Live From Here with Chris Thile is the modern variety show, broadcast on public radio stations across the country. Each week, you’ll hear the best in music, comedy, theatre and more. With a world-class house band and fantastic special guests - from longtime favorites to exciting new voices - it’s something you just have to see for yourself! Развлечения
Imagine having to play the same song for 35 years, but you still have fun playing it every time.
If they didn’t have fun every time they would hate the song, and that would be a shame
If you made an investment and it provides you income for 35 years you would love it i guess
So Istanbul (not constanople) was first sang by The Four Lads in the fiftys, and it's a little slower, but if you speed it up by 1.25 by using three dots in top corner it sounds almost the exact same
kurt couldnt do it
They're all Canadian. It's fine, they live for this shit
These lads made the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse theme song so they deserve all the love and praise
whaaaat. That blows my mind.
@@MrJellyton They also did music for Malcom in the Middle, The Oblongs, Higglytown Heroes, Resident Life, songs for The Simpsons, Home Movies, Dexter's Laboratory, and Courage the Cowardly Dog.
The Mickey Mouse Hot Dog song too
No, that was Barenaked Ladies.
@@MrCanoeheadful BBT theme song by barenaked ladies... Hopefully there will never be a crossover album they might be giant barenaked ladies.
Always nice to see TMBG playing for people who aren't TMBG fans.
Everyone is a TMBG fan, it's just a matter of whether or not they've heard TMBG's songs
And kill, right? :D

How is the audience not going crazy?! They are all standing there like they have never heard this song before!
Maybe because it doesn’t as good as the recording sadly
I was there! They played particle man afterwards off the air!
I hope someone recorded it!
Particle man is their best song. IMO
No one has commented on “please rise for our national anthem” which is damn right
Sinatra used to say the same for My Way and nobody commented on it
I thought their anthem was Pencil Rain.
@@KenNickels false, their anthem is "clap your hands"
Damn right it is
The first time I heard this was on tiny toons. Loved it then, still love it now.
Me too...
i remember that. the music video was shown on liquid television on MTV too
Fucking same
First time I heard this was on Just Dance...
same and forgot about it until The Umbrella Academy
Awww I love Istanbul and Turkey ❤️❤️

I'm always amazed at how beautiful brass can be when virtuosically-played.
Brass is the best. So versatile. So emotional. So beautiful.
TMBG's current tour has a 3-piece horn section which is absolutely beautiful to watch in action.
This song was originally performed by the Four Lads in 1953, the 500th anniversary of the Ottoman attack and siege of Constantinople from the East Roman Byzantines.
29 May 1953 is the date of golden age of İstanbul started. Ayasofya was reborn with Ottoman Empire. There were numerous attacks FROM WESTERN to İstanbul and its monumental buildings in the reign of Romans. So they were about to collapse. With Ottoman reign, Ayasofya and İstanbul came back to life. Everything with artistic value was carefully repaired and preserved by Fatih Sultan Mehmet, the Turkish Emperor. Even the folks of Romans were waiting for the New ruler.

This is barely-controlled chaos, AND I LOVE IT. What a treat to have TMBG on the show :D
The energy of the trumpet/trombone player is astonishing. Man plays better with one hand than any of the trumpet players in my schools band

