    Not sure if you watch other youtube reactors, but "The charismatic Voice" channel actually has a sit down talk and reaction with Layne about this very video. Link not added as some youtubers don't allow the links, you're welcomed to look it up. Layne stated there are over 120 tracks in this mashup. Just a tidbit of info for you Sir Hairless. Have a great day and keep reacting sir.

      CharismaticVoice is super good for interviews, really interesting, she knows what to ask and the responses are normally super chill, doesn't seem forced or formal like "real" interviews (TV, and so on, all the garbage). I agree that it adds a touch to know all the background.

      @@SirHairless Oh, how cool! Wow, I'm that memorable? LOL! Good, I think? I've been told I'm one of the top commentors on Brave Wilderness, and had more hearts than any other commentor. Forty two, supposedly (I remember because that number is answer to "Life, The Universe, and Everything!"). But I think once someone mentioned I was in a thread, that some people got annoyed for whatever reason, because a couple of my hearts got removed. I think BW didn't want to look like they were playing favorites or something.

    Thank you for tackling this! I thought you would have fun breaking this one down, though a lot of work I’m sure. Fun fact: When Cesar stole Geoff’s voice it was actually Layne singing. I was confused on the same part as you when it sounded like Rachel singing but she wasn’t lip syncing. I wondered if she just forgot and no one caught it but could have also been Eli or Cesar singing I suppose. Lots of fun details in this one such as the fire changing color depending on who had the book. When Layne had it the fire was orange but changed to add green at the top like a carrot. The chant was just nonsense Layne made up. And the “Do not loose” instead of lose on the last page was a double meaning. He said do not let it loose from the book. She didn’t lose it, she loosed it. You can see when she pulled it out at some point.

It was nice to see that Layne was able to surprise you at least a few times with his arrangement - the mind of Layne is a strange and amazing place!
    If you're interested (and have time), Layne did an interview with Elizabeth Zharoff (The Charismatic Voice) to discuss all (well, at least some) of the tricks he used in creating some of the sounds that you heard in this video. I'm going to be heading over to that one as soon as I finish here!

    To me (a non-pro musician - bass, guitar, and vocals), the most impressive aspect is just how seamless Layne *did* get the transitions between these pieces - while a few are significant and noticeable, none are jarring, and all *do* seem to follow from the previous piece!

    When I was younger, I wasn't interested in the technical stuff of musical theory, I just wanted to play songs. So I only have some basic knowledge about harmonies, etc. to get along with 'playing by ear'. But I would love to have more understanding of the theory behind the sound. 🙂

    I’m really looking forward to watching you react to more VP videos that feature Rachel Potter. She’s in a rather startling number of them. And she can vary her singing style to great effect as needed - for example, in the Little Mermaid Medley, she sings both Ariel and Vanessa (the Sea Witch as human) in completely different voices. She was spectacular in The Phantom of the Opera (which I think was VoicePlay’s first venture into theatrical videos). And I still think their Wicked medley is in their top five arrangements.

    OMG. You win the entire internet for that King's Singers reference.😍Have you seen their iconic 80's PBS performance, _On Stage at Wolf Trap?_ It's not easy to find--I finally came across a fairly acceptable copy, I believe archived on the Maryland PBS web site, and I'm hoping to one day finish an amateur restoration I've been working on. It included that same arrangement of _Creole Love Call,_ as well as _Masterpiece_ and the overture to _The Barber of Seville_ all done in the same style. But the entire hour or so is absolutely unforgettable. This was fun to watch. Your breakdown, as always, so knowledgeable. I’m not a big fan of Voiceplay honestly, not for lack of trying. If it wasn’t for your reactions to them, I probably wouldn’t listen to them/watch their videos, mainly because in some of their songs, once in awhile there seems to be a slight off key that causes me irritation. I’m not sure why, when the rest of their music is so well done. I appreciate the work they put into everything, especially as you’ve been explaining the intricacies of it all.

