      Probly not, actually. 4:3 ratio content tends to look like garbage on modern TV's. To be fair, 4:3 content looked like garbage back then too. We just didn't know any better. Sitting further away from (what used to be big) 32" TV's with way fewer pixels the image looked ok. But once you get close it falls apart. Not to mention a 32" CRT tv weighed a ton.

  • @donlarson679
    @donlarson679 4 года назад +1

    Dennis, I'm DEEPLY impressed w/ your tenacity in the unboxing & set-up of this beast. IMHO, when dealing with a TV in this PRICE and SIZE range, it is definitely time to pop for pro installation and calibration. Just avoiding the set-up for each SDR, HDR, etc., etc., per HDMI port (no less!) is surely enough to justify the $250 - $400 that a pro installation and calibration will probably cost you. The unboxing alone would justify the cost of the pro, for me. The assembly, wall hanging, and connection and calibration would almost be a bonus for me!
    NB: Make sure your calibration tech knows what kind, brand, and model of set he's coming to work on so he can have the Roku Pro set-up application and the right calibration tools with him. (When I say "tools" it is all software/contained in various applications, but some of it is restricted distribution, as in professionals and dealers only and the rest isn't easy to find on their various websites. Warn the guy.)

    part of the unboxing, is also to really see the TV when you're buying online and there's only one picture shown in the website. in a video you can really see how thin it is / etc ... I always look at unboxing before I buy.

  • @therealchickentender
    @therealchickentender 4 года назад +2

    Cheers, Caleb. :)
    Hope both of your backs are OK after this setup. I somehow successfully setup and placed a 55" C9 two weeks *by myself* (which involved lots of creative coffee-table moves and towel placement with ad-hoc cantilevering/leveraging haha) but almost called it halfway through. At least we're past the giant rear-projection days (though those had casters I suppose).

    • @Caleb_Denison
      @Caleb_Denison 4 года назад +1

      Dude, I actually think the 36-inch Toshiba CRT I had was worse to move than some rear PJs. It was the plastic base with these super thin plastic support strips underneath that threatened to cut your fingers off. Never again!

    • @therealchickentender
      @therealchickentender 4 года назад

      @@Caleb_Denison Hahaha - yeah I'm familiar. I worked in IT distributed computing for many years back then and moved my share of those for the graphics folks when flat panels were still too cost prohibitive for all but the big-wigs. (Luckily the *really* big ones were conf rooms and generally just *stayed* there once they arrived.) Never had a CRT that large in my home though. I think I topped at 28 or 32 thereabouts. Funny how quick it's all changed and we don't think about it that often.

    • @therealchickentender
      @therealchickentender 4 года назад

      @@teknerd I've a sneaking suspicion I won't learn that lesson entirely until it's taught to me in a similar manner. Though to be fair, I didn't do any actual lifting of it - like I said, there was lots of creative cantilevering involved. :) And if it'd been a 65" and not the 55" I'd have waited. The biggest issue with that set was the inability to lift from any one spot only, due to the construction of the ridiculously thin screen panel - no other meaningful outer structure exists. If I have to ever move it any distance, a buddy'll be required for certain. (edit: also, yikes - hope you're well on the mend and feel back to normal soon!)

    First time I 've seen criticism for the box size on a TV. Not sure a Samsung, Sony, or LG somehow use smaller boxes for their large screen sets, but whatever.
    Somehow the other manufacturers don't get critiqued for their ultra wide feet, but TCL gets a whine because you actually have to hold the stand while you screw it in? Makes this set fit on a lot more existing furniture, rather than going through the effort and expense of wall mounting or getting a new wider stand.
    I always thought that as you move up the model ladder that you got more flexibility on the sets as far as customization. Apparently I was wrong in seeing this as a positive. Nice to have an option to apply all settings to each input, but having the ability to set things up individually - once - seems to beat having to adjust settings each time you change sources.
    Can't wait for the bashing, er review.

      LCD tv's have to be made with glass. Yes, led tv's are lcd. Led are the backlighting not the picture.

    You think it would be easier if manufacturers ship TVs upside down in the box so that way when you take it out of the box it's at the right position to put the feet on it if you're not going to mount it on the wall?

    That's how u know OLED is a great TV when everybody and every TV manufacturer compares their sets to it lol eventually I'm pretty sure they'll make a better TV that's just how technology is but for now oled is still king. A TV is a TV at the end of the day.

    Living in an old house with small rooms (largest is 12 x 14ft) , 65in is probably my limit. Weight is important, too - TCL lists the TV itself @ over 100 pounds, with package: 160 pounds. SIXTY POUNDS of cardboard ?

    I think it's odd you had to remove the stand mounting screws first to install the stand. My screws came in a bag.

    As you guys review Chinese brands, can you consider reviewing the xiaomi tvs to see if they are good enough also in comparison to price and corners cut? It would be good as most of its reviews are in other languages
