Manuals are all about drivers enjoying life When the manuals are gone, so is a major part of a car's appeal Manuals make the world a better place. Faster doesn't mean better.
I have a 2004 3.2S 6 speed manual with 29k miles. I upgraded the IMS bearing with an EPS replacement so I can drive it without worry. In most conditions it still has all the performance you need, particularly on the highway. The simplicity of it is the attraction more than all out speed.
I traded in a 2005 3.2S with 140,000 miles, which I put on. Got a 981 Spyder with 10,000 miles. Values have gone up in the 6 months I’ve owned this beauty, draws comments every time I park.
This car drives better than a 911. It sounds better too. (4.0 litre flat six compared to 3.0 turbo in the 911) For those in doubt, please go test drive one.
I love Porsche as brand, but come on 100k with HID headlights and no passive entry standard? When you said that car stickers for 100k I was astonished it doesn't look that much more than a base Boxter
Steve, did you happen to capture any audio from inside the car when it rained? Always wondered about the experience of driving a convertible top up in the rain, esp if the top is insulated.
How was the audio without the Bose? Do you think this GTS $100k car is that much better than a loaded GT Miata for $35k. Just wondering as it’s like 3x as much money!!
I have seen this comparison in the comments on a number car videos on YTube, people asking about the MX-5 and how it compares to the Cayman/Boxster. I’m always a bit perplexed why they are even compared to each other, perhaps because some people want to believe or hope they can get the “Porsche experience” in a much cheaper car? - I own a 2019 Cayman and a 2021 MX-5 RF Club and they are very different cars and each gives their own different experience. You can’t compare them because they’re not the same and while I enjoy both of them, part of the reason is because they are dissimilar to each other.
@@blueberrycobbler - I’ve owned a Porsche and the MX-5 In both soft top and the PRHT. Comparisons are ok because they are roadsters and the Cayman is basically a Hard top Boxster. Yes one is a luxury car v.a budget one so the level of refinement or quality is different. However as you know, the Miata is a great sports car with superb engineering and design. The Porsche is considered a luxury version. I love both the Cayman and the Miata and I could see having both as well. If you’re on a budget the Miata provides just as much fun as either the Boxster or Cayman IMO.
Cabriolet has come to mean the generic equivalent of the word convertible for the uninitiated. Porsche knows the difference. They named their more touring focus convertible, the 911 cabriolet (meaning four seat convertible). Just google difference between Roadster vs. cabriolet, and you will get the more technical answer. All Cabriolets and Roadsters are convertibles, but they're not equivalent to each other. The difference is the number of seats, and the intended focus of the vehicle as in sports car or more usable daily tourer. Steve, I started driving in 1971, when British and Italian roadsters were in vogue, but what americans bought was the convertible Corvette. And IT, was a roadster, not cabriolet.
I have a 718 with a key. I like the key-such as it is. Not really a key but a keyless fob that goes into the dash. Used to have a 2016 GTI Autobahn with keyless entry and I really don’t miss it.
@@stevehammes Not really. I thought that I would but I just like the feel of the fob and the only inconvenience is after I’ve gotten into the car, sitting down and realize that it’s in my pocket. That’s a pain.
That color Aventurine green goes very well with the red leather interior and the red convertible top. With that interior in gray alcantara it loses many points.
@@stevehammes You said it is small and it isn't. A Miata, an Elise and even an Exige are small. A couple of other cars are also smaller. This Porsche is slightly smaller than a 911 or a BMW Z4, but that doesn´t make it small. The larger the car, the less fun on not so big roads.

Faster doesn't mean better.
That’s often true.
Thank you Steve. Not only for providing us with an informative car review but also allowing us to feel how it's actually like to drive.
Thanks, man! Glad that was conveyed in the video.
Love that car! Great color too!
The true DNA of any sports car, a manual transmission, thanks Porsche.
Only Hammes can shoot a good review of a convertible in pouring rain.
Ha!! That was nearly disastrous. But the show must go on!
Steve, you're the only car reviewer today that didn't talk about the Ford Maverick.
I made a Twitter post. Does that count? 😂
@@stevehammes OK , that will count. I'll predict you'll do one of those preview videos.
Finally a review who got the colour right!
It’s a weird color. Not sure it would be my first choice. Definitely unique.
@@stevehammes I just love that color. That and the matt black or grey. Each person has a different taste I feel

I just ordered a Boxster 718 2022.....I can't wait to receive it!!
How long to wait for a factory order?

Currently number 2 on the list for a GTS manual in Carmine Red.
Looks like an awesome car!
The GTS (Guten Tag Stuttgart/Steve) truly lives up to its initials!
9.2 Boxes of Bratwurst/10
And hey, I'm German so this works.

Great video Steve! BTW, Aventurine Green paint definitely "requires" the black brake calipers over the standard red ones...
So cool. Very nice. Would love to own that little beauty.

You honestly have to drive the car to get the full experience of why it cost so much. But it's definitely isn't for everyone.
@@robertrogers7833 definitely, Porsche is an enthusiast brand. They never cared about being value conscious

Much quieter than expected. That roof insulation is robust.
We are waiting for the Nissan Z! Also a great car.
Will likely be my next car when I move on from my 981S. That car still doesn’t sound as good as the 981 series though. Damn regulations.

When are u doing the Mercedes benz c class 2021 model???
Not sure. Hopefully soon.
Boxsters are technically roadsters, not cabriolets. A Cabriolet is technically a four seater convertible, ie. 911 Cabriolet. Nice review nonetheless.
Funny how Porsche refers to it as a cabriolet on their retail site, isn’t it?

The 718 Boxster is not a cabriolet. A cabriolet is a 4 seat convertible. Learn your terminology.
Porsche categorizes all their convertibles as cabriolets, so…
I love Porsche, but this one still has less torque and hp than much older Chevy Corvettes. Just a darn shame.
