Nice quick informative info on the 660 carb basics. I like the way you delivered the information. Keep up the great videos. I'm gonna take a second look at my seals😘
Well said... Definitely helped me see where im lacking understanding.. Appreciate the quick to the point vid. No fancy intro, just great detailed info.. Doc
I only used the sealant until my new seals came in. Before putting new seals in i suggest cleaning inside of the bowls again. Leaking through tube on bottom of carb is causr float adjustments are off. Float is sitting too high. Adjust it down little by little until its not leaking. If adjusted down too much the carb wont get enough fuel.
typically u should rejet with bigger exhaust. try running no filter. and also if your floats dont open fast enough it wont allow enough fuel to get in the carbs
Both carbs are in use at all times one is not high and one low one just has extra jet for starting it has 2 cylinders so both pistons would have to get fuel constantly one for each piston. Both carbs have a main jet and pilot jets
Ey man good video. I am working on a 03 660r lots of extras. Was built for racing on sand dunes. Guy I bought it from thought it was too much. I think itd be perfect if damn carb wasent leaking. Found all kinds of external seals a miss. If small tubes on bottom of carb are leaking that would mean an internal clog or floats off correct? Sure I will have to open it b4 putting it back on my bike. Also how long would you expect the sealant you used to hold? You said temporary. And was that you used just a rtv?
floats arent lifting up enough to stop flow. but if you set them too much you wony get enough gas. i believe 13 mm is the about measurement for the floats. cut a piece of cardboard at 13 mm. turn carb in its back where the floats rest by itself. with bowls of it should be 13 mm from carb rim(part where bowl meets carb) to the top of float. do not push with finger. it will make adjustment off
Hey bro your video is amazing. The quad launches perfect but when I get passed half throttle it lacks power and kinda sputters what do you suggest I do next ??
If you the wrong way to fix that. Tape half of the airbox inlet off. I know I'm an idiot , but mine was doing the same thing . Even brought it into the dealer . They wanted me to buy new carbs. I taped the inlet and it runs like brand new.
Got a 01 raptor 660. Just rebuilt the carb and it'll start up just fine but can't give very much throttle and it'll start bogging out and back firing. I noticed in your video you had your mixture screws at 2 & 2.5 turns. I put mine back in the same way they were when I took it apart and they were 3 & 3.5 turns. You think adjusting those would help? Also I didn't know about float height I'm assuming that would make a difference too..
Float height will over flow carbs if not done right. Gas will pout out. If not enough it will not stay running. With the back firing re adjust the carbs to my settings. Make sure theres no exhaust leaks. That will cause a back fire too.
Insane job!! Question please my raptor 660 2001 Does not whant to idle!! Have to hold trottle And the jets they mixed them up where i tryed to get it fix!!!!😢 Thanks
Hi Cody, thanks for the 660 video. What advice can you give me for adjusting for altitude? I'm starting at 6,000' which is about where the bike is jetted for now. I'll be summitting 8,500 to 10,000' then returning to 6,000'. What lets should I carry with me for the trip? i'm afraid I hit 8,500' and there wont be alot of power....Thanks for the help.
pull the carbs. check the jets and make sure the floats are allowing enough fuel to the bowl. if too little fuel it will lean out and back fire. but it will still idle fine
I have a 2001 fully stock raptor660r and I wanted to install an HMF high performance exhaust and they are telling me that I have to buy a jet kit for it too. Can I just adjust the two screws on each carb, like on ur video, the screws on ur video that are across from the throttle adjuster? Or do I have to install the jet kit? two full turns on the carb closest to the adjuster and one full turn to the other carb would maybe do it instead? and do I turn the screws clockwise or counter? TY for ur help man, I bought the quad recently but I've really become attached to it and want to hook it up. with that being said would you recommend that I do something before I change the exhaust? sorry I have so many questions, I could really tell by ur video that not only do you know ur stuff but you enjoy the quads like I have started to. Basically, what would you do first, 2nd etc. to this raptor 660r if it was yours? Damon
Hey my raptor 660r is over heats when cruising on the trials with my kids but if I gun it. It will not over heat. I'm using dynojet 144 for the low and 146 for the high. For the needles it's at number 4.
Hi thank you for a very informative video. The question " I bought a new carb (aftermarket) and had a young adult put it on, weel , three months later I just said give it back and now we cant get it started. I inherited this machine from my husband and just wanted to ride it for summer than sell. was suppose to be easy to get it running after a couple years sitting ran, started up before he took it abut leaked gas from carb. I thought it would be better to purchase a new carb rather than have the kid rebuild the carb. Carb was about 55. for new one I thought it would save some money since the kid was thinking it was a racing bike and getting very expensive filters etc, so was I an idiot for buying new? so how to I start it and I haven't rode in about 12 years, had a 250 blaster with kick start . I believe this has a electric start but my nephew tried to start it and it wouldn't so I am assuming something with carb. do you have any tips
Its gonna be time consuming but the floats are out of adjustment. You have to bend the tab just right.with the carb flipped it rests the floats closed. It should be about13 mm from the housing to the rim of the float.
Hey man I’ve got my carbs set on 3 turns on both it cranks up perfect sets idles perfect give it gas does great it revs up great wheni take off in first it’s good but when I hit 2nd ,3rd etc to open her up it wants to go but then it will like bog down on me and won’t accelerate to wide open I’ve also got the needles both on 4 notches what do you think I should do… I was thinking maybe going down another notch on both needles to hopefully it will give me more gas when I try to open it up what yu think
My quad when gets warm d up has a low rpm sputter when I first get on it but then comes out of it. At higher rpm. .I have pipe stage 2 dyno jet k n. Pro Flo kit modded box.
rejet kits are real cheap. and make sure air fuel ratio is right. it will change as you modify exhaust. remember...bigget exhaust, more air excapes. so youve gotta allow for more air to enter. air makes a world of difference in combustion. so youve gotta adjust fuel with it. exhaust leaks and intake leaks also can cause issues
