- Recently purchased a 2021 KTM 450 EXC-F. This is a comparison of the FMF slip on exhaust pipe, vs the KTM factory exhaust pipe.
After the install, the bike has much more power in the low to mid rev range, is much more responsive, and sounds a lot better!
Private roads featured.

I cut the spark arrestor out of mine on good advice from a factory KTM mechanic, saved about$1500. Works a charm 👍good video though.

really nice video!! I noticed you have the map switch which does not come standard on EXC base model. Did you buy it separately ? if so which map you think the bike had when you did not have it on the bike, map 1 or map 2?
Thanks Oli. Well spotted - I had the map switch added when I purchased the bike from the dealer. I hadn’t ridden the bike without the switch, so I don’t know what map is standard but my guess would be map 2

i found out i did not use it much on my previous bike (6days) always was on map 2 with no TC. Do you feel the same?

Is this model going to be similar maintenance and reliability wise to the 500 EXC? What made you choose this over the WR450? Cheers.
Hey mate, identical to the 500 EXC. You cannot tell they are different bikes when they're next to each other. I don't know too much about the WRs, but have heard good things about the new ones 👌
Which FMF slip on is that? 4.1? Powercore? Q4?

Gday Justin - This is just the standard KTM gaurd with the ADR piece unscrewed, and then modified a little to get the indicators and plate on.
Would you rather spend like 700 on full system fmf 4.1,or spend half that for a akrapovic header pipe to a ktm racing muffler??

Does it need to be tuned for that exhaust mod?
Hey Makee - on map setting 2 (the most aggressive) the bike runs great and no flat spots. On map setting 1, now with the slip on, there are some flat spots in lower revs. A quick ECU tune up would fix this up pretty easy. I always ride in map setting 2 so I haven’t worried about a tune at this point 👍🏻

Did it add more power? did you re-map?
Hey mate - yeah it did add more low to mid range power for sure. On map 2 it runs great and didn't need changing, however on map 1 it splutters a bit in the lower revs. If I wanted to use map 1 more often, getting it re-mapped to suit the new pipe would be much better.
