Watching your declutters threw me into my own declutter of my cosmetics. And then, interestingly enough, doing some casual “window shopping” online and I realized have clear eyes on what I have and I can pass on everything. I am going back to clear out more. I definitely have gained clarity, now onto my wardrobe.
Rare beauty is a brand that has very good products at a reasonable price or that’s what I hear. I too haven’t bit the bullet and bought anything, it all looks good and is on my list but………. I’d love to see an in-depth all face review‼️
I also feel like it’s been very easy for me to pass on everything this year except the occasional replacement. Idk, it’s almost like I’ve finally hit a point where I’m immune to the revolving door of novelty. More often than not, the makeup I use over and over are tried and true faves and I just have a better grasp on my own habits. I’m able to appreciate really cool new releases but also know that I would hardly ever use them and they become easy passes where they wouldn’t have been before. It’s really freeing tbh!
I feel like the Pat McGrath team said, “ what palette do we have the most extras of lying around. Midnight Sun, ok let’s put a new cover on it and market the hell out of it”
Plus Midnight Sun was just selling for $77 on her web site, so did they want to clear out all the inventory in preparation for this special packaging version?
I agree, everyone seems to have had a positive experience with their products. It actually makes me less curious to see a review because it'll just be another good version of a base product, blush, highlighter etc. and there doesn't seem to be many unique shades or concepts in the range.
Something I'd love to see you review from Rare Beauty are the complexion products. I hear 170W is an incredible fair, olive shade in both the concealer and foundation.
Totally agree except with your Byredo take -- those little oyster shell/rock quints continue to whisper in my ear because they are so beautiful and I would love if your channel reviewed their bronzier ones 😊
I feel like Rare Beauty has two things going for it that might be your jam: I feel like their shade range leans more into "get the one for you" than buy the whole range (at least in my mind!) The packaging is also just very pleasing. Not sure how I feel about the formula compared to the heavy hitters, but the latest sparkly eyeshadow palette in the metal reflective case brings me much joy!
You might be spot on about the whole marketing delay, getting a head of trends/seasons thing. I think the way companies do financials have a huge impact on when and what gets marketed. I don't work in finance at all, or even in retail or beauty, but I do vaguely know of some finance weirdness in an entirely different industry. If a company is ordering supply of raw materials, or even the manufacturing of a good (if it's outsourced), the bill isn't usually paid immediately. Payment can be fulfilled anywhere between 30-90 days after delivery of goods, depending on the contract. Accounting can shift around this debt to make certain financial quarters than others, even if it's an artificial increase/decrease. I can't speak to the details, but I wouldn't be surprised if this had a huge implication on how and when products are pushed.
I would love a rare beauty review, mostly because i love the way you describe makeup texture❣️ i don't think the brand is doing anything groundbreaking in terms of colour or overall look (every review I've seen leads to the reviewer looking vaguely like Selena Gomez which is not a criticism per se, but...this line seems to produce _one_ look really well) Just touch the packaging and describe how the product FEELS and then see if applying makes you, also, look vaguely like Selena
Sonia G is a japanese makeup brush collector and used to do great reviews. She has travelled to Japan lots of times to help create her dream brushes. I only own the concealer ones because everything I own is too itchy for me and I love them.
I think after lots of not buying makeup and playing with my existing collection, I'm really confident about not needing any of the new things and have very strong don't-buy-it muscles in 2022. Very excited to take that mindset into 2023!
i find rare beauty to be very friendly and qpproachable as a brand. its not terribly innovative in colors or textures but it feels reliable. would be interested in a review!
I’m one of those people who doesn’t really buy make up throughout the year and November/December is the fun time of year for me to restock and try new things. Also the time of year I tend to actually wear make up the most. So from that perspective, makeup releases and reviews from thoughtful creators like you are very valuable to me. That way I’m not as overwhelmed by the choices. Although I appreciate the restraint and anti consumerism, I really enjoy your opinions and thoughtful reviews on make up in addition to the declutters.
