The test for the mustang your talking about was done at 6000ft. That altitude is a massive drop in horsepower. The fact that is missed 200mph at 6000ft by 8mph is impressive.
the Camaro Zl1s LSA engine is horribly underpowered because the corvette has to be the fastest. A LS9 cam/pulley swap will bring it up to 650hp for under $3,000 installed.
Man that clip on the straight when Freiburger just blazes past at 190 plus is just freaking Visceral!!!!!! almost looks fake like a freaking jet or something!!! lol awesome!
Yes STOCK after Shelby does $30,000 worth of mods to it and sends it back to Ford. Run that little pont against a Chevy ZR1 and see what happens. The ZR1 is all Chevy and not sent out.
scott4xtc The GT500 is built entirely by Ford at the Auto Alliance plant in Flat Rock Michigan. Shelby doesnt build the car. Shelby America (Vegas) only builds the SuperSnake and GT350. The GT500 rolls right off the assembly line ready to go. And did you just compare a $54k 4 seater pony car to a $100k 2 seater sports car? Hahahaha LOL
Dang bro, you always get us with that acronym. Oh, an acronym is when you take the letters in a word and make cool yet very accurate sentences. I wish Henry would've thought about that when he named his company. I'll bet its the only reason we have to fix or repair them daily. I'll bet if he named it something that you couldn't possibly make an acronym out of people would be forced to judge the craftmanship solely on the product which, in turn, would yield a much better car. Man, all in a name.
Lawrence, the gt500 is none stock hitting roughly 204mph from the factory. The zl1 which is already over $10,000 more expensive can be made to hit 202mph if you get the $11,245 package that is made. So that's more than a few upgrades.
Although lengthy car debates are an unsightly part of modern car culture it's undeniable that it helps to generate enthusiasm in a particular brand/automobile in much the same way that an advertisement does. Even the auto companies themselves are starting to use it with some possible results. However I do agree with you that many of the fanboys and girls debating on youtube do not own or even drive the cars they praise. But I admire the affection they have for these cars in these hard times.
MotorTrend even called the GT500 "The one trip pony". They called the ZL1 "The consistent of the two, maintains speed, better braking, better handling. period."
Does this Lingenfelter 700+ package include headers? They aren’t listed in the specs on their website from what I can see. I’m assuming it has headers?
Did you even take the time to read the description of this video? This ZL1 is running $12k in mods, which includes 15psi and 109 octane for 720hp at the rear wheels. And the GT500 was tested at Chrysler's Proving Grounds in Arizona, which has an elevation of roughly 2,000ft... not 50ft as you claim.
BAD ASS Camaro! A car with a top speed of 150mph is enough for me. I love the ZL1 because of the looks, build quality, the sounds.. and yes the speed too lol. The factory ZL1 has been DE-tuned, It could have well over 600HP but i appreciate GM keeping it second behind the ZR1.
The GT500 is built by Ford. It rolls off of the line at the Flat Rock plant in Michigan. Theres even a few videos here on youtube that show this. A quick google search will even confirm this. Unfortunately, some folks cant grasp that idea. Shelby has even said that they are not able to produce the high number of cars in one year, so the contract went to Ford. Shelby only produces the limited number of GT350's and SuperSnakes.
Perhaps. I've never driven one. I'm going by what all the media outlets, Ford SVT engineers, and Ford marketing folks are saying. In fact, I was so convinced I ordered my 2013 GT500 in Deep Impact Blue with white stripes last week. Estimated delivery date is 4 to 6 months. BTW, I currently drive a base 2011 Corvette with LS3, 6-speed manual gear box and Magnapack 3-inch SS exhaust with crossover, no mufflers, just resonators...yeah, it's VERY loud and VERY fast!
with a few British Soldiers less than a month ago. If someone has a problem it isn't us. We're just here to help, thanks or no thanks. And, please understand, our forces die out here every day along side yours, and with the same honor.
Yes, thats true. They do still make Camaros in Canada, but I think GM decided to move Chevy production back into the US. I'm not sure if they will continue to make Camaros in Canada, but it's possible that they will make them both in the US and also in Canada simultaneously.
