I have managed to not buy anything apart from one Pat McGrath concealer in the first 3 months of 2023. I only bought that as I really enjoy the formula but the shade I already had was too dark in winter and I was in an airport and got 20% off - which made it about £15! Compared to spending maybe £200 a month, I have gotten things under control. Thank you x
The Pat McGrath concealer is AMAZING. It's a bit too matte for several parts of my face, but for the undereyes, it's incredible. It lasts so long that I can CONFIDENTLY recommend buying it on a discount. Recrntly, it had gotten a bit too old that it was starting to get crepey even under my eyes... RIP. It was hard for me to pluck up the courage to buy a new concealer, because I was scared of spending a lot of money. But... For as often as I use concealer & as long as it takes me to use it up, I think it's one of the few items of makeup I can justify a higher price tag on. I replaced it w/ the Ultra Creamy Shape Tape - it's not as full coverage as Pat's, but it's way more hydrating & the shade is less yellow on me. I never imagined giving my money to Tarte & I kinda hate it, but I got anxious at Ulta & it's turned out to be really good on me, lol.🙃

The thing about the saie foundation that I find most off putting (but I could see my non-beauty friends loving) is that they say to wear it with no problem or minimal skincare because it’s like 85% skincare 15% tint or something. I REBEL at the idea of changing my carefully curated routine and replacing my skincare with whatever ingredients this brand have deemed priorities. Also your comment about how drugstore brands have been duping high end products “forever” got me immediately obsessed thinking about the history of dupes. I am going to do some poking around to see if anyone has written about what some of the first “dupes” were!
Yes, also I'm always wearing sunscreen, and their "serum" is not gonna penetrate it, why would I modify my skincare routine for a foundation? Not gonna happen
desaturated colours generally have pigments other than white added to them in order to desaturate them, that's why they generally look ashy/gray/muddy instead of just lightened. that's why it's always better to get saturated colours to desaturate personally to the actual skin tone. (Hannah, it's kinda like the sitch w full coverage concealers that you like: if it's for you, it's better to get the full coverage and thin it out yourself.)

“The marketing always gets me” - I needed someone to say that out loud to snap me out of the lip gloss trance I was in. Those bottles were gorgeous but I already have three lip glosses and I enjoy all three on my very average face which will never metamorphosize into large, full, perfectly symmetric lips 👄 no matter how many bottles of lip gloss I own or use. Following this channel is one of the smartest things I have done so far this year. I love beautiful things but I don’t have to own all of them and I certainly don’t have to trade a piece of my life for them. Thank you for reminding me again and again to love the things I own.
The new Kaja Jelly Blush/Lips are SOOOOO GOOOD!! They are that Jelly formula that feels and looks so beautiful on the lips. And looks so luscious on the cheeks. And it does have a doe-foot applicator. It really is a different formula than anything I've ever tried.
This red color top and the lip are so beautiful on you! I have realized that olive skins goes very well with red, but this is a color that I feel super self-conscious in, I wish I can be confident to wear more red. ❤

I do not want to make things worse, but the Nabla jelly thing really makes my lips look like the ad pictures 😂 the only colour I wanted and bought with a lucky 20% off is Ardor and boy, it delivered. Not as lip oil-feeling as I would have loved, but it has a great gripping power and beautiful juicy and nuanced effect on the lips

I find that loreal has a better shade selection for olive undertones as to maybelline. I always end up with too much yellow when ever I buy a maybelline foundation. With loreal the tones in proglow foundation I’m closer to a tue olive undertone. When I’m at my palest I use 205 which almost has a dirty green undertone. For me it’s a tin 20:52 y bit too light ( it matches my neck perfect during winter), so it might be worth a try. Lovely video as alway! ❤

