Trump shooting: the security failures that let gunman mount assassination attempt | BBC News

- The attempted assassination of Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania exposed a series of security lapses that allowed the gunman to mount his assassination attempt.
The gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks was able to access a roof around 130 meters from the podium where Mr Trump was speaking.
It’s the job of the US Secret Service to protect sitting and former presidents. Somehow the gunman managed to breach the security perimeter with a rifle and reach an elevated position close to Mr Trump.
Video of the attack and the accounts of eyewitnesses suggest that members of the crowd became aware of the threat before the police and other security officials and attempted to alert them to the danger It was only when the gunman opened fire that officials recognised the danger and responded, with Thomas Crooks shot dead by armed officers.

There was some interesting insight on X'd Twitter, from someone who'd worked Security for previous Presidents, talking about the issues of lack of communication between the various units working, etc.. It was titled "Police Officer DROPS BOMBSHELL about Trump's Shooting..." it was insight, not a "bombshell", but hyperbole is the game.

This weekend was packing to move back to my home town Butler Pa. In shock this happened. Rural Butler is peaceful community.
Yes, it is. I grew up right there, too before moving elsewhere for my career. I return home for visits regularly to see all my family there. It was surreal to see and hear this kind of thing happening in my hometown but I firmly believe it was something that was going to happen somewhere some time and July 13th in Butler just got unlucky. Butler will rise above this incident. Trump loves Butler, PA very very much, there's no question in my mind about that.

Context matters. If the Blind reporter was on the ground reporting live they wouldn't stop the camera rolling because people are walking in the background. BBC could ask him to reshoot the report but i imagine thats why they kept that cut scene short and showed it only to reference they were there from the beginning