I'm very much the same! I've spent 90% of my budget in December as I get ready for the holidays. The 10% left was spread out in tiny replacements over the year. I tend to wait for promos and this year I finally gave up all of my super old products I had been holding onto like a bonkers squirrel.
I have a theory that makeup companies were scared of recession-conscious consumers, and so you’re not seeing any really big swings. Most of what I’m seeing seems very small and very safe, or already trying to fast-forward out of winter into spring.
lol, when I saw that colourpop release on instagram I was like "Hannahs gonna say it's pretty objectively but she doesn't wear those colours." I HAVE DIVINED NEW MAKEUP HOT TAKES, MUAHAHAHA
I feel the same about charlotte tilbury, she's found the formula that sells and is sticking too it, for people who love the pillow talk colour family its awesome. For me it's very bleh. I fear PMG will go the same route. The artistry, intrigue and vision dies once sales become the main goal and at the end of the day these are big companies with boards and stakeholders.
I'm concerned about that for Natasha Denona as well. Her last 2 palette releases (Retro Glam and My Dream) do feel inspired to me, but there was a fairly long period of time before them where everything was sort of blending into one another, with very rapid and forgettable releases. My main red flag was when the Retro palette was released and had names like, "psychadelic", "rebellion", and "Jude", obviously in reference to a very specific culture of the 60s, and the entire color story was just muted mauves. It felt like such a disjointed execution with a great idea for a palette that was just smashed together with a selection of shades that had already been put together for something else.
You nailed it. Brands all hit us with their holiday goods earlier, in August, and now they don't know what to do with themselves when it's actually holiday time. Maybe next year they will figure out their timing and someone will drop something delicious for us to feast on! (Back to looking at tinsel..The only shine and glint left for us lol!) Happy Holidays to all, and thank you for blessing us with great content!)!
Discernment is great! It filters out the really good stuff- clothes, makeup etc. Love listening to you discern your way through. Nothing grabs me either.
I feel the exact same way about holiday releases! I want like glittery, fuzzy, cozy vibes coming at me from all directions, but I feel like we're just getting "holiday" releases that could have been put out any time of year. I would love to see a brand do a Hanukkah release with silvers, golds, and blues at some point, but I feel like so much creativity has just gone out the window with most brands. The notable exception to this are the Oden's Eye Christmas Eve and Merry Christmas palettes, which are absolutely stunning and beautifully conceived in every way.
I have loved the Rare Beauty products I've tried. Her brushes are great, I hate using my fingers and her brushes are like using a finger without using a finger LOL! Anyways, I'd love to see a thorough review of her brand. Nothing exciting in the makeup world for a couple weeks now and I'm loving it LOL!
It makes sense for the makeup tied to fashion houses to release spring collections but Too Faced releasing this is weird. I feel like the Dior packaging is kinda Peggy Bundy, but I find it strangely attractive. This was a fun time 🎉
I think you can make a twist of the possible future Rare Beauty video and pick of course the newest releases and also trying their highest rated makeup of their line.
Would love to see a finally trying rare beauty video!! My personal favourites are the foundation and the liquid lip balm in nearly neutral, it’s my go-to everyday lip product
Oh Hannah! I so agree about the weird pastel and neon trickle from December 3-25🤣 it seems only Mariah knows the coin value of truly leaning hard at the goooooey center of the holidays
I too am feeling rusty and crusty. Cold weather, heating in my apartment, and stress are to blame. I fixed it with glitter last night too! I think it uplifts my spirits even more than my lewk ✨ I also wore a black turtleneck. Another essential hack, as you know!
The Black Turtleneck! A HLP hack indeed. I am anti-turtlenecks on myself but she's quite right that they make most people look very pulled together. Especially with a suitable-length necklace
The midnight sun palette was the only Pat McGrath to ever catch my eye and it was on sale for $70 on her website during Black Friday because she was doing that special release. I’m not a huge eyeshadow buyer but I’m really glad I caught it for that price.
Yes! Don't you now feel low-key genius that you got it last month? I think @AngelicaNyqvist said it best: get the palette on sale if you want it, and add a cool sticker from Etsy to the packaging.
