  • Worst Pokemon Type, What is the Worst/Weakest Pokemon Type? A video explaining What I think is THE WORST POKEMON TYPE is something I've been wanting to do for a long time! All creatures and their moves are assigned certain Pokemon types. Each Pokemon type has several strengths and weaknesses in both attack and defense. In battle, you should use the Pokémon and moves that have a type advantage over your opponent. But out of all these Pokemon types, which one is the Weakest or Worst one? Of course if you disagree share it with us in the comment section. If you guys enjoy the video be sure to leave a like Subscribe and share this video with a friend.

STAB is nice and all, sure, but no one is going to pick an Ice type just because of STAB. Starmie, for example, has been at least somewhat meta every generation, yet got by on multiple generations using BoltBeam, carrying literally neither of its STAB types.

    Ice should resist:
    -water cuz physics
    -grass cuz winter
-bugs cuz make an ant chew on an ice block and see what happens
-normal cuz try breaking an ice block with your bare hands
    Should be super effectif against:

BreKittyKatz that only applies if you have a constant supply of water and a limited supply of ice. The opposite is true too. If you spill water into a glacier the water will freeze pretty quickly. Really, if you have an equal amount of both, the energy will reach equilibrium and make a slush. So neither really overpowers the other.

Ice is one of the worst i still think its better then Rock atleast as of Gen 7. Gen 6 Ice was weakest. But with inroduction of Alolan Ninetales and Alolan Sandslash bulstering the Ice ranks it makes them alot more viable. Im sure in future generations Ice will be buffed and have more resistances just as of right now there in a rough spot. Either way ice is heavily reliant on Hail for the 100% accuracy Blizzards. Rock though i have lost so many games due to a missed Stone Edge or Rock Slide even in sandstorms. In my personal opinion is Ice is better then Rock but not by much.

Or you could just realize all Pokemon are different and learn to overcome there weaknesses. I love having bug only teams. But a bug isn't supposed to be an all out offensive creature, it uses poison and traps to live in the real world

Yeah Vespiqueen is a good tank if you ignore the fact it loses half of it's health and dies to any rock move. The only bugs to make it in OU are Mega Heracross, Mega Pinsir,Scizor, Forretress and Volcarona, two of which get destroyed by switching into nothing. Since stealth rocks are so prominent, and Mega heracross is so slow it can get widdled down or burned easily, and Scizor and Forretress fall down to an ember.

Bug: Instead of Fairy resisting Bug, Rock should resist Bug. Bug should be super effective against and resist Fairy and Dragon.
Ice: Ice should resist Flying and Water, and be super effective against and resist Fairy. It should also be super effective against Ghost.
Rock: In addition to resisting Bug instead of Fairy resisting Bug, Rock should resist Ice and Electric.
Grass: Grass is no longer weak to or resisted by Flying.
Poison: Poison should be super effective against and resist Water.
Psychic: Psychic should be super effective against and resist Fairy.

I guess bug, rock, or ice
EDIT: I was right. That being said, your ice reasoning is lackluster. The type gets stab, and while yes, those other types do things better individually, they don't do it all at once. STAB on a type with good moves and good weaknesses can be well worth the dual type. Yes, the resistances, but you gave so many reasons that redeem the type from that. Not to mention the stats on the ice pokemon support all these uses. Being frail doesn't mean a bad thing. Greninja, classified as a glass cannon, still made it into ubers in XY. Same reasoning applies here for this type. Maybe fairy is better in some ways, but many pokemon don't have much if any support for the type.

