Straight peat moss works great. At one point I had 55 blueberry bushes in pots with just peat moss. I did fertilize them with a fertilizer for blueberries.
500,000 subscribers! Congratulations to both of you!!! So happy you are rewarded for your hard work. Remember the very first video I watched, you were making a wheat wreath... Have seen all your videos since then. Thank you very much for all the inspiration.
Hi Laura and Aaron! I don't have blueberries, not yet anyway, but will share with my son-in-law. He is struggling with his blueberries. Thank you for sharing!
Garden Answer this is the second time you replied to one of my comments and can I tell you how much that meant to me! It’s kind of silly isn’t it! I so love the joy your videos bring to my day! Not to mention the inspiration. I have 3 “hay racks” because of you! And so much more!
Hello, For acidity I just put an inch diameter of Alum in the soil below the drip. I do this once a month. It works like a charm. I use it in flowering plants like rose and citrus who need acidic soil. It's a very cheap alternative. Alum in my country is like 10-12 cents a kg :D
CONGRATS to you and Aaron on your 500k subscribers! I always enjoy watching your videos whether its of interest or not. You provide so much info and I really appreciate your hard work and dedication in keeping us in the garden-know-how!
I just can’t stop looking at the hanging baskets behind you. So pretty! 😍😍 Can’t wait for more spring planting & projects videos. Congrats on having 500k subs 🎉
Have you shown an update on your blueberries yet? It’s getting to that time for the garden centers to have them and don’t want to go overboard on cost if I don’t have to. If you did an update in your question and answer videos could you please add that to your resource list? Please please please. I also found bird netting at the DollarTree. Thank you for all you do to educate and allowing us to come along on your family’s journey. Happy Spring!
Congrats on 501k Subs Don't forget if your Blue Berries flower while still indoors dont forget to let the Bumble Bees in to pollinate them or the blossoms will just drop off and no fruits will form. The natural places to find Blue Berries is in Pine Forests so you are 100% correct about the sun requirements.
Thank you so much Laura! I was searching everywhere for this video on how to apply the soil acidifier to berries. I grow sunshine blue blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries down here in Central Florida and just got the soil acidifier from home depot. I can't wait to see how it works. My plants are a few years old and starting to get big, so I figured it was time to freshen the soil and add some rich nutrients in with it. Thanks again! It's always so great to see you! 🌱🐞
Congrats! Half a million🥳🥳what an achievement! Its no surprise given your talent, on screen presence, Aaron’s behind the scene magic and the sweetness Benjamin and Russell add🌿💕🌵💚
Thank you for this video! My family are having trouble with our blueberry plant, 3rd year and they haven't produced! I will definitely be showing them this video! Thank you lots and keep up the good work!
Wow congratulations on 500K subscribers!!! Great coffee with Laura video and I was just looking at our blueberries in the work garden thinking they needed something and now I know where to start as well as what to do if we get more plants!!!
I was just looking at terra-cotta pots and l❤️ the big size. Moving it will be exciting!! 💪🏽 I will strengthen the muscles! Blueberries in pots are an excellent idea. 🌳
I am SO HAPPY you got some blueberries!! I've been hoping you'd do a video about them; If mine are in the ground (Boise) when and how often should I add sulphur or something acidic? I love all your tips and tricks. I'm close to you so everything applies and we have the same taste in flowers so you're covering almost all my plants!! Maybe Bearded Iris one day? Thanks for being awesome.
Thank you for another crop how-to. This blueberry plant has been on my list for awhile but kept pushing it back because of the soil requirements. I think I'm confident now that I can do this!!! 😍
I planted two of them in my garden last year. One got rotten and one flourished. Now I'll buy different kind so they both will produce better results. Thanks for the great informative video.
Congrats on 500k! Hello from Killarney, south west Ireland. I have watched all your videos since I found you - most of them more than once. I just love listening to you and I learn new techniques all the time. Not sure if you used the phrase ‘breaking the root memory’ quite sometime ago. I would not have dreamt of playing with the roots but now I smile and think of Laura. I have been trying to grow all kinds of plants in containers -bulbs do very well, but the dreaded vine weevil really loves heuchera and no plant is really safe. I need help preparing a border, so fingers crossed.Rambling on, my first ever comment, so please forgive me. I enjoy reading comments from others. You both have built a super gardening community, great credit due to you. Thank you for sharing Benjamin with us, he is so cute. Lots of love Sile.