I'd love to see a rare beauty review! I don't have any products from them bc I haven't run out of any base products (and I'm not trying to get duplicates) but I've always had good interests from the brand; I like that the branding is more minimalist/simple type of make up
I’m definitely bored to tears by mainstream beauty releases these days, but very excited by indie eyeshadow launches! Terra Moons is about to release a STUNNING winter eyeshadow line, I would love to hear your thoughts on what smaller brands are doing on occasion! I know it requires more effort than using trendmood though, and can sometimes produce very polarizing comments. I feel like indie brand owners are always coming under fire and getting “cancelled” for something, sadly.
Watching this video was kinda fun and ironic cause the products Hannah discarded because of their color story are exactly up my alley (Dior spring and colourpop). Oh Hannah, there's a whole world of pale rosy people who struggle with all the products being too orange/brown and would be flattered by that Dior color story))
I never abide by strict rules, but learning about seasonal color analysis, figuring out my season (autumn), and determining which colors aesthetically look the best on me, has really helped me narrow down the clothing and makeup I buy. Of course if I want to wear colors outside my season, I will. But having a wardrobe full of colors outside my color palette wouldn't make much sense if I want to keep it relatively paired down and cohesive, look my best, limit my spending, and not suffer from decision fatigue.
I would love to see a careful and considerate review of Rare Beauty from you. I only own a liquid highlighter but it’s my favorite of that type in my collection.
Sonia G brushes are amazing. They are a whole level above rephyr in my opinion in terms of materials used (the quality of the bristles and handles, etc.) and the luxury look and feel makes them special. I'd love to see you do a self-sponsored review of some of their brushes....For me Louisa Eldridge and PML really killed it in November and now we are into New Years Eve/festival style makeup. I would think that Jaclyn Hill could release some highlighters or something to capitalize. Charlotte Tilbury usually realeases one of those eyes to mesmerize long palettes and Stila has their glitter minis. Tarte has their ridiculous novelty brushes, two faced has some scented nonsense in a tin and the drug store will have mega kits from L.A. Girl and Wet and Wild. MAC usually releases a crappy brush set and some lipsticks in vaguely new packaging. It just seems weirdly quiet this year, and that is not a bad thing, really.
i was just looking to see if you had any rare beauty reviews, i would love to see a full brand review at some point! i can’t tell if the products are actually good or are just popular right now
The Dior palettes look like they could be props from Mean Girls. Can't decide if they're better suited for the plastics or Amy Pohler's character. She is a cool mom after all.
I'd be very interested in a brand overview of Rare Beauty from you!! I've never tried anything from them, but their complexion products are inclusive of fair-light olive undertones, which is me, so I'm intrigued...
That PML Star Wars collection was perfect for me because I wanted Midnight Sun for a long time now and I love Star Wars more than anything, it's basically my religion lol. So yes, I bought it in a heartbeat, in a bundle with the C3PO version of her mascara. The artwork is SO beautiful. But I agree, if you didn't want Midnight Sun before, or even worse, if you already own Midnight Sun, there's no point in buying this.
As always, thoroughly enjoyable viewing. I'd be interested in your thoughts on the new LH Cosmetics quad. Weirdly released so close to the end of the year, but I like the look of it.
You have nailed it...this year is just boring...for mainstream makeup...maybe it is time for you to turn your attention to indie makeup, specifically the wonderfully textured shadows that you are always craving...there are so many interesting and beautiful palettes from Nomad Cosmetics and others! (I am sure that you know of all of the indie brands that I am referring to...there are a handful of really great ones that would be so inspiring to see on your channel!)
I was quite literally thinking to myself how I loved that you still do the sign-off kiss, and how it's a sweet little gesture...and then you said you might stop doing it 😅 do whatever feels right, of course, but I vote that it stays. 😘
Just wanted to let you know your sign off gives me so much comfort and hope. Catching up on my watch and reads while I take a mental health day today and I started with the right one. 😘
I live for your overhead videos, I’ve been in my glory! Love seeing your face too though 😊 I bought a handful of Sydney Grace singles and the mini ND Star palette since I’m actually growing my makeup collection (came to it late). Now I want VB Lid Lustres in Mink and Tea Rose. Maybe next year…
I love your hair! Also, I love watching these videos :) I am making huge strides to stop over buying, creating a curated collection of things that I actually want to use, and loving the life of less stuff. This gives me the makeup experience without the strain on my wallet or mental energy.
