Patti always kept her vocal chords tight and shut. Mariah often leaked air and she was a smoker and an alcoholic. Whitney did drugs and smoked. And Whitney's lows also often leaked air.
That's bcuz of her nodules. makes her easier to access whistle register but at the same flip to falsetto or breathy notes equally easy if not easier. I think the biggest reason is the alcoholic habit & overworking. whitney too with the overworking aside of smoking & drugs(mainly the former 2).

@David Garcia She's never been a Soprano and you can change your vocal type; matter of fact, many of the greats have due to natural ability or nature taking it's course. Many opera singers do this exact same thing so even with your nasty comments, you can't prove to me that she was a natural soprano because she wasn't.
Crazy thing about this video and a lot of Patti comparison videos is that it has a lot of performances to compare Patti in her 50s and even upper 60s, lol. Everyone scared to use videos from Patti in the 1980's. Now that videos from her labelle days are up I would love to hear those lack of agility and musicality arguments. Her labelle days proves she would have taken a shat on any artist.
Agreed. Nor will they dare compare Patti to any singer in the early 90s from the When a Woman's Loves tour or her iconic live performance all over RUclips. She has an ethereal range, vocal agility, and power that is unparalleled. Whitney was great but no voice on this earth, living or dead can match Patti Labelle. Luther said, "If the universe wanted a representative, Patti would be it and James Budd Ellison, stated and rightfully so, she has the greatest voice that has ever existed. It is too bad, that when we look back at history and her live recordings, will finally see how Patti stands out from all the rest. God made 1 voice and He broke that mold forever when he made Patti Labelle.
Both powerful voices. The sound of Whitney's voice was pure magic. Patti is a full soprano and had a lot of ease and stamina in the upper reaches of her belting range. I enjoy both but Whitney the more

If that doesn't show a rigorous amount of time put into harnessing her instrument, idk what else. Factor in the support? Asses get drilled with resonance? Yas godmother of all legends
why didn't you show off Patti blowing the roof off in the sixth octave? :( Or at least some B5s. Lel. I'm such a sucker for her belts
i think it's mostly because then there'd be comments like "oh patti got more notes than whitney! ur biased!1!1!1!1!1!1!1!1!!!"
i need more of these.
Whitney looked beautiful belting, us singers have to make some faces getting them notes out, but Whitney made it Beautiful ~
How cool! Luv 'my' Whitney!
I just really like how high and powerful PATTIS voice is she took this one in my opinion hands down
Now mezzos please 😍
Whitney was/is a mezzo-soprano
@David Garcia what...?
@David Garcia She's never been a Soprano and you can change your vocal type; matter of fact, many of the greats have due to natural ability or nature taking it's course. Many opera singers do this exact same thing so even with your nasty comments, you can't prove to me that she was a natural soprano because she wasn't.
@@thunderstorm__8147 soubrettes are non-existant -- you are either a full-lyric, coloratura, or a dramatic soprano for that specific voice category.
tonshaad1230 Whitney was always a soprano
How patti how. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Queen whitney no one will beat her voice. .RIP nippy
The voice of a young Patti LaBelle has no equal.
That's the damn truth!
Both powerful voices. The sound of Whitney's voice was pure magic. Patti is a full soprano and had a lot of ease and stamina in the upper reaches of her belting range. I enjoy both but Whitney the more
Amazing
WHITNEYS SOPRANO IS SO BEAUTIFUL. SHES THE VOICE, THE DIVA OF ALL DIVAS, PROM QUEEN OF SOUL, QUEEN OF BALLADS, QUEEN OF MUSIC, AND QUEEN OF R&B/POP…. ALSOS SHE DOESNT NEED TO SCREAM LIKE THAT OTHER LADY
3:10 resonance 😢
still whitney is thebest. for me..i love her so much.
They turned Patti's mic OFF for the E5! Go look at the original clip.