The dual typing on ice types isn’t always a bad thing, just look at Froslass, for example. It’s immune to fighting moves due to the ghost typing, has decent strength in its Attacking prowess, and is faster than some common strong Pokèmon, such as Garchomp. Weavile is a speed demon, gets Ice Shard, Fake Out, Icicle Crash, and even Knock Off. Abomasnow is one of the best weather setters in the game(or at least, it was). Alolan Ninetales is one of the best screen setters in the game, and undisputed best Hail setter(sorry Abomasnow). Cryogonal is a great Special tank, and gets Acid Armor and Reflect to help its poor defense, and Rapid Spin to blow Rocks or Spikes away, and has an immunity to ground. Beartic and Alolan Sandslash have Slush Rush, to help poor speed they have to become something quite terrifying, with very high Attacking stats. Did I even mention that Hail is a good weather condition? Blizzard’s accuracy is now perfect, Leftovers is negated, Snow Cloak and Slush Rush are great, too. It may be the worst weather condition, but it certainly isn’t bad.

I don't even need to watch the video to know it is Ice type. Too many weaknesses, no resistances, most of them are crap stat wise, this is a no-brainer.
*Edit:* Since people don't seem to know what I mean by "crap stat wise" let me explain. Most Ice types are slow and bulky, which would be decent if they had better typing but being Ice type defeats that. Avalugg, Glaceon, Aurorus, Regice, Walrein, the list goes on of supposed "tanks" made frail by their typing. *HOWEVER* Ice types are good offensively, so as if they have decent speed or pull off sweeps like Mamoswine, Weavile, Cloyster or even Alolan Ninetales they can be quite useful. Unfortunately fast Ice types are in the minority so the type as a whole is bad.

    • @thenerdbeast7375
      @thenerdbeast7375 6 лет назад +9

Normal is still better than Ice because while Normal has no resistances it only has one weakness and an immunity. The fact that Ice has so many weaknesses and only resists itself means it is much worse defensively. Combine this with the fact that most Ice types are slow and bulky stat wise means that most ice types are kind of self defeating.

Ice should be Super Effective against Grass because of winter (Yes, I copied this from someone else)
And it should be immune to water because water will freeze in cold weather.
If it already isn't, it should be strong against Flying because what happens if your wings are frozen?
Ice should resist Bug because the bug might get frozen in ice.

a reason why Ice is a good type is that all the types it's good against a commonly used together as duel types so with pokemon such as Dragonite, Salamence, Toterra, Jumpluff, Garchomp ect. It has a FOUR TIMES attack against them. And sometimes its resistance to it's self can be helpful. Especially hail. And to cover it's weakness to rock and fire there are a LOT of Ice/Water type pokemon and fighting is the same with lots of Ice/Flying type
eg. Laprs, Walrein, Delibird, Artucuno and even bloody JYNX can cover for the fighting type weakness. And the moves are OVER POWERED. Ice Beam, Ice Fang, Avalanche, Blizzard, Hail the list goes on. Ice may not be the best but it's far from being the worst

    • @Syogren
      @Syogren 6 лет назад +6

Ice moves are amazing. Problem is that many non-ice type pokemon get those moves too, allowing them to get all the benefit beyond STAB, with none of the costs.
He's mostly referring to the ice typed pokemon themselves when explaining the issues with them. Generally speaking, the only viable ice type pokemon are those that are super fast; an Avalugg or a Beartic just won't survive long enough to attack the opponent.
It's very telling that basically the only viable bulky ice pokemon, Cloyster, is only good thanks to Shell Smash, a move that TAKES AWAY ITS BULK AND INCREASES ITS ATTACK AND SPEED. You know, missing the entire point of it being bulky in the first place.
I love ice types. They're absolutely my favorite type period. And they'll generally be pretty good in-game. It's just that they fall so easily in competitive, which is injustice at its finest.
I wish Ice would resist water and lose its weakness to fighting. Maybe that would help it out.

Stealth rock isn't exclusive to rock types at all. That's a mute point imo. You didn't mention that bug has access to megahorn, a powerful 120 base power move with great accuracy given it's level of power. Same as grass with power whip. That move is amazing, as is stab u-turns. Quiver dance alone makes Volcarona such a big threat.
Grass is an amazing type as well. It has almost exclusive access to leech seed, power whip, and the best move in the game, spore.
You didn't mention weaknesses to stealth rock enough either. Ice and bug commonly create weaknesses or quad weaknesses to stealth rock, which is almost always a death sentence in competitive pokemon unless they are truly ridiculous.