    • @thisismetoday7423
      @thisismetoday7423 Месяц назад

      I would like to understand what you mean by off key? Are you talking about dissonance in the chords? Because they are definitely always in key, at least for their final productions. They have multiple singer’s ears, not to mention software and a professional audio engineer that would catch it if any singing was out of tune.

    • @cardbuddy4988
      @cardbuddy4988 Месяц назад

      I’m not speaking to dissonance. It’s just that once in awhile, and not every song I’ve listened to, I hear a vey slight flat note and only for a second. Honestly it could be my own ear distortion for all I know.

    • @thisismetoday7423
      @thisismetoday7423 Месяц назад

      @@cardbuddy4988 I don’t trust my ears because I know I don’t have perfect pitch lol But I do know that professional singers would never release a song with any flat or sharp notes. And they can verify it with software that is better than the human ear 😅

    • @SirHairless
      @SirHairless  Месяц назад +2

      Thanks! Yes, as thisismetoday7423 has said, there aren't any off-key notes (at least not in the videos I've seen by them). From what I've seen, occasionally some of Geoff's super low notes may be slightly "not perfect" but I don't think these count. This is due to the production of them. Live performances would probably be different, but I've not heard them live yet.

    If you want to see Rachel in her element, I recommend The Little Mermaid and Moana medley. Their Wicked medley is absolutely jaw-dropping and Rachel really lets loose.

    So happy that you dive into this so fast!! As always your analysis and breakdown are fantastic!! Hope you enjoy this one. I LOVE how Layne just unleashed his creative mind to create this masterpiece. I also love sudden transition from Also Sprach Zarathustra to Can Can... it makes me laugh every time. Geoff's eye rolling also had me giggling. Rachel collaborated with VoicePlay quite a bit in the past, and I hope you got a chance to react to some of them (I know your list is long, so I'll be patiently waiting)!!

    3 of these were from Disney's Fantasia - Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, Dance of the Hours, Night on Bald Mountain. Rachel is angry because the guys are stealing the book, setting up new spells, which she didn't think was why they were there. Try out Little Mermaid with Rachel and VP. Another one of her goodies is Attention.

    One more comment the chant towards rhe end was a chant Layne made up " Ha e ta ko le emo ne to le ka oo ne ee ta ee ko ee la ke la te"

    One of the things I love about this is that it's exactly the sort of thing Little Me did to "perform" classical music (since I couldn't play an instrument), only they've made it properly musical. One of my most-played tapes as a kid was Music from Fantasia, vying with Holst's The Planets for second place behind the Peer Gynt Suite - so of course I knew Night on Bald Mountain (though for some reason I remember it as 'Bare' rather than 'Bald').

    The funniest part (for me at least) of this reaction is at 17:16 and the piece of music you were expecting. For the life of me i couldn't remember the name of that piece of music... BUT I did remember Allen Sherman's 'Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh' version, so I had to look that up to find out it was the Dance of the Hours :P

      Haha you know what, I knew the Allen Sherman song before I knew it was Dance of the Hours I remember listening to "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh" on my iPod on my way to school

    @7:15 you ask about layers, Elizabeth interviewed Lane over at "the charismatic voice" and they go into all the layers that he did and kind of piece it out.

    Did you notice the carrot at the end of Grundel Layne's part? It's a carrot for the carrot king! The part where Cesar takes Geoff's voice is actually Layne singing! Also check out Elizabeth's interview of Layne about this song over on the charismatic voice.

    And if you didn't catch it- from Night On Bald Mountain on, there's an insane, rapid arpeggio.❤

    Help me out here. The very end--Rachel's final "da-duhn"--seems very familiar to me but I can't place it. I feel like it's a word play, with the finally syllable sounding like "done," but yet I still think I'm missing something. Does this strike a chord with anyone?

    • @amberlynYT

      In the interview with Elizabeth from Charismatic Voice, Layne said that Rachel is in fact saying "Done" at the end of the song there, iirc 😊