I need she was 65 y.o at the time! As a matter of fact that performance night made European headlines saying 65 y.o patti labelle stole the show at Nobel peace prize. It was on front page of a newspaper
Simplesmente intérpretes fenomenais!
🇧🇷🎶
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I only have one thing to say miss Whitney Houston
Aaaaah, the ultra-vibrato I need from Patti is here...
6:27 is my favorite.
queen patti labelle takes the crown
My “if I can take only one singer’s work to a deserted island” singers ( Can’t choose one over the other, ever !) along with Phyllis Hyman.
I am curious - are you going to continue your vocal profiles on tumblr? I've been following your blog for a while, but it seems you're more active here, so I'm gonna subscribe here too:).
Both are different singers, but for my list of favorite female singers it's 1) Whitney 2) Patti 3) Galdys 4) Vanessa Bell Armstrong 5) Ann Nesby
Please make another series!!!!!!!
Love Patti w the Afro!
Whitney is the greatest singer in the world period
These two along with Aretha would be the top three greatest singers of all time
I think of Patti Labelle as a savage dragon, capable of taking down any vocal competitor. Whitney, for me, was a solid block of gold -- consistently good from top to bottom, outside in. They are different. Both excellent. I just prefer Whitney's tempered and more refined vocal delivery.
it seems to me that houston has a bigger more powerful voice, the notes are heavier in houston, that of patti are too but less percussive and resonant, she mixes the more I find e we hear a difference in the resonance and the ring
What was that performance called at 6:25
0:18 song?
Somebody Loves You Baby
what is the name of the song she's singing in 2:27?
I'm searching for that too 😂
found it ruclips.net/video/34ZNF9JI7nw/видео.html
Hold up the light. Baby was in her prime 🔥
Powerhouses in their own right. Two different styles. Two different deliveries though. I really don't get the overall comparison.
Why did you stop at G5 with Patti LaBelle? Patti LaBelle's belts in her upper chest extends to B5. In fact, she was known as the B5 Queen in her upper chest belts all though the 80's-90's.
She reaches higher than B5 in chest
I know she reaches D6 for sure
what is the song at 2:16?
Diễn Vũ Văn Didn’t we almost have it all
Whitney houston
02:26 can someone please tell what song is that?
Hold up the light
Literally,Whitney belted out live an ocean of F#5's,G5's & G#5's,always with perfect diction and truly great agility.Consistency.
Her downward runs starting from up there are truly fascinating.
I have a question, whitney used a lot her mixed voice or did she sing most of the time with her chest voice (voice when she speak) I have a doubt
chest voice for me ... or balanced pattie for me sings more with a mixture for that it makes longer notes
it seems to me that houston has a bigger more powerful voice, the notes are heavier in houston, that of patti are too but less percussive and resonant, she mixes the more I find e we hear a difference in the resonance and the ring
whitney has a few G#5s as well. As for patti, why only stop at G5? I think she's capable to support higher, idk her consistency tho.
Andreanata Noivan I kept the range the same for every video, Bb4-G5
Ahh okay then.. but I'm curious with patti's consistent supported range for her mix. how high she got that?
Andreanata Noivan G#5/A5 I believe
Erick Freiria I know Lara has G5, and perhaps B5 in head voice but I’m not sure ab her lower register as I haven’t heard much of it. It’s nothing better than average however, which is her biggest vocal flaw
Thank you for keep replying :) G#5/A5 is really great. I thought her consistency is only on F#5. well I've never listened to her that much so yeah, it's wrong. Patti's vibrato tho.. Is it the problem with dramatic voices? Bcuz Monica also has it :|
Where is the mezzos!!!
Yonce & Mimi didn’t make sense to include them in a series with a bunch of sopranos tbh. I’d use a different range to accurately display mezzo prowess.
MrSkinnyJeanz3 Ohh Okeey I undestand! ❤
@Aaro Tähtivuori Chaka is a Lyric Mezzo Soprano.
YESSSSSSSSSS
