Lauren is known as the "Stairwell Siren". She made this song famous on TikTok by singing in the stairwell of her apartment building to scare her neighbors. She also did this song a couple weeks after this one came out with The Bass Gang. Completely different theme. Right before Hurricane Ian hit Orlando FL Layne flew to Nashville and back within 24 hours to film Lauren on a green screen. Then when his power came back on after the hurricane he added Lauren into the video. The voices of the ghosts flying around was done by Elizabeth Zharoff aka The Charismatic Voice.
Here’s a fun fact: Voiceplay and another group called the Bass Gang both released covers of this song the same month, same year, with the same guest artist. It was an unintentional coincidence, but if you’re curious to hear another take on it… this is my attempt encouraging you to check out another acapella group I love (they aren’t limited to acapella, but it’s what they do most).
She's from Tennessee, had done a Tiktok solo version which went viral. VoicePlay contacted her and she agreed to do this although her part was done in Nashville with Layne who had flown up to get her video and sound part ready to combine with VoicePlay's. To complicate things Hurricane Ian was barrelling into Tampa on its way to Orlando. Layne made it back home before the storm got there. They then had to deal with the aftermath of the storm, no power, flooding, wind. They did get Elizabeth of the Charismatic Voice to do the sounds of the ghosts flitting around the room towards the end. Geoff taught Layne beatboxing when he wanted to go from baritone to beatboxer. Layne ran with it and has become one of the best beatboxers. Eli can do some and I don't know but wouldn't be surprised that Cesar could do a little. Scott Porter was the original beatboxer (see him in Halo) who headed for an acting career but has been in Just Sing and Halo. I was surprised that as animated as Cesar is, that he managed to keep his head inside the crystal ball!
Good catch on the characters!!! I had not been to Haunted Mansion since before my son was born (and he’s 40) so could not remember who Lauren was supposed to be. If you look at the bookcase behind Geoff you can see busts of the Grim Grinning Ghosts characters. They used this set in the PattyCake Productions video of Villains in the Haunted Mansion. By the way Eli does have a name: it is Alexander NITROkoff, with the “explosive” temper. He wasn’t really thrilled about having to wear boxer shorts when everybody else got cool costumes. But then again Cesar had to sit perfectly still for his portion and that was not easy for him! I had a hard time seeing Layne and Geoff in those characters, especially Layne! I watched them put the makeup on and it was still hard to see him. If you wanted to do a long video, you might consider doing their video of Grim Grinning Ghosts in costume (which is probably the one you’ve seen) along with one they did backstage and was recorded live. Marwan Ayman (from The Bass Gang) also does a cover of it, but it might just be a short. He also has a really good version of Spooky Scary Skeletons. These are all on my playlist around Halloween. (And Geoff helped Layne to start beatboxing. You can see him beatboxing in the partworks cover of Death of a Bachelor. He and Earl the lowest voice and the highest voice ) sang all five parts so Geoff did the beat boxing. There’s also really old footage of them when they were working at Disney where he beatboxed and produced the bass line when they were four members of the train conductor Quartet.) If you liked that funny little sound, be sure to check out their recent mini of the Mario theme. Lots of funny sounds and it is one of those lyric-less pieces.Lots of rapid fire do-do-do-dos and dat-dat-dat-dats in perfect sync.
They filmed this just before a hurricane that was due to hit Orlando. Layne made a 24 hour trip (there and back) to Nashville to video Lauren. He made it back to be with his family just before the storm hit. Unfortunately his editing was delayed several days due to loss of power.
Regarding the beatboxing- most of the VoicePlay guys can do at least a little (although humorously, I've seen it noted that Cesar is still limited to 'boots and cats', lol). Geoff actually taught Layne how to beatbox after their original beatboxer (Scott Porter) left the group. You can see instances of the other folks in the group beatboxing in various videos (ACA Top 10 Old School Rap, Greatest Showman medley, Death of a Bachelor, and probably a few others I'm forgetting). In this case, I would guess that it was almost certainly a case of multitracking Layne's vocals and beatbox.
Another fun fact: The ghost sounds are done by Elizabeth of The Charismatic Voice, who I happen to think you should TOTALLY do a collab with! Of course, I'm biased, both of you being in my "Top Five Favorite Professional Musician Reactors" list. And my sister is a retired Choir Director/Drama Teacher, so I'm a little biased towards y'all anyway. Of course, she's much more bossy! (Aren't kid sisters required to say that? LOL! Nah, love her dearly!) 💙
I'd love to collaborate with her and other creators! I am a small channel though and don't expect a bunch of creators to know who I am so I don't expect it to happen but it would be pretty cool collaborating and hearing other perspectives on pieces live from other vocal professionals =) (plus I think the videos would be a good mix of varying chaotic energies and actual insight xD)
