    Things I miss,
    1. The old caution sound, like, the beeps when a caution comes out.
    2. Dodge. They ain’t coming back which hurts even more.
    3. Drivers having one paint scheme and sponsor for 2+ years.
    4. Good nascar movies, like days of thunder, Talladega Nights, that’s pretty much it.
    5. The good quality diecasts you could buy at Walmart. You can still buy them, but they suck. You can’t race them on hot wheels tracks.
    That’s it.

      1. We're not in 2005 anymore, when CGI and SFX were seen as breathtaking
      2. Dodge is dead and buried. If Toyota got some criticism for being Japanese, Dodge will get rip from being Italian
      3. Blame the 2000s administration for crashing Wall St into a literal wall... twice. 1 in 2001, and another in 2008
      4. Herbie Fully Loaded, Cars 1-3, Stoker Ace, I guess aren't NASCAR movies
      5. You guys had diecasts. In my local Walmart, it was just normal toys, no NASCAR ones. The closest was a lightning mcqueen diecast

    I miss:
    1. A points-based system for choosing a champion, one where all races count equally and season-long consistency is rewarded. Brian France had one job to do, and that was "Don't screw up a winning product." He failed. Miserably.
    2. NASCAR bringing a new car out and it had actually been tested and worked as advertised. Oh, wait...
    3. Fewer cameras and gimmick segments. NASCAR didn't always have so many cameras in their broadcasts. They were still good if not better because they didn't have to run commercials every five minutes to pay for them all.
    4. Better announcers would be great. Clint Bowyer is a constant disaster, and Dale Jr. and Jeff Burton sound exactly alike when they get excited as their voices are the same pitch. At least they don't hire danicant...
    5. Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain. Speed showed too many gimmick shows (the old SpeedVision showed a lot more racing), but Wind Tunnel was one of their best. Brad K's drunk victory interview was priceless, for example. I miss Jimmy Spencer too.
    6. I know this isn't coming back, but tobacco sponsorship. Not just in NASCAR, but everywhere. I miss the Skoal Bandit, I miss Joe Camel Racing, I miss Marlboro sponsorship on McLaren F1 and Penske in Indy cars. I think the black John Player Special was absolutely iconic, and Mario won his F1 championship in those colors. And I never smoked, never considered it, but those cars just looked cool.
    7. Yes, I'm aware that I'm old. Many new things are great (safer cars for one), but sometimes things don't always change for the better.

    • @SlimSavageBlanco
      @SlimSavageBlanco Месяц назад

Cling Bowyer is great. Learn to laugh instead of being so serious. Fox and they garbage they present as a professional telecast is what's wrong there. Harvick is great too.
I miss it being Winston Cup but F smoking and the tobacco companies. That stuff always attracts kids to smoking. Don't want it around.
Dale Jr is with Amazon now.
I have watched Nascar for around 30+ years myself. I just do not understand all the crying from the "fans" about the points system now. It rewards more drivers for more situations. Used to be points for lead a lap, leading most laps and your finish position. That's it. Now you can build up points for the playoff by finishing high in any stage.
They regular season champ gets a big boost of playoff points.
Let me take you down memory lane for a second. Besides the rare outlier, almost every single season, the Champ had the thing won with a bunch of races left to go. Kenseth won, I think, one race all year and won the title very easily. That is freaking boring. This system limits how much success a driver has from just being careful and getting consistent top 10s and no DNFs. Screw that, this is racing. Every driver should be doing everything possible to win every week. That didn't happen with the old system. They reward winning and it also allows way more drivers to be in important situations more often. Back in the day if you were outside the top 10 in points, you were laughed at and considered a bum. Those guys were out there turning laps and getting a check. Nothing more. Now if you win, you have a chance. Remember when Gordon won 10 races but Terry Labonte easily won the title with one win and a bunch of top 10s? You can have that garbage.
Now guys like Harvick, Truex, Blaney are champs instead of a "good" career with three or four top three finishes but known as second tier guys. They aren't, they are Elite.
Humans have been terrified of change since the beginning of time. But change is good. That old system would have two or three guys winning it every year. I'll pass.
Part of trying something new is figuring it out. If you think anything on earth is perfect when it starts, you haven't experienced much in life. I love the current car. It looks really nice. And it's a challenge. It's the same reason F1 does the same thing every few years. These teams will figure out every way to cut corners and have these cars perfected if they never give them something new to work with. It also makes the cars on a closer overall playing ground. That makes for better races and more guys able to get a win.
So far this year, two of the closest races ever have happened. Last week Iowa was trashed by everyone then ended up as the best short track race all year.
I'm sick of the negative bs and the "I won't the old way back" "Nascar ruined it". Don't watch. The old days are old for a reason. Find positive reasons to watch instead of only being negative and the product will improve. A negative outlook will make anything you do feel bad. Grow up and act like an adult and it will be better. Kids and bitchy adults are never happy. That's on you. You choose to be insufferable.

