very well. They just need to replace the foot operated parking brake with an electronic auto hold switch, drop down (reversing) and auto dimming at night side mirrors for a premium touch. TSFI (turbo & supercharged) like VW would be great.
impressive, a nice mpg , spacious, an suv, it has all i want,, a v good effort. the less famous companies are bringing good innovations,, got happy to see this,, a v good review
The 2018 mdel has a combined hybrid/LV battery under the rear seat - so boot space improves as that protrusion on the right hand side, which is the LV battery, disappears. By the way, UK gets a "tyre repair kit" - Spain (and other EU countries?) gets a spacesaver tyre. I'm getting 10% improvement in fuel consumption compared to a Toyota Auris hybrid - and the dual-clutch gearbox is quieter than the CVT one in Toyotas.
Nice car. I'm driving a purely electric van at work, which is great, all apart from the range anxiety on days when I have further to travel. This is one of the few hybrids on the market that really appeals to me.
Cool Nicholas, how many miles do you get out of a full charge in the van? Does it struggle if the back is fully loaded? The Niro is great too, efficient and classy!
Thanks Jay. Yeah great car, great performance and classy interior. Give us a call and we can set test drives up on both for you mate www.carkeys.co.uk/contact-us?ckytc
Hi David, I looked at one of these today so obviously interested to hear your thoughts that have one two years on. Is the battery still performing ? How much saving do you think you have made per annum vs the offset cost of the car ?
Tough choice Mel, you could give our team a call for some help finding the right one for you, they can also help set up some test drives for you, www.carkeys.co.uk/contact-us?ckytc
I think in 10 years there will be more hybrids offered from at least each and every car brand and Nido will blend in nicely, if you think 20 years has passed since Toyota launched the first Prius, the next 20 years will be not like the last.
Kia and Hyundai are light years ahead of European cars simply because Europe's addiction to diesel. During a recent visit to Europe, i noticed a lair of diesel soot covering parked cars, I had never seen the like before. Time for Europe to switch to hybrid
for a crossover, the mpg is impressing, astounding even. The only thing holding me back is a lack of awd, and maybe the unsafely low vehicle weight. I prefer cars 4000 lb +. 1500 kg in an accident is like running your bicycle head on into a motorcycle. physics and all that, if you know it, tells us the heavier object is safer to occupy.
I have watched a load of videos on the Kia Hybrid, but I do wonder what will happen in 15 years time when ALL petrol and diesel vehicles will be removed from the roads of Great Britain. Yes I can understand getting rid of smelly buses and lorries, but surely the hybrid must be given at least a few extra years over and above the rest as its emissions are a lot less than a standard vehicle. Thought of coarse America, China and Russia will continue to use petrol and diesel vehicled until they pollute the earth and the people all die. But of course, we in Britain will have clean air for a short time.

I am wondering what are your thoughts about the Niro after 12 months of ownership?

Thank you very much Feudel. Be sure to give us a call to try help you save some money news.carkeys.co.uk/Kia-Niro-Help ;-)
Did you buy the Niro? What ere your thoughts and impressions about it now?
The Niro is quite an achievement. Why follow the herd, go hybrid if mostly city driving.
This is by far the best review of the Niro I've seen. It seems to be a great car, it's just a shame they couldn't have made it as good looking as the Sportage.
Gorgeous looking car inside and out. 64mpg isn't too bad either, would make a great car for just pottering around and inner-city driving. Great review by the way
Another really good review, thank you. I am pleasantly surprised that you achieved 69mpg on the motorway run; I think that is brilliant.

might have found my next car. The Ssangyong tivoli is also on that list

We just made a decision to buy the Niro. Can't wait for it :D

Nice - impressed with rear space and build quality.

Interesting that you took the Niro on a long motorway drive. How was it on the motorway? Short of power?
i like the look of the car just worried about mpg how easy is it to get good mpg or do we have to drive like snails ty
How does it crank the engine when its rolling in ev? Starter motor or just engage clutch?
You don't need to do anything - the computer decides - whether it runs in EV, ICE or combination
Old post, but seeing as the actual question was never answered......it has a belt driven starter/generator.
Could be time to trade in my Prius!
Thanks for the very informative review. I like this car!
Brilliant! 69mpg? wow!
Nice review. I love the Niro but I also love the Ioniq. I'll probably have to test drive both to see which one is best for me.
Thanks Jay. Yeah great car, great performance and classy interior. Give us a call and we can set test drives up on both for you mate www.carkeys.co.uk/contact-us?ckytc

I'd get one on friday when I win the lottery.

waiting for the plug-in hybrid version
Yes that's not a bad idea Lars.
I'm wondering when that will come here to the States. I'm also looking at the Hyundai Ioniq. Same internals, pretty much.
Where's Andy?
11.1 sec to 100 km isn't fast at all, a similar powered (136 hp) petrol or even diesel is around 2 sec faster
Any word on the stereo? Is it average? Good? Very good?
Where was this filmed?
Newsham Park in Liverpool, Phil.
2:41 - 2:44 Adorable!
Test drove one great car all round
Another great car from KIA. None of the competitors can explain away their 3 year warranties either

haha well done WARP stabilizer!
