@@fftheblueskys Before I say anything else, I just want to say I'm not trying to sound like a know-it-all. Although I mostly play percussion, I own and play upright/double basses. Also, I have a soft spot for early and big band jazz -- where all low end frequencies can't be heard very well -- so I know the point you're you're saying. It's here, but it's soft. Actually, it's quite funny that I made that comment, because I often find myself complaining (mostly to myself) about there being too much bass in modern music. random? Did you know there is a channel doing covers like this for a few years now, it featured Robyn many times in the past. It's called Post Modern Jukebox and it's one of the most incredible things you can subscribe to on youtube.

I absolutely LOVE your voice. It's the perfect mix between sexy and sophisticated. It's crazy good. I've been a fan since I first heard you with Postmodern Jukebox, and I'm banging my head on why I just discovered this channel. You're awesome Robyn!
Everyone performed so well. The trumpetist was’t too loud, trombone blended well, the drummer wasn’t too invasive (fit the music), the singer had incredible timber and pitch, the pianist doesn’t need me to tell him how he rocks, and the bassist absolutely destroyed it on that walking bass line - seriously bravo. The bassist is so good- don’t afraid to be louder!!
WOW! She sang “put youuu on that high shittttt!” Robyn and band a standing ovation! Robyn if you ever visit Portland OR I’m 💯 for that show! Thank you for such a beautiful…everything!
This is a beautiful Cover but I still have to love the original better. Breaking down the original's reggae base back into it's distant Jazz roots is brilliant. It fits really well. The problem is that the Rap breakdown was sang in the same style as the rest of the piece. IMO this would be better done as a duet, where the other signer doing the "Rap breakdown" sings at a lower register. The Gorillaz is a theatrical concept almost more than a musical one. The Rap breakdown (Russell) is supposed to be an empowering defiant voice against the lead singer's (Stewart 2D pots) pessimism and acceptance of a world gone rotten.
Lil Dippy time for me is nothing because im in a bag naw i couldent be there naw u shouldnt be scared im good at repairs and im in a bag intangible bet you didnt think but i comand you to panaramic veiw look i make it all in a bag
First I was like, I like jazz, but I'm not really into this song, and than she started singing...I was stunned. This version sounds so good, her voice is totally amazing.
Seems like I’m seeing this about 3 years too late... this song is perfect with this jazz style. So original. So well performed. I’m 99% sure Gorrilaz traveled back in time to release this first.
I have the upmost respect for the musicians that are bringing back older styles of music, like bruno mars and childish Gambino. Whether I like the songs or not, I've gotta Respect them. So good job.
I like the high pass for this one. That piercing voice injects right into the brain. Just how it used to be. There is too much base in today's music culture.
GAWD DAMN YALL KILLED THIS! I was looking for some sort of jazz cover but wasn’t expecting to find something so incredibly well done! I’ve never been in awe like this before, wow!
Clint Eastwood is one of the few 21st century songs I truly enjoy, but as a fan of mid 20th century music, especially lounge jazz and light orchestral, this cover blew me away. Fantastic!
Robyn, this is the perfect cover! Gorillaz love for twisting and breaking genre music make them flexible for other genres, i've never imagined it'd work so well on yet another genre level. Great job!
I'm really impressed. If you're looking for ideas, I've always thought a cover of Saturday Night by the Misfits in the style they're tributing (swing/jazz/pop-standard/'50s/'40s/&c.) would be great, and I have not seen anyone else on RUclips that seems more likely to do it justice and enjoy doing it.
This was my first thought within the first 10 seconds. Then I scroll down and see this comment. Good to know I'm not the only one who thought the same!
I found this whilst looking for songs to put on my radio mod for New Vegas. Hope I can edit the sound quality to fit with the older recordings. If so, it's certainly going on there, because it's amazing. I don't even like the original, funny enough.
John Kokujin the original song with Damon Albarns singing aka: 2D stuart pot, is sooo much better. this is okay but idk it isn't right. and then the rapping part where Del comes out of Russel on this version doesn't sound right to me at all.
It's timed very very differently, I can understand how she arranged it but it's not the same at all. Like first listen through, the parts I knew the lyrics to I could sing along with her timing predictably before middle of the song, but it's very very different from the original song. To be honest, I appreciate the hell out of what they did with it, because they did something TOTALLY different.
when you think about it, it makes him seem more like how rus was in the earlier days of Gorillaz' live shows. look up a couple of live shows during phases 1 and 2, is face is just -_-
She just looks like shes having so much fun. Her voice is so amazing and smooth. She nailed the rap and made it sound amazing without it sounding too loud, And the background instrumental of the song is beautiful! Bravo
There's one part she missed 😥😥
I thought it was fantastic and then I noticed that she skipped the part in parentheses
"Every sproutin tree,
every child apiece