I agree so much with the final one the most. There was a desperation of making sure you got the most points at the end of the season. That 27th was valuable for the 60~ points to not get 34 for last place.
Show the engine block, tape the car down, make sure you see the number and get out there for a points finish. Now its, "Eh... Next track we have a good record so we'll try for this one"

    1. Every single race is on network TV (meaning the big Fox and NBC)
    2. The booth. DW, LMC ARE FOX, Allen Bestwick IS NBC. Nowadays we have hacks for booth presenters (not to mention the pit crew on Fox's side)
    3. Crank It Up. Even though it's still used now, it either sucks or is skipped entirely for another cringe skit
    4. ThunderVision. EA Sports and NBC were cooking with this one. Made the race a bit more appealing to gamers and young'uns
    5. Sponsorship prescene. By this, I mean, if a company wants to become an official partner of NASCAR, they have to be established across ALL STATES NASCAR IS IN, NO EXCEPTION. Sunoco isn't on the West Coast, neither is Menard's, Advance Auto Parts isn't in the Northeast and west, and so on. Old sponsors were available everywhere (76, O'Reilly, Home Depot, Lowe's, NAPA, Sprint, Monster Energy, Winston), such a far cry from then

Doesnt NASCAR mean theyre racing STOCK CARS? The rule was you had to be able to buy it from a showroom somewhere. Which is why superbirds were seen on the streets. Now, we call it IROC. Everyone uses the same car, with different stickers, and engines. Superspeedway races are boring until the last 10 laps when 2/4s the field gets wrecked out...
And now pulling crap like not gonna let Larson run for the championship, because he decided to race the INDY 500?? What kind of BS is that? They keep this crap up, theyll be bankrupt in 5 years.

You all really want a system that rewards drivers that drive safe and don't try and win back in place? That's hilarious to me.
Almost everything you named has been changed or is worse in every other sport or event just like Nascar. Everything seems moronic now. That's life.
I stopped watching for around 15 years because I got sick of the points champion winning with a fourth of the season still to go. That was the worst thing ever. I love the current system.
Yeah some things are bad but some make sense. Fewer practices and less having the cars on the track saves money and keeps competition tighter. I enjoy a race where anyone can win.
Calling a win just dumb luck is lazy. Nothing wrong with any guy having a shot to win. How many years have yall watched where there were 20+ cars in the back that everyone knew were never gonna have a shot? That isn't fun.
Sponsors come and go. That's the sport. Always has been. It costs a ton of money and things change in business. I have no problem with a car having a different sponsor occasionally. That's mainly on the owners and drivers actually. They build those relationships and secure that stuff. Nascar doesn't control it.

I've use to go to races since 1987! I use to go to at least one race a year. Then in stopped pretty much in 2007. Went to Kansas in 2014 and tried to make it to Dover in 2023. The France boys and the non driver Elto Sawyer have ruined Nascar! And Fox totally sucks ! I will not get cable again just to watch the crappy FS1! In 2 mos. They only showed 1 race on broadcast Fox! It 's so boring with the Gen7 sports car that I won't spend the money to stream on Sling ! Apparently Fox thinks people want to watch Faux Football!

Can NASCAR remove stages please for the love of god this is not ball sports and I miss when it’s points system. For practice maybe even just a single 1hr practice will suffice it.