i have a 2008 raptor 660 it won't past half throttle it starts to bogg out carbs are clean but my shop dude says since i took the stock exhaust off an put a aftermarket i need to re-jet the bike ...what you thank ......aftermarket hmf pipe an i used my E-47 exhaust an it still dose not full throttle
Mine idles fine but won’t take throttle. It stumbles and backfires when you throttle. It came without a plate over the throttle on carb and no air filter.. I installed both
yes i have a 03 raptor 660 as well an when i start it an rev it ut back fires then when i get to 3rd gear it starts to backfire and kind of pull back is that the same reason in this video I would have to clean the carbs
I have a 2003 raptor 660r, i have to hold the electric start for like 30 seconds for it to start and when it does it feels like it doesn't ride good. I can slightly give it throttle but if I don't full throttle it almost the whole time it tries to die like its flooding or something... Its also shooting out some blackish smoke, nothing crazy yet but something noticeable. Hoping my air/fuel screw just needs adjusted or jets need swapped. I have a 2 brothers exauhst and that's about it, what should I do?
I am having trouble getting my raptor 660 to start I got hosed buying it on Craigslist so I replace the whole top end and everything else including wiring except the gears in crankcase it started first shot but after I turned it off it won’t start again any ideas
I have a 2003 raptor 600 with K&N air filter and after market exhaust, what main jets should I run? What size piolts? And that third one on the left how big should that jet be? And the needle clip piston? Also still 2 and 3 turns out on air/fuel? Please lmk thanks
Pete Pelletier thanks man. Go 2 steps up when jetting. You may have to play around with the float after the fact if it doesnt keep enough fuel in the carb bowl at wot.
Hey I just rebuilt a raptor 660r 01 including the carbs , I changed the compression to 11:1 with a high compression piston an the set carb to manual specifications and when I start it i can't get it too accelerate it just sputters , any suggestions?
Fivepoint OH I have an 02 raptor 660 and it rides fine with choke off but you gotta keep giving it some gas. But to let it sit and idle, i gotta put the choke on. If the choke is off and you let off the throttle completely, it will die. What could be the issue
HELP!!! I have a 2003 Yamaha 660R Raptor that I just took for a ride down the road with my son nice and easy we'll say and when I pulled up to the garage when done my airbox was full of oil which leaked out the bottom of the airbox everywhere do you know by chance why it did this? I am at a loss?
wow I've been looking for this exact content have a problem with my Raptor good on idle and putting around and up in the top of the throttle it's good but in the middle it sputters I've been messing with my quad for the past 2 weeks everyday spent I don't even know how much money on little stupid whatever's put a new choke assembly on cuz it was going bad but bought new float valve kits new Jets two and four steps down that didn't fix shit I'm back to the Jets better supposed to go to it I got a big bore stage 2 cam aftermarket exhaust what should I try next?
rebuilt my carb the other day set a/f screw to 2 and 3 quad tries to start just won't start any ideas of what to adjust or check as long as I push the throttle it'll pick up a little bit and almost starts but won't please help any suggestions to try I'm open to
I have an 02 660 new carbs aftermarket it runs fine starts right up you can give it full throttle wants give it full throttle again and it’ll stall out but if you stay in the throttle it will stay running wide-open what’s my problem new jets
my needle valve in the right carb keeps coming apart spring won't stay on the needle and plunger should I just buy a rebuild kit? has brand new jets already got it in on a trade
Okay so I had my ATV shipped in parts to where I am now (Pakistan) it’s a euro model. Since putting it back together I’ve had a few issues (I’ve gone by the manual guidebook. . Carb problem. I cleaned the filter out and doused it with engine oil to make it stick and I blowed and pumped air through the carb on taking the air filter out and little little bits of silver would come out and be visible in the petrol. Didn’t work! Overflow pipes are throwing out alot of fuel and to basically stop that and prevent it I’m having to leave the fuel on half or less than half on like literally a little up from off. Now I need to open up the carb and clean it n check the float levels. Can anybody guide me or give me any advice as where I am now there isn’t a mechanic or anyone who specialises in these machines so I’m gonna have to go about it myself. . I have a tooth on the front sprocket broken, which I think may have something to do with the bike not going in neural when switched on. My question is if I were to get it repaired as it’s only 1 tooth on the cog would it be okay or would it be best to replace the part as a whole (remember I’m in Pakistan there’s no part market for this and will be a long wait in the post) so could it be possible to repair that sprocket cog. The bike does go in neutral but only when switched off does not happen when started. . Choke problem. The chokes basically still too high or fast even at the lowest point as in the bike still warms up even when it doesn’t need to and then gradually heats to a point where the bike turns off and the cooling fan comes on. . hey Cody, i have a 2003 660 raptor and the left manifold (if u see it when you got on the atv) was drilled and my bike does not start, help me please! thanks
I have a questions about a 01 Raptor 660, the float leaks fuel and when i start it the idle is really high then dies like it's running lean. What should I do?
I have a 2002 raptor 660r that I just got guy said that it would be hard to start and would die and I got it and it will turn over great but will not start I’ve tried stater fluid but still doesn’t start
My carb idle just fine but I can't rev it, if I try slowly it won't rev high and backfires, if try quickly in just sucks in air and almost stalls. Any idea? 155 both sides, 2 turns, 2nd clips position for needles.
I picked up a old Yamaha twin 4 stroke quad with no info at all , is the 660 the only twin 4 stroke out there? It could be just a hack mod I suspect look like the pipes are diy weld and are down piped 2into1 never seen any stock like it ?
Hey Man, I got a a question I wanted to ask to see if you could help. My buddy's Raptor starts to sputter when you try to get on the throttle. It wnt even go half throttle distance before it starts to pop and afterfire out of the exhaust. What do you think I should do? Back out the micture screws for more fuel?
I have a 2001 660 got it carbs where clogged from setting a year cleaned new o rings on jets new gasket seals every where but no matter what it's idling extremely high and want change
Nice quick informative info on the 660 carb basics. I like the way you delivered the information. Keep up the great videos. I'm gonna take a second look at my seals😘