Fully agree about the color correctors having too much white!! The only ones I could ever find with enough pigment arecthe Smashbox color correcting pencils! (I forget the actual name but can go look in my makeup bag! - I hope they aren't discontinued!)
My dream influencer launch would be an HLP line of complexion products for desaturated/neutral/olive people, of all depths. I'm going to try to will it into existence.
Hannah, have you ever tried the Missha BB Cream? I just watched the beginning of your other video, where you talked about saturation and Missha has what you’re looking for, I’m pretty sure. Also, it’s got coverage. The shade 13 is super light, so I’d guess that would be yours. They don’t have many shades but they all lean grey. I don’t know how they do it but they’re really beautiful formulas and I think you’d enjoy it.
Have you tried Cicapair which is a green color correcting treatment? I love it! Works better than any that I have tried and there has been a lot of them😕
I got a new (I think) blush from essence in the color “goldy cassis” and I love it so much! It like the color of a bruise but shiny and i mean that in the best way possible!

Oh Hannah I tried Tartes green color corrector yesterday in Ulta. It's actually kind of bright, neon, pea green. Not a nice color, but I thought it would actually be good for my bright red face. Nope! It disnt bkend into my skin. It sat ontop if my skin in the weirdest way. It didn't neutralize the red...it legit just stayed green, which I thought was really odd, considering how red my face is! Idk.... I didn't like it at all!!!!
Have you looked into the brand flower knows before? Their chocolate line has some super pale browny blushes that look right up your alley but they're powders
I feel you on the lip product ads. Sort of like how shampoo ads include a hot dude cuddling the lady at the end. “If you use our shampoo, you too will find true love!”

Re: color corrector, don't know if you've even tried it - there is one from the K-beauty brand called The Saem in the color "Green Beige". Thought you might be interested :) Esp. since these are pretty affordable (even if the bottles are tiny).
In general k-beauty brands have pretty interesting shade ranges - limited to very light shades, yes, but there lots of olive-leaning or even grey-leaning products (see Missha - their BB creams are straight grey tbh)
I'm boring. I'm sticking with my Phytosurgence and Westman Atelier goodies. For skin tints, I just take my favorite makeup and mix it with moisturizer - lighter or heavier moisturizer depending on the day. xoxo
Ya, even though we have nearly identical muted undertones, this shows how you can carry primaries much more easily than I ever have. Wow, you are wearing that red top - it is not wearing you. Also, love that makeup look, HLP. That give thunderbolt eye pencil has me curious. As usual, I'll have to look at the ingredients. That said, lavenders & purplish lilacs are the **go to** hues for my eye area, so that lawless palette is of interest. Having murky, grey-green eyes, many colors can really stomp on their appearance, but lavenders support them in the best way. Those stila lip jelly oils are also of interest. One appears silvery, and my lips love coolish shimmers. BTW, did you see how green that gucci foundation was that Kackie tried? If it was more than a glorified tinted bottle of silcones I would try it. Thanks, HLP!
A BUNCH of brands are currently doing a lip formula that would in theory be so appealing to me ... but brosephine, I am not obtuse enough to buy a slim-format lipstick that's like *half* the amount of product of a "normal" lipstick for the same price. If your slim glossy lip tint gets into a price-per-ounce level that's on par with Hermes, I'm out. Esp when I google swatches and see that real-life application is nowhere near as strongly pigmented as what the brand's own pics show. Ok it's sheerer than advertised, so I'll have to use twice as much to get that color, but it's also half the amount, so I run out four times as fast? :(

I'll share I've been using these three Multi Stick Trio Face Makeup, Cream Blush Stick for Cheeks & Lips, Contour Stick & Highlighter Makeup Sticks for All Skin… by BayFree. Three sticks for less than $20! They allow me to highlight, tone and blush in less than 5 minutes. It's lightweight and may need touching up but I love them! I have good skin underneath so the sheerness doesn't bother me. It's a feature instead!
The New Makeup Hot Takes intro with the steel drum music is pretty great...I'd be interested in a review of the Maybelline serum tint. I'm intrigued because of all the reasons you listed.
I think the most interesting releases are the Superstay serum foundation, the UD liners, and the NARS & Nabla balmy lipsticks. I'd honestly really love your review on that. I crave a serum-y foundation that's comfortable to wear but doesn't melt off the face. I think the UD liners will be such a fun addition for people who do winged liner. Be unexpected with a cobalt wing or grass green wing. The Nars and Nabla releases remind me of the Clinique Almost Lipsticks, the defunct Marc Jacobs gloss sticks, & the L'Oreal Colour Riche Shine lipsticks in appearance but I wonder if they're more like the FRESH sugar lipbalms in application. If you were wanting to review the NARS one, I wouldn't object. I'd love to know because the almost lipsticks and shine lipsticks are awesome but the sugar balms really should be non-retractable or in a pot.

