You should listen to the studio version, because this Soul Train performance was shortened and things left out to fit the show format. Check out "The World Is A Ghetto", "Deliver The Word" "All Day Music" " Low Rider", "Cisco Kid", "Why Can't We Be Friends?", "City Country City", "Low Rider", "My Four Cornered Room", "Galaxy"......etc. Their catalog is deep!
That dirge at the beginning is needed to pull you all the way into the song. It hits wayyyyy different.
Each of those Gems you listed were absolutely phenomenal and I have listened to WAR since I was 6 years old my parents introduced mr to them and we would attend their concerts in the Midwest,: Chicago, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana monster production 😊❤😊
I remember The Poor Righteous Teachers sampled this for their classic song"Rock Dis Funky Joint"
War a fairly deep rabbits hole
WAR had some great songs. Eric Burton of the Animals sang with them.
Thank you for finally reacting to the group War. You’ve got to listen to Summer, All Day Music, and Don’t Let No One Get you Down. This group is straight out of Southern California. Another group you should check out is Tierra, the song is Together.
The hook was 'borrowed' by Bob Marley in his great "Get Up, Stand Up," He was a great admirer of them
You have to do more songs by War. They were an awesome band.
Best music ever I glad I born in the 60s❤❤❤❤
"WHY CAN'T WE BE FRIENDS", "ALL DAY MUSIC", "SUMMER" & of course "LOW RIDER".
My dad turned me on to this group & their music. Dad underwent training for the Treasury Department from 1974-1974. He told me about a neighborhood bar he hung out in with mostly Blacks from the same neighborhood (known as a family bar back then; someone's kids were always running in & out to the store next-door bringing ice, cigarettes, and food to the bar patrons). Dad would play their live album while he was getting ready to head out for day-drinking. Many memories of my dad attached to this music.
San Antonio , Texas i absolutely enjoyed listening to War
War brought something different into Rock, and we welcomed them. Eric Burton did some great jams with them too.
Great to see you guys back...and with a vengeance! You definitely owe it to yourselves to hear this song properly from their 'All Day Music' album. You probably guessed that this version was chopped, and it is, but the album version gives you much more nuance, and the opening 1:40 alone is amazing. You're going to get a lot of predictable suggestions for more War but let me suggest the song 'Smile Happy' from 'Why Can't We be Friends'. The song title alone encapsulates everything you guys are about, but the song will exceed all expectations. Thanks.
Definitely influenced The Wailers, "Get up, Stand up, Stand up for your rights"
This really brings back memories. Thank you.
Love War. "All Day" Galaxy, (live 1980) so good. 💠
Great choice.
Great song choice. War in the 1970s were a hot premier crossover r&b reggae style band. They had tight jams cisco kid, low rider why can't we be friends, galaxy, me & my brother & outlaw to name a few.
This is on my phone playlist. Good stuff.
What's up Shawn and Mel ? I'm glad you're back I'm also glad you reacted to this incredible band. Here's some more suggestions from WAR
The World Is A Ghetto the long version (1972)and the beautiful
Deliver The Word (1973) thanks again and welcome back
Why did it cut off so early? But BTW, this was LIVE. What a tight band. Incredible musicians
Add "The World is a Ghetto", "Four Corner Room", "Where Was You At" to the mix.
War had some good ones. My favourite one is Summer which was out around 1977 or so. It is such a feel good song.
The real groove… moving body parts.
Check out Samara Joy, the 23 year old jazz singer who won the Grammy for Best New Artist and Best Jazz Vocal Album (2023). She has an official music video for 'Guess Who I Saw Today'? and a Grammy performance of 'Can't Get Out Of This Mood'.
💥love war , awesome group, great reaction shawn and mel all love guys and welcome back. 👋✌🤟🤘🙏❤
I remember when this song came out or have a lot of great songs. I'm glad you pick this one
War is a deep dive. They have that Texas soul. Their sound is different. Cisco Kid is one of my favorites among so many others
They grew up together and had a strong church background. That dirge at the beginning of the studio version makes me cry every time. The song hits different when you listen to the studio version.
@@phenomteacher I wholeheartedly agree
Oh yeah, miss watching Soul Train.
The radio play studio version is so much Better ! 👍🎶📻
Glad to see your back, missed you.
@@michaelasay8587 I think there's some Hanky Panky going on between breaks.
Y'all got to do it from the beginning. It's starts with an intro that sounds like a dirge. They take us to church via what feels like a funeral procession. Without that part, the other part won't have the same impact. Ima find it and post it.
More war! Please! 70’s was the best!
That was The Hammer Fred Williamson on stage with Don.
A very underrated band. Very multitalented you guys should check out The World Is A Ghetto or Summer…
@@michaelasay8587 yes it does they don’t get the recognition they deserve.
This song wanna make Shawn grow dat fro .. Lol
Please check out LOW RIDER. You probably will recognize it. A true BANGER!❤
Need to listen to the original version
LOVED War as a teen during the 70s! They had no bad songs! A couple more you should add to your reaction list are "Low Rider" and "Spill The Wine" by Eric Burdon & War (links below). They were probably two of their biggest hits and very different vibes! Thanks for this great reaction! ✌💙✌
Low Rider - ruclips.net/video/BsrqKE1iqqo/видео.html
Spill The Wine - ruclips.net/video/W77Kwh6f0TE/видео.html
Especially Spill The Wine.
S&M....For this song you've gotta react to the studio/audio version. Also, react to their songs: Cisco Kid, Me and Baby Brother, The World is A Ghetto, All Day Music. Also, Slippin Into Darkness was sampled in Hip Hop for "Rock This Funky Joint."
Where is the rest of the song? You need to hear the entire track. The long version where the beginning sounds like some kind of Negro spiritual and you're not sure where they're going and if you like it, but then they get into it and get real funky on you, and you end up dancing. War was bad back in the day. Long live the 70s!

Way to crank out the reactions.

One of a few live Soul Train performances
It doesn't get any funkier