Congratulations on 500,000 subscribers!! I love watching and hearing you! Love seeing Benjamin and Russell. You inspired me to plant a garden. After watching you plant tulips on a raised bed, I planted tulips in a container and I am in love with them. THANKS FOR YOUR DEDICATION. YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION🌸🌹🌻🌺🌷🌷🌷
@@gardenanswer , Laura, we're congratulating you guys on hitting the 500,000 mark just YESTERDAY and today, you nearly have a THOUSAND MORE. Woot!~ (500,907!)
I have one bluberry plant in a half barrel, I have it by my garage where I have bee balm, fuschia and other pollinated and I get loads of blueberry every year. This will the third season and it doing great.
Thanks for all the great information. I know what I have been doing wrong with my blueberries! You sure have a lot of gardening issues in your area! Continued success on You Tube and beyond. 😎🌹🦋
Congratulations on 500k subscribers! Love your channel and my plants, flowers and shrubs do too. I’ve seen a tremendous difference in my plants since I’ve learn how to fertilize and care for them correctly. I’m always sharing your videos with my clients and friends that ask me about my little garden.
Congrats 500k!! I am always excited to watch a new video of yours! You inspire me. Here in MN we are getting an early spring snow storm today. Cant wait to get out in my garden!!
Congratulations on hitting 500,000 subscribers! You guys certainly deserve it. 🙂 I love blueberries, I think that's going on my bucket list. All your plants in the background are lovely. 🌹
This is very timely as I have blueberries in 2 gallon pots from last year & was looking to transplant to larger containers. Mine bloom early & then a month later. A 22 in is probably not quite big enough for both together at this point, but will make sure to keep them close to each other. They are leafing out & getting buds now. Western WA weather is definitely different than yours so mine love as much sun as possible.
Wow I just planted by blueberries in a pot yesterday this is good advice. I hope mine will survive I did not put holly or acidic soil. Thanks Laura for this video.
You can still add those things! I just wouldn’t add quite as much and try to work it down into the soil as much as possible without upsetting your plants.
Could you guys show us more ideas for growing fruit in small spaces? Maybe what works to plant in a raised bed to get the most fruit bang for your buck?
Unless they are dwarf varieties, two in one pot is crowded. The varieties you planted get to be 6' wide and tall. You did say the growth was less in a pot. Blueberries can live 50 years. The patriot blueberry gets huge berries! They're northern highbush. I know this because I was researching blueberries for where I live, which requires southern highbush. I really enjoy your videos, but you're costing me a small fortune! I'm going to try that jug sowing that you had a video about!
No one has the azalea, camelia and rhododendron potting soil here, so thank you so much for providing a recipe. It's been a real headache trying to figure out what the blueberries I just bought need.
My blueberry plant is in a clay pot and has been happy for years in there, and lots of fruit! he's huge now so I need to transplant him. This video was very helpful for transplanting because I don't know what kind of soil to really use, I just guessed. Can you do a raspberry video? Really helpful, you know I have been struggling with finding acid soil mix in my area, and just couldn't get the recipe which works. I use this recipe which I found somewhere on the internet and is 50% peat moss and 50% compost or soil, the result is 50:50, I guess I could use your recipe but in my case I want to grow it in the ground not in pots. Thanks Visar from Kosovo
Hi Laura I bought 1 blueberry plant from Stark Brothers it said it was a self pollinating plant I did not know it was OK to plant 2 plants in pot 🤔 SO should I buy a second plant?? I have a 20” pot I’m using. Also wanted to ask you QUESTION what do I use if PH level drops to low?????? Please let me know if you can. That would be great. Thank you always
Did you test your soil? To raise the PH in the soil apply a material that contains some form of lime. Lime/Limestone is used because it contains calcium, magnesium, or both, which are both alkaline components. If you have a wood burning stove take the wood ash and sprinkle around your plant. (Free method) or you can purchase Dolemite Lime pretty inexpensive. Most gardening centers have it. Love from Seattle ❤️
I'm having to yank my Duke Blueberry out and start a new mix with Sphagnum Peat moss and Pine Bark Mini Nuggets, the acidity will not be leached out by rain, I will add garden soil and perlite to get better drainage but I will see if the Duke cheers up since the soil amendment via soil acidifiers are not working.
I have some giant terra cotta pots like that. The only bummer is that if you leave them outside for the winter (at least here), they may eventually break. The big rolled edge broke completely off of one of mine this year. I was *very* sad. I think you are supposed to empty them of all the soil and turn upside-down for the winter and maybe cover them with burlap or something. Since mine are filled with perennials, I was never planning to empty mine. I am planning to switch to fiberglass pots as budget allows.