I've never purchased any of Huda Beauty's complexion products; but I did swatch her last concealer release, & the lightest shade is GLORIOUSLY pale & desaturated. It's basically a neutral off-white...even LIGHTER than Rose Inc. It felt like a nice formula, & a great option as a highlighting or mixing shade for us pale peeps. It was from her original HB line, not Glowish; but it WASN'T scented. Huda's strong use of fragrance has stopped me from even considering purchasing any of her previous skin products.
You look kind of scrubbed and healthy and Swedish here. Like you should be eating a bowl of yogurt and berries : ) I like it! (Not that “Angry Eyes” makeup doesn’t have its place.)
10:51 One correction here... MAC is the OG. IMO, Dior's Backstage Glow is a copy of Mac's Face and Body Foundation. I purchased the Mac one because Lisa Eldridge said it was her favorite foundation.
Those YSL color-correcting primers intensely remind me of k-beauty primers. I can’t put my finger on it, something about the pastel shades and fancy tubes.
Man, the thing you said about wanting the lips but that it’s impossible to get anything other than the color… that’s it! Lately I keep thinking to myself “the jeans do not come with that butt.”
The major "high-end dupes a luxury product" thing that I can think of is YSL Touche Éclat. As in...there used to be just YSL Touche Éclat, and then it got name-dropped a bunch and like four high-end brands and a couple other luxury brands made exactly the same kind of "illuminating concealer/corrector" in a click pen. That's years ago now, though.
I am feeling the Too Faced Italian Spritz palette because of the baby blue shimmer. There are a few palettes grabbing my attention specifically because of shades like that in matte and metalic formulas. I am trying to remember I have thay shade in my Cinderella palette by Sigma and the blue in the Menagerie Serenity palette.
You may call it "desaturated," but I call it gorgeous! How you can wear bright red and not have it totally undo the results of whatever green color corrector you use is beyond me. I had to give up on red clothing a long time ago; nothing lighter than dark berry or maroon. Love your whole look, and your intelligent attitude in this presentation!

For the jelly lips, I prefer to use a liner under a jelly I already have. I get to choose and it is so much more satisfying.

Fully agree about the color correctors having too much white!! The only ones I could ever find with enough pigment arecthe Smashbox color correcting pencils! (I forget the actual name but can go look in my makeup bag! - I hope they aren't discontinued!)

Hannah, have you ever tried the Missha BB Cream? I just watched the beginning of your other video, where you talked about saturation and Missha has what you’re looking for, I’m pretty sure. Also, it’s got coverage. The shade 13 is super light, so I’d guess that would be yours. They don’t have many shades but they all lean grey. I don’t know how they do it but they’re really beautiful formulas and I think you’d enjoy it.
I do think she mentioned this in an older video, along with another k-beauty brand. Purito maybe? She liked it!

Oh Hannah I tried Tartes green color corrector yesterday in Ulta. It's actually kind of bright, neon, pea green. Not a nice color, but I thought it would actually be good for my bright red face. Nope! It disnt bkend into my skin. It sat ontop if my skin in the weirdest way. It didn't neutralize the red...it legit just stayed green, which I thought was really odd, considering how red my face is! Idk.... I didn't like it at all!!!!

