    This is a good video. I put 2 transducers on my boat. One for high speed, the other (side and down imaging) for trolling. The high speed (2D only) is on the starboard side, the wide side and down on the port side of the motor. I troll with an electric up on the bow so there is no turbulence from that back at the transom. It works well and I can read the screen at over 40 mph. It really saves a LOT of time when determining where to fish. Once I find them I switch to down imaging and troll with the electric. I had 2 boats before this one that "lost the picture" at about 4 to 5 mph and it drove me nuts. I wanted to make sure I did not have that problem again. Both transduces are connected to the Humminbird through a Wye cable (sold by Humminbird).

    Awesome information there. I’ve had a particular brand of a boat that supposedly has a reputation of a dirty hull so to speak and never been able to get a good reading at speed, your comment on the trailing edge welds ( first transducer mounting video that I have heard mentioned this btw) so l ground the dags off and hey presto sounder now reads perfectly at speed. One happy camper. Thank you.

The sonar and clear view I figured would be very helpful but im starting to get the feeling that I should of got the side view also. Any suggestions?? I cant take it back or exchange so I hope this one works great for me. Just marking my fishing spots is big for me and also I like to be able to read the bottom. So I hope I bought the right one.

    I have one question, I’m green as and just installed the lowrance fish reveal with the standard transducer that came with it on a tiny. I know it’s bottom shelf and don’t expect to get epic results but to what speed should I expect to get no interference? I start to get interference at about 6 knots, not sure if this is standard for the bottom range products? Thanks!

    Nice Video. I'm a big fan of Garmin and use their 44CV Combo on my Yamaha Jet Boat which required a little twist on the install of the Transducer due to the jet boat's stepped hull. I get a perfect read on it no matter what speed. Go Garmin!

    Hi Ben. This was very helpful. I followed all your guidelines but still have problems reading over 10knots. I do have a different setup though and would appreciate your thoughts.
    First I have twin engines so there is a potential the starboard engine turning anto clockwise is creating turbulence and pushing water up to the transducer mounted on the starboard side. Is there a potential if this and consideration transducer should not be installed on starboard side with twin engines - I have read that a better spot is between the engines
    Second, I have a triple stepped hull. Supposedly the step being there to get air under the boat for quick planing causes bubbles and a transom mount just won’t work on a stepped hull. Do you have any thoughts on this potential and ideas you could share.
    In short, with twin engines and stepped hull, can a transom mount work and if so where should it be positioned.
    Thanks
    Norman

    Another channel said to put the boat on the water. Measure the boat level at troll, then back at home, set the boat up to the same level. Then install the Transducer making it level. Lot of work. I like your method. Seems more practical.

    • @hankvana2149
      @hankvana2149 5 лет назад

      The boat may not float or plane level so setting the transducer relative to the bottom of the hull doesn't make sense to me. I checked my boat at slow troll and my "search speed" (about 10 mph) and set my transducer level for that as those are more important (to me) than reading "at speed". A bit more effort but I think it is worth it. Each to their own :-)

Originally the 'ducer from another unit was mounted low port side at the back of the hull it was fair read out after I xchanged to a better unit with the stryker. I was told to move the new 'ducer to the starboard and on the transom where it is currently but above 5-8 mph the monitor goes blank ( xtreme cavitation I would think ). Should I try moving it back and simply adjust the height off the hull instead of the transom ( which is set a lot higher on this tracker aluminum hull bass boat.

    Ur correct in saying that it doesn't make a difference mounting the xducer on the port side.
    My lowerance was mounted there because the old xducer was there. Had some interference and lowrance said fitting it on the starboard side will fix it.
    I told them i dont think it will as its more like electrical with small equal lines down the one right of side scan and everything else works.
    Basically they said they cant help me if i wont do as they said. So i drilled more holes into my starboard transom, mounted it and nothing changed.
    Told lowrance of the result and blames me for installation error and to take to a shipwright to fix.
    Their techs are usless.
    Sonars are not that complicated to install.

    You can get fish finder without transducers

  • @jabangun
    @jabangun 3 года назад +1

    Just to clarify, when people say read at speed, does that mean pickup bottom structure at speed or also pick up fish marks at speed? I can never see any fish at 20 knots but can see bottom structure. Would a 1kW transducer help see fish at speed?

    • @BenWeston_westofish
      @BenWeston_westofish  3 года назад

      Power of the tramsducer can help, but not nessercery if you have correct fitment. Fish won't appear as arches while underway, It'll be a small red blip.

    ok...I am in the U.S. but have a lot of Kiwi softball friends so I could understand your chatter but do have a question fir clarification. When I get to full speed and the bottom changes depth my Garmin echomap 93sv starts fladhing its last depth reading but at the same time keeps showing the correct depth on the screen' s chart. any idea what i need to do to correct the glitch?

    • @BenWeston_westofish
      @BenWeston_westofish  3 года назад +1

      Hi Bob,
      Your Echomap still picking up the bottom at speed enough to show a depth reading, but not to display the bottom. Just try tilting it down a couple of degrees.

    nice video but you're use of words leaves a lot to be desired, after 8:35 you talk about the 'nose' of the transducer, that should denote the front of the transducer, like pointing the nose of your boat, the front, into the wind, thus maybe you should say the back end of the transducer, the rear , etc as you are pointing to the rear, not the front or nose of the transducer thus making this statement ambiguous, what should we go with? what you say or what you point to? i'll go with what you point to