I don’t own any Charlotte Tilbury products. I just looked at that collection you showed, and I already have every eyeshadow color in other palettes I own. There would be absolutely no reason for me to buy her products. I took a screenshot of that small palette, and I’m going to dupe the vibes of it tomorrow 😊
I totally agree about the asymmetrical palette. Even if I love a color scheme I just cannot. It’s the main reason I didn’t buy the glossier multichromes.
I adore the rare beauty mascara and it completely took me by surprise. I think you would adore it too as someone who loves ilia limitless. It’s just so easy to use, endlessly buildable, but so lengthening and separating. ❤❤❤.
I agree..I think the beauty industry doesn't know what do as it's literally Spring 2023 and a bore at that. The major gifting holidays ended on Cyber Monday. I love the off the cuff style. It's perfect for hot takes. Yes to the Rare Beauty review. I have only tried a lip product from Rare and would love to hear your full brand review.
Love these relaxed videos, and the best shade of all is stating that most images weren't even worth mentioning. Which has been most makeup releases for me currently. Anything that sparks interest is something that has been on the market for a while and isn't going to be discontinued in three months
I noticed I keep looking at these tie-dye kinda tops. They'd be out of my comfort zone as I wear all-black for 5+ years but I keep thinking about them ... and now you're wearing one and I absolutely NEED it!!!
Sometimes around the holidays I feel like they know people will buy anything just to buy something, so maybe they are dumping all that they have- good, bad, or ugly? I'm with you on there being not much inspiring there, but maybe it is poorly marketed. I did like the colour pop cool colours eyeshadow palette on the swatched arm, and the tilbury lips on dark skin were intimate, but the light skinned colours were doing nothing. Love your updates on your process around minimizing. Thanks Hannah!
Definitely agree on the pink for Spring trend being boring. And absolutely going to try the Givenchy Prime Libre peach color color corrector, green red neutralizer, and the concealer. Did pick up a few of the PAT MCGRATH Star Wars stuff, but not for the packaging, just for the new items (the six pan palettes and the individual eye toppers). And Sonia G. makes my favorite brushes. I didn't go for the Mount Fuji one, but I did order the three brush set. Love her eye brushes in particular. Did I need them? No. I really am in awe of your eyeshadow palette and single shadow declutters. Wow. Talk about simplifying your life. I've got hundreds and it is almost too many choices!
Good Saturday morning Hannah! For anyone reading the comments looking for indiebrand info: Menagerie cosmetics has discontinued their single shadows with the exception of their "special" shades (multichromes). They will be offering grab bags to get rid of the remaining singles. I'm so sad about this! 🥺
I'm going to guess that there's a market (smaller than palettes) for singles, but Menagerie really isn't in that market, so they have to make a business decision.
I feel that "Blaaah glitter fixes everything!" is the kind of frenzy we need for Christmas this year! AND I'm beyond excited to hear what you have to say about the PMG x Star Wars release [smirks]
Love you Hannah and all your thoughts!!! I bought one of the Christmas Dior quints in October and it's lovely. This month I bought a Chanel lippie in the shade "Boy" and a liquid eyeshadow from Lisa Eldridge. That's it! Nothing else grabbed my attention...and I just did a Hannah style declutter of my makeup collection!😆😀❤😉
Not a new release but I reeeaally hope my bf gets me the ABH noveau palette bc I cant stop thinking about it. I also really want a cold dusty rose pink liquid blush. I think (hope) that ppl have gotten more aware about how brands want you to buy random shit for chrismast and going for things they actually like than random cheaper stuff in pretty packaging
Midnight Sun is funny to me. I just want your favourite shade. I wish I could just get that, but I might one day settle for the DM liquid it dethroned. Apparently it was on sale prior to the announcement too.