Re: color corrector, don't know if you've even tried it - there is one from the K-beauty brand called The Saem in the color "Green Beige". Thought you might be interested :) Esp. since these are pretty affordable (even if the bottles are tiny).
In general k-beauty brands have pretty interesting shade ranges - limited to very light shades, yes, but there lots of olive-leaning or even grey-leaning products (see Missha - their BB creams are straight grey tbh)

I'm boring. I'm sticking with my Phytosurgence and Westman Atelier goodies. For skin tints, I just take my favorite makeup and mix it with moisturizer - lighter or heavier moisturizer depending on the day. xoxo
Ya, even though we have nearly identical muted undertones, this shows how you can carry primaries much more easily than I ever have. Wow, you are wearing that red top - it is not wearing you. Also, love that makeup look, HLP.
That give thunderbolt eye pencil has me curious. As usual, I'll have to look at the ingredients. That said, lavenders & purplish lilacs are the **go to** hues for my eye area, so that lawless palette is of interest. Having murky, grey-green eyes, many colors can really stomp on their appearance, but lavenders support them in the best way. Those stila lip jelly oils are also of interest. One appears silvery, and my lips love coolish shimmers.
BTW, did you see how green that gucci foundation was that Kackie tried? If it was more than a glorified tinted bottle of silcones I would try it.

A BUNCH of brands are currently doing a lip formula that would in theory be so appealing to me ... but brosephine, I am not obtuse enough to buy a slim-format lipstick that's like *half* the amount of product of a "normal" lipstick for the same price. If your slim glossy lip tint gets into a price-per-ounce level that's on par with Hermes, I'm out. Esp when I google swatches and see that real-life application is nowhere near as strongly pigmented as what the brand's own pics show. Ok it's sheerer than advertised, so I'll have to use twice as much to get that color, but it's also half the amount, so I run out four times as fast? :(

I'll share I've been using these three Multi Stick Trio Face Makeup, Cream Blush Stick for Cheeks & Lips, Contour Stick & Highlighter Makeup Sticks for All Skin… by BayFree. Three sticks for less than $20! They allow me to highlight, tone and blush in less than 5 minutes. It's lightweight and may need touching up but I love them! I have good skin underneath so the sheerness doesn't bother me. It's a feature instead!

I think the most interesting releases are the Superstay serum foundation, the UD liners, and the NARS & Nabla balmy lipsticks. I'd honestly really love your review on that. I crave a serum-y foundation that's comfortable to wear but doesn't melt off the face. I think the UD liners will be such a fun addition for people who do winged liner. Be unexpected with a cobalt wing or grass green wing. The Nars and Nabla releases remind me of the Clinique Almost Lipsticks, the defunct Marc Jacobs gloss sticks, & the L'Oreal Colour Riche Shine lipsticks in appearance but I wonder if they're more like the FRESH sugar lipbalms in application. If you were wanting to review the NARS one, I wouldn't object. I'd love to know because the almost lipsticks and shine lipsticks are awesome but the sugar balms really should be non-retractable or in a pot.

I've never purchased any of Huda Beauty's complexion products; but I did swatch her last concealer release, & the lightest shade is GLORIOUSLY pale & desaturated. It's basically a neutral off-white...even LIGHTER than Rose Inc. It felt like a nice formula, & a great option as a highlighting or mixing shade for us pale peeps. It was from her original HB line, not Glowish; but it WASN'T scented. Huda's strong use of fragrance has stopped me from even considering purchasing any of her previous skin products.

10:51 One correction here... MAC is the OG. IMO, Dior's Backstage Glow is a copy of Mac's Face and Body Foundation. I purchased the Mac one because Lisa Eldridge said it was her favorite foundation.

The major "high-end dupes a luxury product" thing that I can think of is YSL Touche Éclat. As in...there used to be just YSL Touche Éclat, and then it got name-dropped a bunch and like four high-end brands and a couple other luxury brands made exactly the same kind of "illuminating concealer/corrector" in a click pen. That's years ago now, though.

I am feeling the Too Faced Italian Spritz palette because of the baby blue shimmer. There are a few palettes grabbing my attention specifically because of shades like that in matte and metalic formulas. I am trying to remember I have thay shade in my Cinderella palette by Sigma and the blue in the Menagerie Serenity palette.
