I've had the pleasure of recording all of the ADR with Wes for the last 3 seasons of Race Against the Tide, here in Saint John. Wonderful human being and very deserving of this award!!
It was an honour to be a part of this historic moment. Our host, Infinite, is included in the tribute and our other host, Louise Jackson Media producing Infinite's Clip. Congratulations to Maestro Fresh Wes for continuing to Make History. God Father of Canadian Hip Hop.
Growing up, this man was IT!! We could listen to any American rapper but we chose to listen to Maestro Fresh Wes. His songs and videos still stand the test of time. And the fact that he thanked Electric Circus is so real lol
Having grown up in the Maestro era his music transcends just like the Sugar Hill Gang. He was that to me, to us Black people in Canada. I was and am so proud of this beautiful Black man representing our hip hop industry globally. I met him while digging a memorial garden in North Preston, he was introduced to me as “Maestro” and I in my infinite wisdom covered in dirt, didn’t really pay attention and I said like in “Maesto Fresh Wes” and I started singing “Let Your Back Bone Slide” and he said “ one of the same”. I stopped looked up and my dumb ass realized I am staring the master in his face. I can’t remember how many shades of red I turned but he was super funny and sweet, and humbled that we knew EXACTLY WHO HE WAS, 15 yrs later at that time. And he loved that we loved his music. Now seeing that I work trying to get our Black youth in trades and he is doing the same blows my mind. He deserves every honour we can bestow on him he is the real deal and the exact kind of mentor our youth need. Congrats your highness!!!
