    At 39 yrs young, my Orthopedic told me I'd need a knee replacement by time I was 50 unless I built my leg muscles up like a football running back. Well, I believed him and started working out at the gym, lifting weights, some cycling but not much then. I still liked driving everywhere, even to a shop errand to the store. That was 21 years ago. I do have arthritis in that knee. It is "The Big Knee" lol and after a long bike ride (25-50 miles) it gets very stiff. No cortisone but I do take supplements. It's missing a ligament I tore out in my early 20's playing basketball. One of my favs after a long ride is sitting in the cold ocean here in PNW to help with pain, swelling. I have recently begun consuming Medicinal tea I brew from plentiful supply of Red Belted Conch (Polypore). Number One Advice to offset knee replacement is WALK. Walk where you need to go within a mile. Take the Transit bus and walk some more if it's a little further. Are you really in that big a hurry that you always have to drive? I doubt it. We weren't built to ride in cars. When consider the hours you waste watching TV or movies. Carry a few bags back from market to increase the workout. And I do drink lots of water as a regular habit. As part of my Community Volunteer effort, I pick up trash on the Beach here our Tourist leave. Well, that's more walking with resistance but intentional and more scenic as it also helps me help my community and my knee.

      Hey BigCatMojo! Sorry to hear about your arthritis knee. You probably get stiff in the knee after a long bike ride because you're overusing your quads. You've got to make cycling more glute dominant. Walking too! Walking is absolutely great as long as it doesn't irritate knee problems and you're making your glutes work while walking. Walking without using glutes is likely to eventually hurt knees since the individual will probably be using quad muscles dominantly while walking.
      That's great that you help keep the beaches clean! Our oceans and beaches need more people like you!

    On the increased water, 8x8 rule. I've asked the doc about this and one can drink too much which is not good for the kidneys; drink til you feel hydrated. I can only do 2-3 liters per day. I Always eat fruit and celery. Thanks for another good video 🙂

    Hello Dr. David,
    I watch your videos and I like them . They are very helpful and informative.
    Thanks!
    I am a 59 years old and have a mild Osteoartritis on both knees ( the left one started a bit pain 2 years ago, and in 8 month ago the right one started painfull. X-rays show mild level on both. Having too much pain during sleep times on my left knee made me to have painkillers like Naproxen, and then Indomethacine.
    None of them worked for me, so I visited my Rheumatologist to get injection (Viscogel type) to improve my cartilage, not Corticosteroid injections which is a painkiller. I did also physiotherapy and some light exercises every day to strengthen and balance my muscles (especially buttmuscles).
    My question is that if go directly to a healthy natural therapy why my rheumatologist did not offer me Gel injection instead of Corticosteroid since by the time going on my knees get worse and I donot want to be late for gel injection when cartilage is disappeared and no more regeneration would be possible ( if I am right)?
    So, please advise me what to do?
    Thanks Dr. David

    Another great video for my knees!! I have a knee replacement on the right, and my left knee has a little bit of cushioning left on the lateral side. However, I can feel that it's getting worse. I'm going to try some of your exercises to see if I can extend the life of it some more. A problem I have now is that about 3 weeks ago I developed pain below my right knee replacement, extending like a band along the top of my lower leg. There is a small area toward the lateral side in the front that has a sharp pain. Tomorrow I see my ortho doc. Hoping it is not something serious.

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  3 года назад +1

      Hey PanamaRose! Sorry to hear about your knee troubles :-(
      Hopefully you can get more out of both knees using the information from our videos! A band of pain right below a knee replacement site and the pain on the outer front of the knee - this sounds like you've got over pressure in your knees from a muscle imbalance. This is treatable with the right exercises.
      This playlist of videos would be the right one for you:

      Hey Bibi a Ali! There's only 1 way to find out right! 😉
      Give this a try and see if your knees get better. What do you have to lose!?
      If you get better then you might avoid surgery. If you continue to decline, then you might choose to go for the knee replacement.

      For kidney problems you definitely need to listen to your doctor and follow water restrictions precisely. You can't live without your kidneys! But you can live without a knee.

    I'm sorry, you lose me when you recommend supplements for which there is no clinical evidence--including glucosomine and chondroiten, and turmeric--and recommend a supplement that costs $30 a month. It's basically snake oil. And it gets worse when you talk about stem cells--there is NO clinical evidence that these work. I know someone who tried. Maybe someday, but not yet. I'm with you on exercise and PT. I know whereof I speak. I have two bone-on-bone knees (and two arthritic hips, as well as a badly arthritic ankle.) and have been trying to avoid replacements for years, but I finally have scheduled the first one. I WISH this stuff worked, but with the exception of the cane and PT, there just isn't proof. This stuff does not work. If what you're going after is placebo effect, great, but people need to find an orthopedist they can work with and not rely on this information.

    • @KathyBGood
      @KathyBGood 3 года назад

      Can you please cite your sources for the clinical studies on the items you mentioned: glucosamine chondroiton, turmeric & stem cells? Thanks in advance.

      i have stopped all supplements as i found that they are mostly strange additives and lots of junk. i have been making fresh plant medicine that has been helping me. one of the most helpful plants i have used is blooms from the linden tree also known as a bass wood tree this tincture i made from fresh plant has taken the inflammation down enough in my knees that i can squat and get back up! i have learned to make plant medicine from a woman on youtube , i have made meds from like 20 different plants and have had positive results but i use way higher dose than perhaps most humans. it is great, going on 1 and 1/2 years using plants.

      Hey Pro Life Film! It sounds like you're commenting on the wrong channel! Either you meant to comment on an abortion channel OR you don't agree with the possibility of naturally helping knee problems and avoiding knee replacement surgery.
      If it's the latter that you intended, please unsubscribe from our channel (if you haven't already) so we don't come up on RUclips for you.
      This information is just not right for some people and that's okay! We hope you find the best information for your needs :-)
