Finally, a video covering my exact issue. Could not figure out what that metal sleeve was because it didnt have the typical crank repair sleeve look or even face "the right direction". Tossed the metal ring in the trash, and here I am 2500 miles later leaking oil like crazy from the rear main. Live and learn I suppose.
    Thanks for the video!

Nice first video. Get yourself a tripod to steady out the shots. Talk louder or get a microphone to make it easier to hear you. Good information though. That is what I like in these kind of videos.

Thanks twinrc! You are the man with the right information. Just finished timing job on 4.0 sohc and replaced rear main and stabbed the motor back in. Just happened to see your video and my heart sank. I drove the speedy sleeve flush with the seal too! Pulling motor back out and doing it right making sure it has clearance. You’re a life saver man!!! Thanks

Nice video, plain and simple to understand. Video stabilizer would help in the future.

Seems to me that the sleeve would guarantee an oil leak? I'm wondering if that sleeve is supposed to allow the seal to slip over the crankshaft without damage, and nothing more? Unless that sleeve is a press fit on the crank shaft how could it not leak oil?

    • @mikemaj8467

It is indeed a press fit.

John Frahm, does have alot of good input, tripod and speaking louder. But in the description please list the part numbers of the special tools like that seal driver!

🤔 Any updates? Did it stay dry?
I have a 2006 Ford Explorer 4.0 that's leaking pretty bad and going to pull the trans and replace the seal. Hopefully the crank is not bad,. if it is I'm going to install a sleeve and a then a nice felpro rear main seal.. BTW.. any part numbers available? Subbed 👍
    thanks

Did you add any rtv to the seal before install?

Is this the 5.0? Do I need a lift to replace the rear main seal?

Great video. Good info! Did it stop leaking? I’m kind of thinking like the other guys about it leaking at the sleeve if it’s not pressed on?

Do you keep the metal sleeve installed on the new rear main? I just swapped a 4.0 engine on a 06 mustang and replaced the rear main, but pulled the sleeve off before installation.. just started leaking 50 miles in & going to have to remove the trans again to redo. Normally I didnt think anything of the sleeve

Ford Australia won't sell the tool.
There's a Ford part number for the tool, Ford parts Australia doesn't sell.
    Ford Australia never had a 4.0 V6.
According to Spare Parts. Ford never made or sold a 4.0 V6.
Ford deleted all the original seals from the system and introduced this replacement garbage and won't supply the tool.
Does anyone have a part number for the original seal that doesn't use the wear ring?

A year late on the comment, but the tool is OTC 7834 if you ever run into this again.
