I have just seen this film today at my local cinema and it was excellent. This is not just a film about being stalked it is also about how isolating it is to move to another country where you don't speak the language. All the actors in this film are superb.
My take away from this film is women or people in general should trust their gut instinct because it is there for a good reason. Maybe we should stop calling them paranoid to avoid murder and/or rape like Irina said in the movie?
Really good movie. Well acted as well. Would strongly recommend to anybody who likes mystery or thriller movies. The way they built suspense in this movie was excellent. Well worth a watch.
I'm getting tired of the thriller scare you, disturb you genre of film making but this was a very well made film that never went way over the top. It kept my attention throughout the movie. I'd seen so many films dealing with serial killers over the years starting with The Hitcher 1986 and Cop 1987. This would almost be considered a contemporary classic to those, it was that well made.
Just got done watching and all I can say is the movie is so brilliant that I could also feel the fear, anxiety, frustration and desperation of the character. It is slow paced for me yet not boring since every scene captures the events that made the main character feel distressed. The train scene gave me goosebumps. The ending is satisfying yet too short for me. Overall, the movie is really worth watching.
What did she see in the plastic bag he had on the train? It heightened her fear of him. I keep trying to make it out but I just can't see what he had in the bag.
The movie was incredible. It was very nicely made and the story was very well written. It builds up tension gradually and is very interesting to watch. The lighting was also impressive, it had very beautiful scenes.
The train scene was terrifying. The Evil of the lunatic. He had no shame, no fear. The actress gave it her all in her performance. Very sinister movie.
The female lead also acts and stars in another amazing horror movie called "It Follows" She seems very under the radar with these non Hollywood movies, but she is spectacular!
Making the "Watcher" a serial killer DESTROYED the excellent subway scene. The movie is about loneliness, and how society sympathizes with women who are directly responsible for their loneliness, but make "creeps" out of men who have loneliness thrust upon them. Rewatch it with this in mind, and understand that the first hour and 20 minutes was brilliant, but then they ruined it with the ending.
@@vikingkirk762 I went back and watched it, keeping in mind what you said. You were right. The most intense parts are within the middle of the movie itself. It was the fear itself that propelled the movie. That was the main concept.
@@alexhoneybee9677 There's more to it than that. The "Watcher's" explanation was perfectly reasonable. Most Millennials have already buried a parent already, and the media does not address that. My father was murdered before I turned 28, and Obama"Care" has wiped out the parents of most of my graduating class. The responsibility to be with my mother the past 5 years is exactly as the "Watcher" describes; the world completely passes by you. You are not free, yet you are all alone. The movie should have ended at this excellent explanation, but it decided to be generic and feminist, and thus, ruined everything it had going for it.
just done watching. what is sad about this is the fact that it happens in real life. a sad reality for women. a jerk boyfriend and a creepy murderer/stalker. women get murdered for saying no. it happens everyday anywhere around the world and it's sad. it's a very well-written movie. no cringe scenes. i love it
Excellent film, if you appreciate a smart, character-driven thriller. Has tones of Hitchcock, and David Fincher, definitely some DePalma and maybe even Fulci.
I found 2 nods to DePalma, though they're brief and subtle. Both from "Dressed To Kill": the grocery store scene (a la the brilliant museum scene), and the subway cat-and-mouse scene.
Loved it! If there was a season 2, I'd watch it for sure. Misses made me watch it, and I was so happy I did. It left me with a few questions un-answered to think about.
Super film, really !!! Worth watching ! I couldn't stay seated at ease from time to time. Gloomy atmosphere and the actors and actresses are brilliant.
Exactly 💯 and we can learn a thing or two from this movie: Trusting our gut instinct no matter how much others make us question ourselves and stop calling people paranoid because like Irina said in the movie paranoa isn't a bad thing, it might keep rapes and murders away.
This film does not come across as a film from today. Rather like a classic, quiet and very slowly increasing. The film plays with the fears of a woman and the arrogance of her life partner who can not really understand her fears. For women a very good thriller but also for men who want to see something different than the standard Hollywood or Netflix stuff from today.
Just watched this movie today... amazing. The plot, the acting, the APARTMENT (im obsessed). I honestly thought he was going to get away with everything, and I'm glad he didn't.
Saw the reviews and decided to watch the movie. I give it a 9 on a scale of 1-10. It pulled me in almost from the beginning and all the way to the end. No slow, dragging moments and no confusing plots or plot twists. Good movie!
The ending saved this one. And I think a lot of people are basing their experience not on the paint-by-numbers boredom of the first 85 minutes, but the solid closing half dozen. To that point, there was absolutely nothing remarkable about this film. But it WAS done well. I thought the acting, etc., was fine and they were certainly looking for a mood. I don't think they quite got there, but I have the idea a lot depends on whether you've already seen a dozen versions of this exact story before. I'm not sure the writing was that great. There weren't really any characters I found myself pulling for, which is kind of important given that we're supposed to be sympathetic to the woman who believes she's being watched. But it was easier to empathize with the people surrounding her, to whom she must have seemed like a real pain the ass. I would definitely recommend it because it was done fairly well, and everyone's experience will be different than mine, considering I've watched a LOT of horror movies. But unless you invest yourself beyond what the movie really deserves, I'm not sure you'll remember it 5 minutes after the credits roll.
I loved it. I usually rewatch movies that I fall for. Particularly thrillers that pull me in. In this case I will disagree with you. The movie has remained in my phsyce. I am mostly attached to the main protagonist who I feel is abandoned by her husband who leaves her vulnerable to the situation that occurs. In my eyes it's about the relationship between them two. I'm pulled in to it by that. In the end the husband slips up and betrays her with the comment about her keeping the spider company. It seals the deal for me.
@@christianquinones8081 I've just seen too many of these in which the protagonist quickly becomes paranoid beyond common sense, the switch flips and they then become impossible to want to be around. I just feel bad for the people around them, to be honest. But it does play into the idea that you have to have a protagonist you pull for. In your case you do, and in mine I don't, so that likely explains our difference in how vested we were. Take care.
Had to scroll down too much to find this comment. Sure, it was well done but it brought nothing new to the table. It literally went from point A to point B in a straight line and that was it.

It's not like every director can re-invent the wheel every time out.
