If Dale was the Intimidator, Dillon is the Impersonator
Facts
I came up with something similar a few years ago: "The Imitator".
I read that as imposter.
I'll never forget how he plagiarized the whole "lucky penny" story after his win at the 500
@@marioherron4161 dillon lookin sussy
To be honest, I've never understood why so many people consider winning on fuel mileage a Mickey Mouse win. It's really hard to do.
Right?
Probably because it's the crew chief doing the math and calling the shots, not the driver
@@captainwaffles940 You still have to save the fuel though.
@@captainwaffles940 driver has to save that fuel though
It’s more that just that. It’s that Dillon can only do little. He’s not capable of delivering. He’s won more than he deserves
I think this video is about the most fair I’ve ever seen anyone be to Austin Dillon and his career. Yes he’s definitely lucked into all his wins and been at the right place at the right time, but he still is a decent driver that deserves to be in the cup series shown by his resume in the lower ranks and shown with his 2020 playoff run.
i would like to agree. yeah hes no kyle larson or joey logano or chase elliot but he still got those wins and i respect that. i enjoy seeing him out from a true underdog. especially with Busch at RCR i really wanna see how Dillons gonna perform
Fair, I just think if people hate drivers like Bubba, they just definitely hate on AD too
He’s a decent driver with great equipment. Results?……………….don’t fit the equipment.
How he won what he has isn’t really the point. The point is he doesn’t deliver much. He hasn’t just done less with more (and semi-bankrupted RCR), he’s done so little he’s irrelevant yet long carried himself as something worth a damn. He’ll never be worth a damn
A few weeks back Kyle Busch was asked about the fact his presence hasn’t led to improvement by Dillon. Seriously there’s nothing in Dillon that can be improved
Kyle Busch only has one less career win than AD at RCR. Do with that information what you will.
I was at both the Coke 600 and the Daytona 500. I was starting to think it was my fault he was winning lol.
@Austin Penrod He said "look at me, I'm your driver now" 😅
@@CaptainRedbeard. 😂😂
It is your fault... somehow you were responsible for dillon existing
@@anthonyt219 😂😂😂
Was in the same situation for Stenhouse. Went to Dega and then Daytona just to see him win in 2017, and then this year I was supposed to go to the Daytona 500, but then I couldn’t. I would’ve been to all of his wins though if that was the case.
Small correction and I think you know this too.
The 2018 All Star Race wasn't the first time NASCAR used the restrictor plates at a Non-superspeedway.
2000, New Hampshire.
2 drivers got killed and NASCAR had to do something. So that's what they did.
They did SOMETHING
They also had restrictor plates at Michigan in the 1970s.
Instead of mandating the HANS
Jeff Burton led all 300 laps in that race. The last time anyone has ever done that
I unironically work for a nascar themed ROBLOX game as a staff member, and the amount of times Dillon came up during preseason discussions about who might have a breakout year was insane.
Cool don't care
I care
I also care
i care
Dude that basketball game is so eerie, I remember being at my moms buisness seeing that happen and scrolling for updates on Twitter and seeing all the news unfold, wild times
I agree. It was crazy.
What was eerie is how the whole world freaked out and shutdown over the flu. Ridiculous
They needed to make a splash initially to really sell it.
I remember that too. I was covering a sporting event for my old job when twitter started exploding. I thought “holy crap this is huge.” Little did I know that the next day everything came to a screeching halt.
I’m glad we finally have a video on this. Austin Dillon looks much better in the record book than he does when you actually watch the races
You didn’t mention how in the most recent Daytona race he won he had multiple insane saves and came back from being a lap down.
Wait what saves happened in the coke 400?
You mean the one where he was pushed by his teammate the entire time after the crash and wrecked Cindric? Not to mention that Reddick was in the middle a contract dispute, and he probably didn’t wanna make his car owner mad
What you said about the 47 car in your “Haters Guide to NASCAR 2023” is true here. When Austin Dillon has speed, he doesn’t have finishes. When he has a good finish, he usually doesn’t have speed.
Not a huge Dillon fan but I dont know how many times I've seen Dillon running Top 5-10 all race then DNF. I mean him and Busch looked dominant at Daytona then he got spun into the big one.
