I love your funky cover, Robyn. I remember being surprised that this tune has been around since the 50's, since I was more familiar with the They Might be Giants version.
Fun fact: the song was written in 1953, exactly 500 years after Constantinople fell and became Istanbul in 1453. What's even funnier, despite this, a lot of Europeans kept calling it Constantinople well into the XXth century, so at some point it almost felt like a city with 2 names: eastern and western one.
If you think that’s surprising, it was written as a response to a song written in the 1920s called C-O-N-s-t-a-n-o-p-l-e
My dad was in The Four Lads, who had the original hit with this song. Great Job!

I have no idea what the writers of the song were thinking, but you sometimes hear Turks say Istanbul, not Constaniople, and it's not even gaslighting, it's just "we took your city, in your face." This song is fun but yes it reminds me of pretty ugly stuff.