That is great info. I’ve been having problems with these new carburetors I put on mine. I don’t think the air and the fuel is set, right

The best i seen on 660 i working on a 04 it will idle you hit the throttle it just pops backfires and dies out the crabs
If you the wrong way to fix that. Tape half of the airbox inlet off. I know I'm an idiot , but mine was doing the same thing . Even brought it into the dealer . They wanted me to buy new carbs. I taped the inlet and it runs like brand new.
check exhaust leaks and intake leaks. most of the time a bad exhaust leak draws air and leans it out. more throttle more air pull. id start there
thank you for this video, helped out great

Insane job!!

Does not whant to idle!! Have to hold trottle

So is it 2 turns out on the left and 3 on the right? Some people say 3 on the left and 2 on the right? Wich one is correct? Or wich one works best?
Got a 660 kepp back fireing put new carbs on back fires a little bit
I have the 686 and when I go downhill, the carb seems to open up and wants to hit max rpm, any idea on what keeps causing this?

hey Cody, i have a 2003 660 raptor and the left manifold (if u see it when you got on the atv) was drilled and my bike does not start, help me please!
thanks
2 and 3 on the fuel screw for aftermarket pipe ?
I have a questions about a 01 Raptor 660, the float leaks fuel and when i start it the idle is really high then dies like it's running lean. What should I do?
Have a raptor 660, I touch the throttle and it sputter horribly, I got further and it back fires

How can you adjust the throttle body I seen most of your videos but have not seen any set.
Sounds fuel related. Usually they rev up before running out of gas

Alejandro Suarez did you fix it mine does the same thing? Thanks

You still doing work on four-wheelers?
I have a 2001 660 got it carbs where clogged from setting a year cleaned new o rings on jets new gasket seals every where but no matter what it's idling extremely high and want change
Kenny Morton make sure the throttle cable is in the carb right. It slides all the way down only one way.
Cody Sheets I'll check that I notice when hitting throttle with engine off the slide never raises just a flap behind the slide is all that moves
How do you get the niddle guide out?
I install a new carburetor it runs but wen I push the gas it won't rev