I can't believe people actually think Grass is weak, let alone in the running for worst type. Some of the best walls Pokemon has ever seen were grass types. Pokemon-wise, we have Venusaur, Mega-Venusaur, Amoonguss, Tangrowth, Politoed, Breloom, Ferrothorn, Celebi, Roserade, Shaymin, Exeggutor, etc. Looking at moves, we have incredible moves that support walling (which is what most Grass-types specialize in) such as Leech Seed, Synthesis, Giga Drain, Strength Sap, Horn Leech, Aromatherapy, Cotton Guard, Sleep Powder, Spore, Spiky Shield, and Stun Spore. In addition to this, all Grass-types are immune to Powder moves, and get access to amazing defensive abilities like Regenerator, Sap Sipper, Flower Veil, Leaf Guard, and even Effect Spore to a certain degree. From Red and Blue to Ultra Sun and Moon, Grass-type Pokemon have been incredibly prevalent in the metagame.
Grass is a great typing, and it always has been. It shouldn't even be in the same conversation as Bug, Rock, or Ice.

For a long time Poison was the weakest type. Thanks to Fairy-type and decent attacks it finally changed, but they forgot to buff Ice. Ice was strong in Gen 1 because it was the only Dragon-counter and there was no steel yet. But from Gen 2 on it became quite a tragedy.

I'm not crazy for liking the Ice type. As you said so yourself, the Ice type has some great moves and are very good against some of the strongest types. Every type has some weaknesses, though. And I can think of many Ice types that aren't legendary. Glaceon, Froslass, Galarian Darumaka, Snovel, Vanillish, Arctozolt. I think that Normal is the worst type, since it has literally no advantages, and none of the normal offensive moves are good. They're weak against Rock, Ice, and Steel, and immune to Ghost, whilst Fighting in strong against it. You could completely erase the Normal type, and it wouldn't affect anyone. We all know that the only reason Normal types really exist is just for the heck of it, excluding Eevee, since it is actually a very useful pokemon with many useful evolutions. Other than Eevee, all normal type pokemon could disappear and I'd be okay with it.

    How to fix ice types:
    1. Add an ability to make them immune to fire type attacks (over-freeze would be a cool name)
    2. Give it more resistances: resist water, electric, bug and dragon (yes water resists ice but that doesn’t make sense)
    2. Make it strong against steel and water
I just want gamefreak to boost my fav type 🙃

Ice is definitely a tricky type. For sure on the lower end of the scale, but if you play it right, some of them can really do a lot. I know you didn’t mention them, but Cloyster is a great ice type with amazing potential if it gets set up, and Froslass has a very diverse move pool plus destiny bond in a pinch. I’ve found that both of them have been crazy good in competitive battling