Everyone says Fuel mileage wins are Mickey wins and I’ll keep arguing against that till the day the sport dies. It’s a combination of Crew Chief strategy and driver fuel knowledge that wins those races. The rest of Dillion’s wins though, certified Mickey moments
100% agreed. Fuel mileage is strategy, nothing about that is mickey mouse
I agree. Winning on fuel mileage requires the same kind of finesse and cool under pressure that can lead to championship glory.
Hey, a win's a win. That's all there is to it. Don't matter how many laps you lead all that matters is the final lap
1:38 angry hamilton fans who haven't moved on from abu dhabi 2021, called verstappen also a mickey mouse champion cuz of the last lap controversy
It’s funny how this came out while I’m at Disneyland
Holy shit now I know what the Mickey Mouse reference means. Thanks for that 😂
Since I’ve only heard it thrown out about Elliott I assumed it was when a governing body gives a fan favorite an unfair advantage, like how Mickey Mouse is propped up by Disney and has had all charm or personality washed out of him over the years.
I still think Justin Haley is the closest thing we have to a Mickey Mouse. How many times did he win bc the top 2 cars wrecked each other. And let's not forget his cup 'win', where a premature one-to-go and an assist from Zeus gave him the checkered flag. I have nothing against him, but his successes seem to be mostly luck, while the times he actually runs well ending in bad luck.
Haley's only win on pace was his very first truck win. Every other win he has had was either completely luck, on a superspeedway, or both.
@bw-leftturnracing7779 even that he simply just won on a restart
Daniel Hemric is also a Mickey Mouse, only won a single race when it absolutely mattered.
To quote F1 youtuber Josh Revell, "that's just racing".
I think this whole “Mickey Mouse” stuff is unfair. Sports, and all of life, is heavily split of skill and luck. The X Factor is always something to watch out for. He earned those wins fair and square. Just because he wasn’t the perfect athlete doesn’t mean he’s a Mickey Mouse. You shouldn’t disparage a guy because he’s running his granddad’s legendary numbers and not winning like the past.
A win is a win.
As a Martin Truex Jr. and Aric Almirola enjoyer THANK YOU for this video as much as it hurts to watch 😅I didn't even remember Truex also coming up just short in that Charlotte race!
Restrictor plates were used at New Hampshire in 2000.
I feel like people envy that Austin Dillon gets to drive the #3 car and has a name, driving for one of the most historic teams in the garage. Doesn't mean he's Mickey.
He's obviously got good business sense, it was his idea to hire Kyle Busch.
7:57 The NR2003 spotter got me
Austin Dillon is my favorite driver. I totally get the criticism but he’s a genuine family man who loves the sport and RCR as his literal family. AD3 💪🏼💪🏼
facts
Yeah and i mean he is good i think his brake out year will be this year even though so far he cant get a brake he is going to pull more wins soon
Yeah I used to hate Austin Dillon but he has proven to me that he’s not just talented he also a really kind and caring man for instance a few races ago (I can’t remember what one tho) I was at the track with my little sister and she hurt herself on Austin’s car and he climbed out and asked her if she was ok and he carried her to me and he helped me wrap a bandage around her head and ever since that day I have a ton of respect for him
I hope i'm not the only one who thinks AD's scheme from that texas win looked like an Eanrhardt scheme
I agree with this video. I feel like people forget how Mickey Austin Dillon is. However I think he's an alright driver
2 weeks ago, at the Chicago Street Course, Austin Dillon was running in the lead or near it, and wouldn't you know it. He hits the wall and ends his race.
Funny how when he won and made the playoffs, he got out of the first round. But when he made it in 2016 with 0 wins, he made it to the round of 12 😅
At least he deserves a cup ride unlike his brother
wwwwwwwwwwwwww
Yeah his brother sucks!
The 2018 Daytona 500 was ALSO 17 years to the day of Dale's death. It was also the last Nascar race I've been to in person. Went to Darlington after that, but not for the race because it had been raining and the track worker told everyone that the race had been postponed. Stupidly, it finished that night, so my dad and I were robbed out of the already-bought tickets. Still, that makes it ineligible for my last Nascar race, so to the 2018 Daytona 500 that award goes.
If you never made it, it doesn't count. The Daytona 500 was your last in-person race.