Their are actually about 4 engine choices for the Mustang. Ford made a new 3.7l V6 however I'm not completely sure if they done away with the 4.0 let. The Boss is a very high end mustang and I applaud Ford on the amount of suspension tuning that went into that car.
No shit. Both are badass. I remember when I was a teenager back in the 80s, the IROCs and GT were making around 200 hp. These are now the good old days! Me, I like the looks of the Mustang better...but shit I wouldn't turn down either car. Both are more than fast enough to go to jail lol.
i've got a question - in additon to any intercooler, would working the air conditioner into the intake air flow help/? guys talking about 200f air being a performance killer on the wet alone.
@Gradeau Please elaborate. Ive been workin as a tech for the Chevy dealer for the last 6 years. My fellow techs and I deal with BS warranty claims daily. Unless youve done serious tweaking, like replacing major components with aftermarket equipment its covered. Just replaced a LS3 cam and lifters under warranty because the prick "changed" his own oil, beat on it, drove it in with a "noise" complaint, I pulled the plug. No oil. GM still covered it. Bottom end was fine.
I, a loyal Chevy guy completely understand your point in stopping the Camaro fan boy madness. The mustang may be be classified as "bone stock" which is true. but the engine is also bored and tuned and its best bit being the tampered with gear ratios allowing the high speed. the camaro does not have these ratios and much less the power. so i'd say Lingenfelter (the closest thing to Chevy's Shelby tuner) did a pretty good job none the less with there once bone stock Zl1. Both these cars are tuned!
A friend of mine has a CLS 55 AMG and he hits 140-150 all the time, only because the car is so planted that it doesn't feel like you're going that fast. Fast is a very relative term. Going 120 in a Honda Civic can be scary. Going 120 in a Veyron is a Sunday afternoon cruise. 202 is another league, but it's still dependent on the vehicle.
My loyalty has nothing to do with this. Yes, I am a Ford fan, but that does not diminish the fact one bit that this Lingenfelter Camaro, an American designed car modified by Lingenfelter, an American company, has set track records on the track and also on the drag strip. 200MPH is what Corvettes already do. This Camaro proves that the Camaro, which is probably about $54K USD, is doing the same things as a Corvette ZR1, which is keeping up with cars many times their price.
Uvalde, TX is sittin' at around 1000ft and in recent years has been equally as hot. Although there is about 1000ft elevation difference the track in Arizona has high speed banked turns. I agree if you took this car to Arizona it wouldn't perform as well, I think it would perform equally as well. Although none of it would matter because the Shelby is a production car. The Camaro is an LPE modified car.
Pump has is for cars that have a 9:1-11:1 compression ratio. 109 octane allows 15:1 compression ratio and 20lbs boost. If you can run 109 octane in a car, it is already 5-10% more horsepower than just pump gas, but if you use it with all the boost and compression ratios, it will be the only choice.
Just remember the size of a block cannot be changed so the displacement is always the same. The supercharger displaces more air, but it doesn't add to the displacement of the engine. It adds psi to the combustion.
I went for years thinking GM sucks. My son in law, who has a performance shop, (compauto.net) specializes in Mustang performance introduced me to the GM LS2 motor. His own words, "for the money, you will not find more power then the LS2." I am very happy with the GTO I bought. What was Fords answer to the GTO? They were dumbfounded and didn't have an idea of how to compete against it.
The Shelby and ZL1 both use nearly identical Eaton TVS 'factory blowers'. Neither is an aftermarket mod, both are factory installed and sourced from the same OEM. They also use nearly identical Tremec gearboxes and Brembo brakes. I guess the aftermarket is in everything these days.
There is nothing more hilarious then a bunch of people bench racing cars that they will never own. The truth here is that BOTH the Ford and the Chevy are completely bad-ass cars. They are a fraction of the cost of some of the most expensive exotic supercars and can perform just as good! For that, we should be proud!!