Dark Pulse and Dazzling Gleam are both TMs, as Ice beam and Aurora beam (also Dazzling Gleam) are Level ups. Alolan Ninetails is Immune to Dragon types, Resistant to Ice (1/2x), Bug (1/2x), and Dark (1/2x) types. Alolan ninetails is Weak to Fire (2x), Poison (2x), Rock (2x), and Steel (4x) types, Its normal to everything else. It evolves by an Ice stone, and its Sp.DEF and SPD are very high. I honestly can't say I like a few of your arguments:
    1) Rock type. Rock is an excellent offensive type. Yes, it has accuracy issues but Stone Edge has classically been one of the most important and powerful moves in the game (and part of the famous Earthquake+Stone Edge duo). Rock Slide likewise is one of the most feared moves for stealing games on its own (especially in doubles). And then there are the specialized but still key moves like Head Smash and Rock Blast. Very, very few other types have any chance of being nearly as game defining on the offensive side of the spectrum as Rock. Defensively Rock does have a number of weaknesses true, but two of them aren't as bad as they appear (Grass and Steel are both relatively rare move types and many dual typings remove these weaknesses) and Rock's high defenses make the others less crippling than most types deal with. Finally rock has some unique advantages. Rock is one of the main abusers of its own Weather type in Sandstorm. It gains a unique SDef boost in Sand and ignores damage from the same. It also has some of the best utility moves in Stealth Rock and Wide Guard. While by no means the preferred defensive type of pokemon, you can easily find worse types than Rock.
    2) Ice type. Yes, Ice is terrible defensively. That said, part of the reason is because competitive pokemon bans or alters some of its defensive options. Evasion hax is hated on as "unfun" but it's still a big part of Ice's identity so the removal of it hurts Ice as a whole. Offensively however, Ice has been a corner stone of pokemon power since the game began. Whether you're talking Ice Beam (of Thunderbolt+Ice Beam fame), Ice Punch, or Blizzard (mostly in doubles but not unheard of in singles, especially in earlier gens), these were (and to an extent still are) some of the best moves in the entire game. Add in one of the few (and arguably the best) priority moves and one of the classic OHKO moves (again usually banned) and few types have the offensive pedigree of Ice. Moving on to untility, Ice has a few moves that are unique and have been at points key in the meta. Whether we're talking new moves like Aurora Veil or classics like Icy Wind and Haze or its own weather type in Hail, Ice stands among the most versatile types around. Given all that, I can't put it in the bottom tier. If Ice left the game, it would be missed, not every typing can say that.

I think to buff ice we'll have to:
    Make it super effective against:
Water. Put water in the fridge and see what happens.
    Psychic. Brain freeze.
    Grass. This one is obvious.
Bug. Bugs don't like cold weather.
    Ground. Snow covers ground.
Flying. Birds can't fly when their wings are frozen.
    Dragon. Dragons are cold blooded.
    Okay...That's pretty overpowered.
Now let's balance it out with:
Fire. It melts ice. (Though I'd love to see an ice pokémon have a "melted" form, turning into this form will change it to water type.)
    Fighting. Fists can break ice.
    Steel. Ice breakers exist.
    Rock. It's just strong...?
Alright, I'm out of ideas and the ice type is still overpowered, maybe you have some ideas?

There is no logical reasoning behind either of those statements... How do you explain fairies being weak to ice? And how about grass? Grass in particular is difficult to justify because the only places in the world that are cold and have little to no plantlife are the north and south poles - the absolute extremes. And fairies... honestly, fairies should be susceptible to the wind if we're going by standard representation of them. But I don't necessarily see fairies being susceptible to ice specifically because they're generally very adaptable to the elements around them. What I would like to see them do at some point is give us a fairy dragon - not just a fairy/dragon type, but a mon based off of the fairy dragon. They're so underused in fantasy.

Ice type moves are hella useful, especially during The Elite Four portion of the game. Ice Pokémon, on the other hand, could at least use a Flying or Bug resistance as defensive buffs because the other defense buffs it has had over the years like Immunity to Sheer Cold and Immunity to Hail don’t have enough situations where they would provide use.

Before fairy, ice type had its niche as the counter to dragon. True, it’s the offense that really matters, but don’t underestimate STAB. Water/ice is not a bad type. That is *not* why Lapras and Walrein don't see usage. They don't see usage because they lack recovery as tanks or walls and can't do much on offense.
As for whether it "should" resist grass, I disagree that it makes sense. Ice is an offensive type. It's not something in real life that's durable, but it can do damage. It has the best offensive coverage in the game, hence why it only resists itself.