Putting all my bias for Dillon aside, i do think the Coke 400 & to a certain extent the Daytona 500 were Mickey Mouse wins, but the Coke 600 & Texas wins i do see as simply pit strategy. While i do believe he's the middest driver of the field, sure some of his wins aren't truly deserved but he definitely has what it takes and deserves his spot in the Cup Series. Hopefully he'll go out and be the class of the field again.
i agree
Nascar used restrictor plates at new Hampshire back in 2000 after the deaths of Kenny Irwin and Adam Petty.
William Byron: Winning races by either the leaders wrecking each other or late race cautions or sometimes both.
Dude i dont dont even like or watch nascar ive always been into cars from oversees but your videos are just so entertaining and they provide a great history of the motorsport. Keep it up!
The 2018 Daytona 500 is imprinted in my head, as I went to a watchparty at a friend's house. I drew Austin Dillon as my "winning driver" and I was incredibly disappointed, especially at the start of the race. I honestly forgot I had him. Come 5 to go, and holy cow the 3 has a shot to win it. I haven't won much but I did win that day. Needless to say I bought that die-cast 2 weeks later at Vegas.
Our great value version of Lance Stroll
That basketball game that never started and Rudy Gobert, man that's the first thing I think when I hear about March 11th and things shutting down. End of normalcy and we are now in a new normal where things won't be the same.
That Nationwide title for Austin Dillon was a fun one for me because I was always told that there was nothing wrong with the Cuppies invading the lower series, especially by one particular NR league's drivers. I was proven right by Dillon's winless Nationwide title and thankfully, we haven't dealt with such atrocities that often since.
Austin Dillon is the weirdest driver in the sport in terms of his career
Why? I’m genuinely curious I’m not mad just wondering
@@commandercody4984 lmfao u good
It’s just he is the grandson of Richard Childress of course he was gonna get a good ride
Wins the truck and Xfinity titles looks like a budding star
Meh 2014-15
Shows promise in 2016
And ever since then he’s just been ehhhh
All his wins have been weird
Just a very odd career
@@JackCallSports true but he’s not a bad driver he’s definitely not like danica Patrick
@@commandercody4984 at least he’s actually WON
The 2023 Bristol Dirt race was one where for 25-30 laps he EASILY had the fastest car. However, the track changed toward the end and couldn't catch Reddick or Bell. Definitely could've won if the track didn't become top heavy in the late stages of the race.
That 2018 Daytona 500 still rubs me the wrong way. Almirola deserved to win that, and Austin just gave up and took the easy way out.
I'm hoping this video puts the phrase "Mickey Mouse ___" to rest. I'm so sick of it 💀
For real. I've never liked Chase Elliott but I don't call him no damn "Mickey Mouse"
didnt realise this was said to be posted a minute ago
As a Heat fan that is exactly how I reacted
am i the only one coming back after yesterday's COTA race thats gonna say that Austin Dillon had a really good day going for himself, just to get ruined? Like he was running top 15-top 5 almost all race, and then his shots at a win get thrown in the garbage. Hoping to see him win soon!
He wasn't super fast but he was racing smart, honestly looked like he was gonna score a Top 5 since he was keeping pace with everyone but Reddick and Byron. But, alas, Turn 1 happened.
I will not stand this Austin Dillon slander smh
All good though it's a great video well worth the watch
Dude's a good driver and a two time champ in Nascar national series, but the driver of the 3 should not be a guy who's never won a Cup race on pace in almost 10 years of racing in the series. Give the 3 to Kyle Busch, come on!
As much as I would love for Kyle to be in the 3, it ain't happening. Childress said he promised Dale that the only people allowed to drive the 3 are Earnhardts or someone from Childress's family. And of the options, Austin is the best we got.
12:11 CHRII-MASSSS!!!
I have to say, this is actually pretty true. I think his Coca Cola 600 win and his Texas win were heavily based on strategy. But I’m finally going to let it loose. Dillon’s Daytona 500 and coke 400 win were micky.
Excellent content. Keep up the great work.
10:30 Proven champion? Dude won the Xfinity championship by default because of all the Cup Buschwhacking!
I remember the little weasel. He said nascar was too fast, so they had to slow the cars down for him.