Ummmm, the SVT team are Ford employees, not an outsourced entity and the GT500 comes with a full Ford warranty, not from some outside warranty company. So, yes, it is a stock Ford Mustang, the Shelby GT500 model. You can build a GT500 in the configuration of your choice on Ford's website. Built at Flatrock next to V-6 Mustangs
Ford took the GT500 to the Ring during a different season for testing purposes. GM took the ZL1 to the Ring during a cooler time of year and rented the entire course and ran 35+ laps in order to get their hero lap time. Who knows if Ford will ever release a time. Perhaps their statement, "For testing purposes" is true. Maybe they were not trying to get a fast time, but rather test the car.
Both the HPE and this LPE in this vid are powerful. Both Lingenfelter and Hennessy have been making some serious powerhouse beasts from Camaros and Corvettes for decades. Which one is actually more powerful? I'm not sure. Both an LPE and an HPE ZL1 would have to be put on a track side by side. I have no doubts that the Hennessy ZL1 would break 200MPH just like this one did.
Yes, gearing will help. Afterall, this specific car was initially built to show some great performance at the drag strip, but when taking it to this track for a top speed achievement, red line for 5th gear became factor and the overdrive ratio of 6th limited how fast it could accelerate on such a little amount of space. Given a longer straight, this ZL1 would hit 200 and probably get to 210MPH
Continued- I need to correct myself, the Camaro ZL1 is around $54000, but even after you add Lingenfelter's LPE package, it's still cheaper than a Corvette ZR1, which is a fraction of the price of many supercars the ZR1 keeps up with.
In all fairness, the roll cage and lack of back seat were probably set up for the drag strip rather than a speed run. Also, a cross-wind increases drag a little bit too, which makes me wonder why they didn't wait for a calm day.
Technically, both the GT500, and the ZL1 in stock form are not stock. They're both supercharged versions of the normal SS and GT. So, both cars were technically modded to hit 200mph. Arguing is still stupid since the GT500 and ZL1 are nice cars.
Revan Racing changed their youtube channel name to "D Van Collier". They posted several 2013 GT500 track videos. Skid pad numbers don't matter with the ZL1. It doesn't have the turn-in response and accuracy that the GT500 has. The extra grip is useless. Slalom results can be down to ride height and overall vehicle height, the ZL1 is shorter, but that opens up another bucket of problems. Visibility. Blind spots. ZL1's are actually quite dangerous to have on a race track, in traffic.
David Feiburger is my favorite magazine editor and a great all around hotrodder. But dude, this video sucked, how about a little windshield time at the 200 marker so we could see what its like. I appreciate getting to 200 first, thats awesome and you are a lucky man to get to do it. And props to the folks at Lingenfelter. I guess I'll just watch the Nurbergring video again to get my fix.
I do see where you are coming from. But it is a Stock car. Same with Saleen and RUF. It is confusing but they are considered to be their own manufactures. They are stock from the factory.
What are you smoking?1?!? The GT500 is done in-house by Ford and SVT! The ones that Caroll Shelby himself and his staff modded was a GT500, re-built into a SuperSnake.
Actually MotorTrend said the GT500 was more fun to drive, the ZL1 was a better daily driver and with better brakes. They also go to say that the GT500 with upgraded brakes would be unbeatable.
Yes, the price is reasonable. I'm sorry you missed my point if I wasn't clear. Here's my point: A Camaro that beats the Shelby's factory stock topspeed by 2 mph, at the cost of an extra $11K, doesn't make for an impressive comparison. Just my opinion.
Shelby gt500 isn't the Shelby factory. It's made in ford by the SVT team and is not a modded car. It is sold stock like that with a warranty. And as for the modded zl1. If you take a car and add that much to it and try to drive it as a daily driver, the compression in the engine will make it break down along with the gearing. It is a drag and track car.
I've owned 8 Camaros in my lifetime. I want to make the ZL1 my 9th but does Chevy have any plans to reduce the WEIGHT? It seems odd to have to spend the type of money to upgrade the LS to reach max speeds and you still lose to lighter cars like the Vette, Mustang, or Ricers. Somebody please offer me some suggestions before I buy please.