Didn't Ice type used to have resistance to Water type? Ice type used to be a total boss against Dragon type before Fairy type came along.
In my opinion, Poison is the worst typing out there. It's only strong against Grass type, Steel type is immune to it, and it's weak against Ground and Psychic. Granted, it got edge over Fairy when it was introduced, but doesn't make up for it. Plus, the fact that it isn't super effective over other natural typings like Water, Ground, Bug, etc, makes the idea of toxic pollution look like a joke. It should be the real Evil type in Pokémon, not Dark type. "Oh! But Dark types use moves like Bite and Snatch and that makes them evil!" I hear you butt in. Yeah, but that's no where near as bad as Poison slowly killing you on the inside and polluting your needs for survival. In fact, shouldn't one-hit kill moves like Guillotine be considered Evil? It does sound pretty fucking Dark dontcha think!?

  • @jpcsdutra

There's a point to be made before gen 6 tho. Ice Types make only 6% of the Dex, and before Fairy Types, they were pivotal agaisnt the Dragon Types which were Game Freaks easy switch into "you're in hard game mode now", since all elite 4s had them. There was a certain value as to rarity and the usefulness of its one strenght, and it was usually coupled with the water type, negating two weaknesses. Bug Types on the other hand, were always the "easy mode" that counter balanced the Dragon Types "hard mode", being not much other than xp fodder for low level Pokémon. In Gen 2 there's barely anyone who uses Heracross or Scizor in the game, and it wasn't until Gen 4 that they started getting a better treatment. However, Rock-Types, to me, feel the worst type. They are always early gyms, they are always not versatile as in most Rock Types play the same, and they aren't even that iconic, a lot of people still mistake rock for ground because it lacks anything to make it stand as a type. Everything it does another type does it better, since gen 1.

Even if you go with pokemons that counter them, they can give you a pretty hard time beating them!! p.s. offtopic - the coolest evolution-Steelix !!!!

GOD DAMN IT, I *KNEW* ice was going to be on the list... I know it's a bad type, but I love them none the less. Oh well, it's the *cold* truth.

thing about ice is, pokemon can learn ice type moves, you dont really need stab, you can have great offense without needing to tack on an ice type to gain all those weaknesses

i think this video should have been split into two versions: Gen 1 and Post Gen 1 since Gen 1 was in a class on it's own.
    Gen 1:
Worse: Ghost = You only had Gengar and Nightshade and that was it since Lick was the only Ghost move left and it was trash while Confuse Ray was just a utility move that you couldn't depend on for offense.
2nd Worse: Bug = all bugs were super weak with low defensive stats, shit base stats across the board, only 3 offensive bug moves (with Leech Life being the strongest), weak to the all too commons Fire, Flying and Rock types, and no offense against the types it's suppose to counter in Ground and Grass types.
this is why Psychics like Alakazam and Mewtwo ruled Gen 1 because they blew up Gengar and laughed at shit like a Pin Missile from Beedrill or Leech Life from Parasect (since all the other Bugs were either poison, weak or couldn't learn Pin Missile or Leech Life). Parasect was about the closest Psychic counter in terms of type and move counter but even then there was better options that weren't bugs like Chansey, Snorlax, and Slowbro.
3rd worse: Dragons = There was only one dragon move and pokemon and it was Dragonite and Dragon Rage. a move that dealt a flat 40 HP per turn which is nothing to level 100 pokemon who have 300+ HP.

The super Shiny Lucario not a bad list. But I would put fairy over Ground because there is really only 1 good ground type move which is earthquake.

Ice is an excellent offensive type, though. The problem is GameFreak making most Ice-type Pokémon defensive, slow, or both. Weavile is amazing because it can actually use its typing effectively, so is Mamoswine, that despite being more on the slow side, it has a good dual-typing and Thick Fat; but what is the point of Pokémon like Avalugg, Beartic, A-Sandslash, Crabominable, Aurorus, Abomasnow, Walrein, etc. if they can't take a hit before attacking? Ice-types aren't supposed to be slow... it's bad design. Rock suffers the same fate.
    .
Worst type in my opinion is Bug. Its only redeeming quality is Sticky Web and U-Turn, both which have awful distribution (U-Turn is learnt by more non-bug types than bugs, for fuck's sake). At least Leech Life was buffed in Gen7