Njvader hey at least its one
As a big gorillaz fan, this cover is fucking genius and a great tribute to the band. Thank you!!!
crashcroft tbh I wish they kept the background melody and drums, because swing doesn't really fit the song (jazz can be other time signatures)

Nah, imo, Gorillaz songs shouldn't be covered, esp. not in this style. Remixes maybe.

Jay Adams It seems like they do that a lot though. Just regular swing music with whatever song lyrics. Which is ok but part of the song is missing.
Slowing down the song to make the rapping section singable in this style was ingenious.
si posta me costo un huevo sacar el rap de oido en la original y despues q me la aprendo encuentro esto y me queria pegar un tiro

Look up some of her other Postmodern Jukebox songs. She CAN do anything.
I mean she has also jazzified System of a Down songs. That takes a lot of talent

Pick and choose, sit and lose
All you different crews
Chicks and dudes, who you think is really kicking tunes
Picture you getting down and I'll picture too
Like you lit the fuse
You think it's fictional, mystical - maybe
Spiritual hero who appears on you to clear your view
When you're too crazy
Lifeless to those a definition for what life is
Priceless to you because I put ya on the hype shift

The essence, the basics without it you make it
Allow me to make this child like in nature
Rhythm you have it or you don't
That's a fallacy, I'm in them
Every spiralling tree, every child of peace
Every cloud I see you see with your eyes
I see destruction and demise
Corruption in the skies
From this fucking enterprise that I'm sucked into your lies
The Russell that is muscles
But percussion he provides
For me I say God, y'all can see me now
'Cos you don't see with your eye
You perceive with your mind
That's the end of it
So I'mma stick around with Russ and be a mentor
Bust a few rounds on motherfuckers
Remember what the thought is
I brought all this so you can survive when law is lawless (Right here)
Fearless, sensations that you thought was dead
No squealing, *_remember that it's all in your head_*

I always add a swing when I sing it to myself... apparently I'm not the only one! Whoa!
Gorillaz need to see this
This style actually suits SUPER well to the song!
The bassist is so good- don’t afraid to be louder!!
i didn't ask for a 1940s version... BUT THANK YOU ANYWAY ITS INCREDIBLE
i just imagine myself crippling mutant heads in some sort of wasteland while listening this
Lobo Diseña Locura

Lobo Diseña Locura YES! I thought I was the only one!!!

+AltFireSucker oh metal gear has something to say about that
Dan R.
Wow you should write reviews for a living. Seriously. You might actually be able to do it as a career
Guy, you really nail that one, do you write reviews for living? you should!
Quick correction: the rap breakdown is done by Del Tha Funky Ghost, not Russel.
worlds-okayest kk

The funky homosapian?
I thought this was postmodernjukebox for a minute. Lol
I thought it was up until I saw your comment and went and looked.