Loving that you’re wearing Victoria Beckham packaging, basically. Lol
Please do What’s cheering me up right now videos. The holidays can be a hard time and I feel like we could use some cheering 🎉
Hannah, glitter DOES fix everything!! We are all a little rusty crusty at this time of year so thank you for spreading some joy to us all xx
Fr the glitter & accessories fixed all, cannot even notice anything else immediately my eyes are drawn to the shiny.
Love your top and love that you are a little crusty.. I'm all about permission not to be perfect
Watching your declutters threw me into my own declutter of my cosmetics. “And let’s put the little wrap things right over Darth Vader’s chesticles” 😂
Exactly!!! I feel the star wars Collab is just them trying to clear out stock by repackaging
Rare beauty is a well received and loved brand in the makeup market.
I agree, everyone seems to have had a positive experience with their products. It actually makes me less curious to see a review because it'll just be another good version of a base product, blush, highlighter etc. and there doesn't seem to be many unique shades or concepts in the range.

Glitter does fix everything. When I feel like trash, be sparkly trash ✨
i was just looking to see if you had any rare beauty reviews, i would love to see a full brand review at some point! i can’t tell if the products are actually good or are just popular right now
I’d love a Rare Beauty review ❤
I think a "finally trying rare beauty" video would be great! You're right- a lot of ppl are still into it
I have had a specific color palette I buy for my clothes too since about 2010, and it makes shopping and dressing SIGNIFICANTLY easier.
I do really love the Rare Beauty mascara, the tinted moisturizer, and the lip gloss balm things. They are wonderful products and fairly affordable.
The Dior palettes look like they could be props from Mean Girls. Can't decide if they're better suited for the plastics or Amy Pohler's character. She is a cool mom after all.
Love the rare beauty blushes and highlighters! The formulas and finishes are so nice.
Please please do Rare Beauty in the new year!! I would watch....
Core memory unlocked 😂 : Now everytime I see a palette with that Dior color story my mind will go straight to Neapolitan ice cream lol
Rare beauty does go very pale and does go quite neutral.
I like their liquid blushes!
Could listen to you for ever and always, never feel more clear in my mind than after your videos! Thank you for the mindfulness you offer to us ! :))
I was quite literally thinking to myself how I loved that you still do the sign-off kiss, and how it's a sweet little gesture...and then you said you might stop doing it 😅 do whatever feels right, of course, but I vote that it stays. 😘
KEEP THE OUTRO LINE. IT GIVES ME A HUG EVERY TIME ❤❤❤❤❤❤ (enthusiasm, not yelling 😂)
It’s the main reason I didn’t buy the glossier multichromes.
especially if it's circles in a square/rectangular pan 😨
I adore the rare beauty mascara and it completely took me by surprise. I think you would adore it too as someone who loves ilia limitless. It’s just so easy to use, endlessly buildable, but so lengthening and separating. ❤❤❤.
I agree..I think the beauty industry doesn't know what do as it's literally Spring 2023 and a bore at that. The major gifting holidays ended on Cyber Monday. I love the off the cuff style. It's perfect for hot takes. Yes to the Rare Beauty review. I have only tried a lip product from Rare and would love to hear your full brand review.
Omg the new kaleidos campaign is so good! their marketing team always kills it.
I really love the liquid blushes and mascara from Rare beauty! I really do like the brand and think people would be here for the review!
Pretty please when are you going to review your new Lisa Eldridge lipstick and eyeshadows 😤
Would loveeeee a rare beauty video 🎉
Unprepared Hot Takes Hannah slays
I just love your content and thoughtful, true to yourself approach. Never stop please.
you are just such a joy. thank you for sharing with us. happy saturday
I love these unprepared ones!! It's fun to see the excitement!
I'd like to hear what you think about Rare Beauty
Please always keep your outro, it's such a good reminder for me as a fellow poet. 💖
Love the rusty crusty realness ❤️ just always happy to have you grace my screen with your hot takes ❤️❤️🙏