@@DravenGal I've seen a few of her videos (8 -10 roughly) and from what I've seen from her, she has a bubbly personality and a genuine appreciation for music which I respect greatly =)
VoicePlay is one amazing group, and they clearly LOVE Halloween! So many of the songs on my Halloween playlist are from them. Thanks for introducing me to this one, Daniel.
"Hide and Seek" is a song produced by Ho-ong-i, and performed by VOCALOID SeeU. (in Korean) the English version was done in 2014. Lauren Paley (known as the stairwell siren) has a version of this in the stairwell defiantly worth the listen (both full length and her Tick Toc version) if you have not heard her stuff done in the stairwell you are missing out.. it adds a naturally creepy effect the Voiceplay team is set in the haunted mansion ride characters.. behind geoff is the busts for the ghosts. So they set it into the haunted mansion. The Bass Gang also did a deferent style interpretation of "hide and seek" also with Lauren Paley and they were released the same month
Geoff and Eli both beatbox and it wouldn't surprise me if Cesar picks up some of the basics as you never know when Layne may ask them to all beatbox again as he did in The Showman Medley. Thanks for the R/A, thoroughly enjoyed it!!
I knew nothing about the Disney mansion before seeing this - and I didn't see Elie on the wall behind him until the 4th or 5th watch! Great video! Great rection! Love your VP reactions!!
Hello,Daniel. I found your channel about a month ago and really enjoy it. In fact, I just binge watched all of your VoicePlay content this last weekend. I intend to binge your Geoff Castelucci playlist later tonight then you Home Free one after that. I enjoy the level of enthusiasm you show the music and through that the artists. I do have a tiny request however. My eyesight isn't as good as it once was (don't get old 😊) so sometimes the small insert screen is hard to see. Although the music is the star, being unable to see all the video has to offer is a bit difficult for me. I watch on a 10" Kindle so things are quite small as the video screen takes up about 1/6th of the screen. I hate to be a choosing beggar, but can you increase screen size a little? I am not talking about full screen with you in a small box in a corner. Maybe 1/4 of the screen? I hope you continue on you exploration of VoicePlay as they have so much great music to offer. If I were to suggest any songs I would suggest: Oogie Boogie Song, Drunken Sailor, The Halo Theme and The Dragonborn Comes. As always, watch all the way to the end especially for Drunken Sailor. 😊 👋 Thanks for reading this
Oh Gosh! you need to react to the Bass Gang Version of this song, It has a Totally different vibe, and was done with Lauren Paley as well. It is a blast, but creepier.
Great analysis! I've been getting into their earlier stuff now and I really like their Daddy Sang Bass video. Its all about family. If you haven't seen it, watch closely, for the "little" details, it'll leave you smiling. Geoff doesn't do anything super crazy pits of hell notes. Watch the interaction between Geoff and Earl, it's cute and fun.
Such a good reaction, one of my fave from you. And can we talk about how perfect it is to have Cesar in the crystal ball? It just accents his hair so well! Glad he didn't try the mohawk he sports so nicely, I don't think it would have fit!😊💙
I love the way he reacted to the first part of the video. Watching him was almost like watching someone on an actual ‘ride’ - the way his eyes responded to little nifty bits!
You need to watch the version Lauren did with The Bass Gang, which came out at approxinately the same time. Very different take even though both are accapella.
Whimsical... must be one of your favourite words. If I've counted right you said it five times in this video. But in the other ones you never fail to bring it to the board. Just saying... Good reaction and analysis, as always.
I don't often expose myself to playful (whimsical x3) music that often and I feel like I definitely should. Whenever I partake, it's easy to lose myself in the whimsy and light-hearted atmosphere of the piece and I end up hyperfixating on it xD I'll try to not be so monotonous in future videos XD

Grim, Grinning Ghosts is a real nod to The Haunted Mansion. You will love it.

Lauren and the bass gang version of this song is my absolute favorite! Amazing stuff!
Holy cow! I've seen this about 40 times and never noticed that Eli waves and says "hello". I don't know how i missed that!

This is at Layne and Tony's PattyCake Productions studio. Haunted Mansion set. It's part of The Villains Lair series.

Eli's character is one of the portraits, yes. His name is (Ivan?) Nitrokoff.
As always it was fun watching your reaction 😂 and it was interesting at the same time.
Yay! Thanks for reacting/analysing this video. It is so fun.
Totally enjoyable reaction to a fun VoicePlay video
Dang, your intro sounds so nice and welcoming. I like it.
Wonderful!❤ Now you should watch the version Lauren did with The Bass Gang. It's a whole different concept but with awesome vocals as well.
This song is pure fun. Excellent vocals as always but this is one song I always stop and watch the video for.
