  • For Polaris winches with the automatic stop feature. The hook remains loose after it stops automatically so it bounces around making noise and scratching up the front bumper.

    I got a large $3.00 rubber plug from HD. Drilled a hole and put the plug between the stopper & fairlead. Slack is taken out & auto-stop still functions.

    Man, that little rubber stop is a major PIA to get the rope passed through it. Watching your video before hand, I installed the rope stop with the chamfered edge TOWARDS the winch. That lets it pull in tighter. The other thing I do is reel the rope in on HIGH SPEED. Doing both of these pulls it up good and tight so it doesn't flop around.

      Somewhere I saw someone soap up the cable end and attach a cable tie that they threaded through the stop, and then muscled the cable through. It worked pretty well, at least on video.

    Honestly, this won’t sound right but just by playing with the rope and remote, mine sucked as tight as I wanted. Little annoying? Yes, but I have a RZR Pro and don’t plan on using it much, nor plowing with it. Still.... Great video, thank you! 🇺🇸

    Try the soft shackle you will love it your ideas OK I see you bought a factor 55 product but we plow snow with a blade you need that or I’ll stop feature take it from me if you plow with your machine

  • @pasqualepapaleo662
    @pasqualepapaleo662 3 года назад

    If you were plowing snow with that machine you would need that auto stop because it’ll pull the plow in any wrecks the rope pretty quick I have a 2019 Polaris sportsman 1000 XP and you need to have that and the soft shackle I have is a smaller one the rope is the size of the winch rope it’s blue and I use the soft shackle for the plow the best

      I agree. For that application the auto stop feature would be perfect.

    Just curious where you got the front shackle tie down? I just ordered the winch shackle for mine. Awesome video. I may want to add the front shackle tie down to mine as well

      The 2 inch receiver is Polaris part #2882782. I got the shackle mount and shackle off Amazon:
      www.amazon.com/dp/B072V6V352/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_5AD3KZN4AKBHP5RRCJ32?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
      The 2-in receiver is great for using as a tie-down or pulling straight but I don't think it would hold up well to a side pull. Thanks for the feedback let me know if you have any other questions.

      Thanks for your help. I installed my winch shackle today. Took only a few minutes. I think that I will order the other 2 items as well. Looks like a nice set up. Looks like it may prove interesting installing the 2” receiver with the winch already being installed. LOL..

    I’m not sure which winch you have but I have the Polaris 4500HD wireless There’s a little piece of rubber hose that comes in the kit it’s very heavy duty what you do is you put that in front of the magnet going into Fairlead and it prevents the hook from bouncing around I don’t like the rubber behind it I actually prefer to mount my winch cable up higher so I can actually get at it when it’s in the mud nothing is more frustrating than digging through the mud to find your winch cable! The shut off is just a bonus for when you’re driving on a trail & no chance of using your winch! To be honest I hate where Polaris mounts the winches , I like a winch bumper to get it up high out of way of rocks & debris!

      I have the 6k Polaris winch. I don't think I got that hose in my kit. I can see how that would work to prevent the hook from bouncing on the bumper.

  • @fullthrottle2656

    I agree that is a problem. Mines the same way but your solution just eliminated the auto stop function so that really doesn't solve the problem by eliminating its function.

    • @flatlanderoffroad8189
      @flatlanderoffroad8189  4 года назад

      I don't need the auto stop feature myself. I would still use the auto stop if it snugged up well before stopping. I could definitely see where it helps if you're using the winch to lift a plow. So for me I'd rather eliminate the auto stop and snug it up. I like the shackle mount also for my soft shackles.

      @@flatlanderoffroad8189 what I did to remedy mine was got another rubber winch puck and put it behind the magnetic one. I had to shave it down a little thinner so the magnet would pick up and trip the winch but it works👍

    Cool deal. Have you figured out what the part number is for a hardwired remote? I always wonder when the battery will go dead in the remote.

      Can ask about the solid mounted shackle? How did you install it? Where is it mounted?

    • @flatlanderoffroad8189
      @flatlanderoffroad8189  3 года назад

      It's mounted to the Polaris OEM 2-in front mount receiver (part #2882782). I feel it's plenty strong for a straight pull but I wouldn't pull very hard from the side with it. I also use it to tie the Ranger down when trailering.

    Polaris rides smooth, it’s great if you’re just trail riding. I bought a Can-am because they have more power, and I ride hard on my machines. Still have my old 06 browning edition 500 HO, Polaris runs great 7200 Miles on it.

    Did you get rid of the wires for the magnet/auto stop? I wanna take all of that off my winch. Less wires

    • @flatlanderoffroad8189
      @flatlanderoffroad8189  3 года назад

      I left those wires plugged in and zip tied them out of the way. I didn't want to cut them off to eliminate the function in case I wanted to use it in the future for plowing or something else.

    Why not just disconnect the cable guide if you are doing away with the autostop

    • @flatlanderoffroad8189
      @flatlanderoffroad8189  4 года назад

      Certainly could do that Scott. I though about doing that and getting a different larger puck for behind the hook. The puck included with the winch is small and even if pulled tight the hook would have to be turned sideways to not contact the bar below it on the bumper. Not sure how it would hold up over time since I don't think it was designed to be squeezed tight between the hook and fairlead. A thick enough puck would fix that. I shopped around for many options and I decided to go with the setup in the video due to personal preference. I used the same type of setup on my Landcruiser for years. I would rather use a shackle than the winch hook most of the time.

      Yeah the soft shackles have been great. And I agree with you if you use your winch for a plow the auto stop feature is a very nice feature. If I ever do put a plow on I will put the magnetic puck back on for sure.