After all these years, I still don't know if they really are giants or not. I know it's clear that they might be.
They might be fog, they might be snow, they might be something else in the snow?
They might be crazy?
Or might they?
Who's They May Be Giants? Look in the paper; don't blame me if the guy's a nut.
@@michaelwalsh6276 That's true, but they also might be brained, or they might be washed, and it's even possible that they're Dr Spock's backup band.
This is the definition of enjoying yourself onstage
Nothing like having a tough day, getting in my truck to head home, and NPR has They Might Be Giants as their guest. Ahhh, all is right in the world again.
“All is right in the world again” this did not age well.
holy crap! that dude is one hell of a horn player! amazing!
Curt Ramm IS an exceptional player. He usually plays with Bruce Springsteen (and is currently on tour with him), but TMBG borrowed him for a few years. Here's a fine performance of Curt's with Bruce:
ruclips.net/video/4n1GT-VjjVs/видео.html
That solo is legitimately goals holy shit
Good Lord, what fun. I don't know what I was expecting, I guess a bunch of guys who met their heyday a long time ago halfheartedly jamming out to hits long past their popularity. Instead I got a bunch of dudes have a fucking blast on stage doing whatever came naturally. The vibe they set on stage is amazing.
this is so chaotic i love it
Why did Constantinople get the works?
Because it's fortifications were out of date and not built to withstand modern 15th century gunnery
That's nobody business but the Turks
@@draculauraeses9525 Perhaps Christopher Bacon is the Turks.
Actually they held out with for many months with a vastly outnumbered force. THe Turks almost gave up even with the aid of over 60 smaller cannon and one large cannon able to hurl 1500lb stones at the walls. If Europe had sent help it would have never fallen. Mehmed sacrificed a lot of lives on those walls.
@@ryang1926 contantinople has the best wall in history. atilla the hun, mongol, arab cannot even scratch it. middle age or medieval era weaponry cannot do shit. it need superweapon big cannon to destroyed it. the most advance weaponry in the world nothing have ever seen before in that era. that is why the fall of constantinople is the start of modern era according to many historian. it is really a big deal.
Ryan G Do you have any idea what Mehmed did to stop help from Europe. Of course you don’t. Ignorances is bliss.
Hard to believe that they're in their 60s (technically 59 and 60)
They're like 50 but with more practice.
I was today years old when I found out they might be giants is a real band.
I saw them open for a unappreciative Hootie and the Blowfish crowd in Champaign Illinois. I won the tickets from Rock 106 in Peoria by singing Pearl Jam on the radio. I wish I could go back and rewatch it! TMBG rules!
ChainsGoldMask Anyone who is willingly in a Hootie and the Blowfish crowd is unappreciative of music in general.
Where was that show? Loved going to concerts all over campus when I was in university there.
I saw them open for Hootie as well on their Fairweather Johnson tour back in the 90s. Both bands were great!
I truly hope that didn't mean you had to sit through hootie and the blowfish afterwards

Thanks algorithm. I already love this song but just a random suggestion
Here too, awesome
That's nobody's business but the RUclips.
Flood is definitely an all time great album. Love every song.
That trumpet/ trombone intro: Stockhausen would’ve love that move.
But How?
What makes you think of Stockhausen?
That's Jazzy and Swingy, but it ain't Stockhausen Material IMHO.

Man, each time I hear a new live recording of this song, it’s even better than the last. Love these guys! :)
Chris Thile showing that brass can indeed melt faces.
My favorite bands are always ones you can tell are really having fun while performing, I've listened to their music before, but after seeing them play, holy shit. Top of the list.
Also, did the guitarist play Gerudo Valley right right before they started the song?
It's actually just the violin riff from the original. It's all similarly styled music. Got that middle-eastern inspired harmonic minor feel.
As a turk i enjoy listening this all the time 😂🤌
I was never really a fan of A Prairie Home Companion so when it switch over to Live From Here I figured I wouldn't like it either. WRONG!!! This show is a music nerd's paradise!! Thank you Chris!
Valve trombone + trumpet = amazing!
He's very talented.
Saw TMBG in Salt Lake City a couple times and they always rock! This guy with the trumpet was here the second time. Amazing!😄
Still puts a smile on my face ... even thought I am 40 years old still love it
Love that opening trumpet
At what point does Kurt Ramm become just a regular member of TMBG?
When he plays 3 brass instruments at once.
This song has been stuck in my head for so long I was beginning to wonder whether it actually existed. Xxx
UGH i adore these boys
Absolutely incredible Soulful performance this live version gives me goosebumps
I didn’t know this was a cover until a few years ago when I mentioned it to my parents. I didn’t believe them until I looked it up. Love that brass player’s soloing. He’s not just doing impressive sounds. He’s improvising melodies.
The horn player!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

That's not a trombone, that's a keybone! He's cheating! I will always remember discovering TMBG and this song on 'Tiny Tunes;' I swear, that guest appearance was the best thing that ever happened to them.
The reason TMBG have excelled for 40 years now is because they know how to have fun
On top of being the creator of Breaking Bad...I had no idea Vince Gilligan was also the lead singer for They Might Be Giants.
Vince is also pretty well known for his work on The X-Files, but the TMBG guy is...well...