I agree with you on the ditch the push rod, and go DOHC for GM, but that 5.0l without the supercharger, not sure about the 2013 model. but I know 2012 model, motor trend wanted to put them up for a match, but couldn't get a fresh one off Ford then to put them on the track together, they held out a year until the 2013 model from what I know. but the 2013 GT 500 is a monster crushing the big 6.2l I must say new Mustang is better price, lighter in weight, and has serious horse
You can't raise the boost in the Camaro without changing the engine internals. It's a 6.2l v8 with basic internals. It couldn't handle the pressure. But the lingenfelter changes it and adds some racing gas and gets that horsepower. Race car vs stock street car. Fair fight?
@Gradeau Regardless, What Factory warranty passed '08 do you speak of? GMs Powertrain warranty last 5yrs 100k miles (New for 2007) so 07 - older models (07 model production dates are almost all in '06) are now outta date. '06 and older models only had a 3yr 36k mile powertrain warranty. And extended warranties like GMPP, National ect are not GMs to manage.
GT500 has been built in Ford's Flat Rock plant since 2006, right along side the other mustangs on the same line. Shelby only produces the limited number of GT350's and SuperSnakes. Ford has the contract to develop, build, and sell the GT500's because Shelby cannot make that many a year. The GT500 has been a part of Fords (SVT) stable since 06.
Who said anything about an import? I was talking about Evolution Performance a shop that modifies Mustang just like Lingenfelter. Yes a GT500 has run 8's modded by evolution performance and tune by Jon Lund.
What you're saying is the highly modified, $65,000 L.ZL1 that took multiple attempts to break the 200 barrier, is better than a car that is unmodified, $10,000 less with a full warranty, and CAN in fact reach 200mph? Yes sounds like an unbiased review to me..
In spite of all the haters out there, the Mustang and Camaro run with many exotics for a fraction of the price.
The test for the mustang your talking about was done at 6000ft. That altitude is a massive drop in horsepower. The fact that is missed 200mph at 6000ft by 8mph is impressive.
I'm all about the Chevy v Ford but 200 mph in anything is badass. I'm a Chevy guy by the way. Cars are awesome. Period.
Congrats on the 202+ mph run guys!!!!! That's absolutely amazing!
the Camaro Zl1s LSA engine is horribly underpowered because the corvette has to be the fastest.
A LS9 cam/pulley swap will bring it up to 650hp for under $3,000 installed.
200 mph in the Camaro ZL1!
YOU'RE THE MAN!
Why is the Camaro so much better than the Mustang and the Challenger?
it's GM
+Coke a Koala mustang owner and love all 3. probably zl1 for my next car though or that badass Z28!!!
Man that clip on the straight when Freiburger just blazes past at 190 plus is just freaking Visceral!!!!!! almost looks fake like a freaking jet or something!!! lol awesome!
So you had to go to a 3rd party modifier in order to hit 200mph, when Ford does it stock, off the factory floor? Seems fair....
Yes folks he just compared and 4 seater 3900lb 55k car to a 115k 2 seater 3250lb car.
GT500 is still faster and an overall better performance Muscle car lol. Camaros will never out perform the GT500. Nice try hitting 200MPH.
GT500s are worse than Camaros lol and jokes on you the Camaro went faster than the GT500 gtfo Ford fanboy hahahaha
Moo2566 Equus wil overrun them. But equus is overpriced, so i think you wont see it on american roads, maybe in Dubai :D
Samer spark For a second I thought you were talking about the Hyundai Equus lol i was about to FLIP
Samer spark Thank God...the Equus is sexy af but I think it's kinda funny they but a LS in a mustang based chassis lol
Kent Tor MOPAR or no car
Freiburger's the man. Wrench-turning, badass car guy from head to toe. But i didn't know he's also the kind of guy to rap out a car past 200 mph!
Lawrence, the gt500 is none stock hitting roughly 204mph from the factory. The zl1 which is already over $10,000 more expensive can be made to hit 202mph if you get the $11,245 package that is made. So that's more than a few upgrades.

awesome video , enjoyed it. hope to see the gt500 head to head with the Lingenfelter on there soon. peace :)
i love the gen5 Camaro.
I look forward to seeing him run both cars! ZL1 ftw
MotorTrend even called the GT500 "The one trip pony". They called the ZL1 "The consistent of the two, maintains speed, better braking, better handling. period."