It’s a good day when eilly uploads
And he just did a laughable claim of being deliberately wrecked by Austin Cindric at Gateway 💀💀
2:03
Thank you so much for saying that.
Anyways, another banger video by you, per the usual!
Dude your video's are fantastic
Great video 😂
Something people also forget, is that he very well could've advanced in 2018. He entered the ROVAL 10 above, and was in a tight points battle until he hit the wall trying to avoid Buescher
That NR radio chatter brought back many many memories.
Would he even be a question of a Mickey Mouse driver if he wasn’t in the 3?
I love Quin getting hit with all the old spotter quotes. God, that was stupid
From the family man Toretto himself: "It don't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning's winning."
babe wake up new elly productions video just dropped
Dude THANK YOU. I’ve told everyone this and nobody listens. He ain’t a bad driver, but he’s not 3 caliber
Great and hilarious video!
That "aaaahhhhh sh*t" earned you a subscriber sir hahahaha
I am in LOVE with this video
Actually, in the first half of 2017, the only Toyota that managed to win was Truex. There were dominant performances from Hamlin and Busch, but they just couldn’t win.
He was the grandson of Richard Chridress? Well, the more you know.
It's sad when his most "legitimate" win was a admittingly clever strategy play.
Am I the only one that appreciates the Mickey Speedway 64 music is playing in the background. Best racing game ever 🎉
4 Mickey Mouse wins and a few races he finished well on pace in 10 years in the cup series will never convince me he still deserves that ride. I can’t be the only one.
Before he made his debut in the cup series he won a xfinity championship and a truck series championship. If you think he doesn’t deserve the #3 then that’s fine it’s your opinion
@@commandercody4984 so? A lot of drivers have won Xfinity and truck titles and would go on to underachieve in the Cup series. They didn’t need to unretire the 3 for him.
"You play to win the game"
Wow the cars in that last segment look soooo much better
I know this was focused on his Cup wins, but I'm surprised you didn't even mention the 2016 Xfinity Fontana finish 😭
I was at Daytona last year where he won. It was… interesting to say the least 💀
Wait Americans only been using the term "Micky mouse" since 2020 that's the main thing I've took from this
I cannot fathom how he has a reality show.
Chase Elliott
All of Dillon's career is Chastain's fault
Another banger
As an Earnhardt fan seeing the 3 back in victory lane was awesome. The 600 and they Daytona 500 were definitely cool but he could have done something a little different to get the 500 win.
Yeah I agree I had the chance to actually talk with him a very chill and kind guy
I love it when mr michael rat does the dap
welcome to the clubhouse ladies and gentlemen
come inside it's fun inside
After de Chicago Street Race I thought the video would be updated hahaha
This is gold
I like Austin Dillon and ik ppl hate him but in 2022 that was the actual mickey win bc NASCAR can’t understand how the rain was coming. I saw the rain coming before they went green and yea he slammed into Cindric.
chase elliott still has a mickey championship
they dont ask how, they ask how many
Welcome to my clubhouse- Austin Dillon 2018 Daytona 500
Every time I think the “M” term is gone it comes back every time. I hate the joke it’s unfunny and over exaggerated in my opinion. I’m not trying to give any hate because the topic about Austin Dillon is fine but I just get sick of hearing the “M” term. Plus the joke makes no sense to me. What stuff do you guys smoke to say a “lucky win” is a “M win.” Now I’m prepared to get spammed by people saying the term just because I don’t like it.
Now you’ve done it
I don't hate Austin Dillon, but he definitely feels like wasted potential. He's shown at times he can run well and be fast, but never does so consistently.
I legit thought the video was about Chase Elliott's championship...
After watching that charlotte crash in your montage, I wonder if Dillon had some sort of brain injury from it. Granted he was never dominant but since then he’s been bad even by his standards.
The really odd thing is Austin Dillon is a Truck Series champion (I don't consider a winless Xfinity championship anything but a farce especially since the 22 and 54 won nearly everything) but he's clearly got talent just not Cup talent,
I'm sitting here trying to figure out what song I'm hearing because it's so familiar
Only to realize it's the tavern fight song in divinity original sin 2 lmao
Thank you. Sir…….thank you🤝