ApatheticSniffle NYAAAAAAAAA SEEE
Gnome We get it you hate Alex
First I was like, I like jazz, but I'm not really into this song, and than she started singing...I was stunned. This version sounds so good, her voice is totally amazing.
This is honestly really good like thank you RUclips for finally recommending something interesting
Seems like I’m seeing this about 3 years too late... this song is perfect with this jazz style. So original. So well performed. I’m 99% sure Gorrilaz traveled back in time to release this first.
found a new addiction
I have the upmost respect for the musicians that are bringing back older styles of music, like bruno mars and childish Gambino. Whether I like the songs or not, I've gotta Respect them. So good job.
Dope cover, the high pass filter is strong with this one though
agreed...they should have heard that
nice job though, Robyn
I think that was the whole point? Like to add effect?
I like the high pass for this one. That piercing voice injects right into the brain.
Just how it used to be. There is too much base in today's music culture.
But this is the other extreme, there's no low end in this at all, not even to balance it out.
I can hear the double bass just fine
GAWD DAMN YALL KILLED THIS! I was looking for some sort of jazz cover but wasn’t expecting to find something so incredibly well done! I’ve never been in awe like this before, wow!
I thought this was gonna be awesome, but the only aspect that made this worth my while is that fine bassist back there.
is it me or does the drummer look like gus fring ?, it makes the video even more cool
Herbal Designs can't possibly be him he's still got his face!
Randomly suggested to me
Thank you RUclips!
Rap in the 40's with OMG the most beautiful and awesome singer I have listened to in a LONG LONG time. You rock young lady!!!
Clint Eastwood is one of the few 21st century songs I truly enjoy, but as a fan of mid 20th century music, especially lounge jazz and light orchestral, this cover blew me away. Fantastic!
For once I'm actually glad RUclips recommended me something !
I bet drummer is thinking what choices in life brought him to play in this band
Really good ones
The probability of someone delivering Del's lines in a way that I will like as well as Del is impossibly remote. And yet, here we are.
Cured my Crippling Depression
Great now get rid of your profile picture
Kafonix That's pretty good
Have you gotten any pussy Supreme Gentleman
Supreme Gentleman so...uh why is your profile picture of that one killer cringey white dude?
could do something with my osteopososis?
Gorillaz and jazz don't fit in the same sentence
But y'all killed it
edit: this comment is 2 years old and i completely take it back.
This isn't jazz.
nack287 yah like jazz
They rhyme.
I don't think it's jazz
But you just fit them in the same sentence.
Gorillaz is any genre... They don't have a specific genre.
next cover gorillaz - feel good inc. please....
Check out Celia Pavey's cover of it, its more bluesy but she has an amazing voice
Sofia Lavrinenko
I'm amazed, the refrain is mind melting!
1:10 - bassist and drummer can't help cracking a smile :D
6k people don't have sunshine in a bag
By sunshine in a bag you mean pot. Am I right? I'm pretty shure it is this. Maybe.
CemtecUk right on
Sunwell Cleanser same, glad I finally found someone else
7.4k now
@@joaosantanajbll8915 no it's gold since, back then gold was "sunshine".
Robyn, this is the perfect cover! Gorillaz love for twisting and breaking genre music make them flexible for other genres, i've never imagined it'd work so well on yet another genre level. Great job!
How she sings "...the future" mmmm it's melting me!
Robyn I hope you make it big-time, you’re so talented!
I didn't know I needed this.
Clorox Bleach
your everywhere
+Canoga Parque I posted this exact comment elsewhere
+Canoga Parque well yes, people do after all need a refreshing drink in every home.
Clorox Bleach Are there multiple yous or are you just near literally everywhere?
ikr
I'm really impressed. If you're looking for ideas, I've always thought a cover of Saturday Night by the Misfits in the style they're tributing (swing/jazz/pop-standard/'50s/'40s/&c.) would be great, and I have not seen anyone else on RUclips that seems more likely to do it justice and enjoy doing it.
I agree whole-heartedly :)
Tom-Bot
Really hope she does it. Also, it's closer to an early '60s tune than a '40s one. Don't know why I said '40s.
0:35 piano sounds a little like Skyfall. I like this ;)
Juliusz Kaczmarzyk Probably intentional
One of my favorite vocalists, she makes everything swing, ain't nothing wrong with that.
I'll play Fallout to this.... fits right in.
Dónde estuviste todo este tiempo?!?
Me acabo de enamorar! Dios que buena mezcla! Que instrumentos! Que voz!!!! Los amo!!! 💖💖💖
Her voice is absolutely spectacular.
The hair, makeup, costumes, etc., are so awesome. I love vintage and old tyme style stuff and music.
I can't be the only one who wants this on the radio in fallout 5
now I wanna listen to the original version.
To be honest, I appreciate the hell out of what they did with it, because they did something TOTALLY different.
the drummer in the back isn't having fun
He's too busy enjoying the view, but that should maybe make him happy x)
alefaen Mmmmmmmm
haseo737 He's feeling glad
when you think about it, it makes him seem more like how rus was in the earlier days of Gorillaz' live shows. look up a couple of live shows during phases 1 and 2, is face is just -_-
"I ain't happy."
So great Robyn Adele is getting out there with her music. The musicians are great with a special kudo for Georgia Weber who is an excellent bassist.