Love all muscle cars. We'rew all part of the muscle family and gotta stick together to beat up thoes ricers
Does this Lingenfelter 700+ package include headers? They aren’t listed in the specs on their website from what I can see. I’m assuming it has headers?
The fact that the car held the road at 199 mph in a 25 mph crosswind is more impressive, in my opinion, than going 200.
Truer words never been spoken!
Did you even take the time to read the description of this video? This ZL1 is running $12k in mods, which includes 15psi and 109 octane for 720hp at the rear wheels. Crazy that the inter cooler was getting hot at high speeds. Did he ever mention how many pounds of boost the over driven supercharger was pushing?
The sound of the supercharger... just... OHHHHHHH my lawdddddd
How do you figure the gt500 is better around corners than the zl1?
Yeah sure the GT500 does it "stock" but technically it's a Shelby. So I think the ZL1+ Lingenfelter and the GT500 are equal in terms of that
This has been an ongoing sage for decades and decades. It's gotten more "viral" now, that's all.
Yes, thats true. They do still make Camaros in Canada, but I think GM decided to move Chevy production back into the US.

guy. This new GT500 is all about the motor and power adder. It's cool that it can get to 60 in first gear, I suppose to each their own
@Gradeau Please elaborate. Ive been workin as a tech for the Chevy dealer for the last 6 years. My fellow techs and I deal with BS warranty claims daily. You can like what ever you want my friend. Just don't be hating on manufacturers that produce cars that are just as capable.

Why did they set up methanol injection? that would decrease inlet temps to like 20 F.
I love how you say this as if thats the reason you would pick the Camaro over the Mustang. Because your so badass that 190 mph is not enough.
I'm American and I approve this message.
camaros are the best
Mustangs and Camaros are both badass. I will take one of each please! I don't get the whole Ford vs. Chevy BS. A nice car is a nice car.

Yes, and The GT is high end because V6 is the Base. Their is no intermediary unless you consider the 4.0 as the midway.
The Shelby and ZL1 both use nearly identical Eaton TVS 'factory blowers'. Neither is an aftermarket mod, both are factory installed and sourced from the same OEM.

WAIT A MINUTE. At 4:48, it looks like it's going a downward slope and the track is way longer. The Ford can do over 200 on a straightaway!
Yes, gearing will help. @tharun72 Just a question... Lear what? This is an aftermarket automobile and it had a really hard time doing 200+ while the Shelby is stock
Technically, both the GT500, and the ZL1 in stock form are not stock. They're both supercharged versions of the normal SS and GT. So, both cars were technically modded to hit 200mph.
Arguing is still stupid since the GT500 and ZL1 are nice cars.
i hope so, Camaros are one of America's iconic cars... it pissed me off when I found out they weren't made here :'(
Amen to that brotha!!!
Shelby GT500 is not modded, it is straight from the factory which FORD. All those 662 hp, bilstein shocks are standard when you buy it.
Amen. I own a Mustang and have plenty of Camaro friends. American Muscle > stupid debates. Appreciate a car for what it is. Don't hate.
Camaro for the win
Chevy is BOSS it's just the way life is.
I do see where you are coming from. But it is a Stock car.
Same with Saleen and RUF.
It is confusing but they are considered to be their own manufactures.
They are stock from the factory.
The thing is, this ZL1 is heavily modified. The Gt500 STOCK, can apparently hit 200 mph, theres a big difference
Needs the full roll cage to run at the track. Anything running the 1/4 mile at the times this thing does, requires one.
Here's my point:
A Camaro that beats the Shelby's factory stock topspeed by 2 mph, at the cost of an extra $11K, doesn't make for an impressive comparison. Just my opinion.
how much weight did you guys lose with the seat delete and everything
+David Rodgers The new ones are much lighter now and 640HP. Should be an easy high 11's car
+Jarred JROD new ZL1 will run high 10s with drag radials.
thats awesome...makes me want to wait now lol
4:35 is hilarious but also a "damn!" moment
Yes sounds like an unbiased review to me..
a high res graphics wrap service might help to
differentiate them i agree.
paste CAMARO on the sides and trunk so the
fools wouldn't get mixed up
Is there a back seat in the Camaro? It looked to be stripped out.
Baby got back!
