As somebody who used to own a Nissan Silvia, I definitely regret selling my Silvia for 12,000 dollars back in college, there goes my story about one of my biggest regret.
With a proper setup, the S15 is a track weapon, not just a drifting toy. I can't understand how they can state that there is no market for a track focused, affordable car. Japanese cars in general the pas years have lost their character, it has been all about "trendy & futuristic" crap for a while. I'm just waiting for that cycle to end.
I'm the second owner of a 98 S14 that I got in late 99. The previous owner was older person that didn't keep it long and treated it well. Less than 20K miles and the car was virtually new. I've been into the import scene since my latter high school years (mid 90s). At that time the Zenki had appealed to me but as soon as I saw the face lift (Kouki), I knew that was going to be my next car. 2019 I still have it. Only did an engine rebuild. But other than that, unmolested.
I think a na v6 with a turbo option would be better Nissan has a few good v6s but not many 4s the frs sucks it should have the straight 6 or v6 a Honda Civic is faster than the frs and won’t blow a head gasket. The same guy was in charge of the supra and frs project both a fail imho but he did have a lot to live up to
I don’t understand what all the Japanese car manufacturers saying there isn’t a market anymore. Toyota has sold a heap of gt86 and are still making it since 2012. Mazda Mx5 is one of the best selling convertible in the world and people still buy the nd. If you class the r35 as “jdm” they still sell those for 10 years now. The only current jdm car that’s not going super well is the 370z which is a 10 year old car that looks like a car from the early 2000’s. What I am trying to say here is there is still a market and I don’t understand how car manufacturers don’t see people tuning their old cars. I own a 97 supra (the mk4 N/A cause that’s was the only one they sold here in Australia) and I purposely take to the Toyota dealership to get it serviced so they see people want a new jdm car. The gt86 will go down in the history books as one of the greats. But it great to see car manufacturers doing something about it. Toyota have brought out a Yaris gazoo (whatever it’s called) hot hatch and that’s a great car. Toyota bringing back the supra and even though most people know it won’t be as good as the mk4/3 it might be a cracking car. I really hope that Nissan will bring out a s16. A lot of other Japanese car manufacturers are having success with new generation of jdm so Nissan should see the same

Because no matter how many sports cars they sell, selling a bunch of regular cars the rest of the world wants makes them more money. Remember the only reason Honda, Toyota, Subaru and Mazda can afford to make sports cars now is because they significantly sell more regular cars.

I've had my 200sx RS13U (european spec, which comes with the CA18DET) for 14 years. I bought it from an 82 year old man, Mr Price, who stayed in my home town, Cape Town South Africa. He imported it brand new in 1992 from Belgium to South Africa. I bought it from him (I was the second owner from brand new) for R18 000 ($1158) in 2008, it had 78 000km (48 000 miles) Full service history, everything was OEM, including the rims, radio, sunroof bag, full tool kit and jack and some other OEM goodies from Nissan in Belgium. After 14 years of ownership, she still puts a smile on my face, hearing the turbo and exhaust sound. Looking at her all polished and clean always makes me think what a beautiful car that Japanese made. My 200sx still is OEM, with a full service history, original radiator, original shocks, original springs (never cut), still stock height, original rims, original midnight blue paint, the only upgrade i ever did to my car, was a stainless steel exhaust and T28/T25 turbo, original exhaust manifold, original injectors. She is making a reliable 158kws and 285nm. The current milage is a very healthy 184 000kms (114 332 miles) still full service history, i change the oil and oil filter every 5000kms (3100 miles). If you guys would like to see pictures of my car follow me on instagram @200sx_ca18det
Not 180SX specifically. The first JDM 180SX and EUDM 200SX (both chassi code RS13) and also the 89-91 Silvia (chassi code S13) had a CA18DET. Later on the upgraded 180SX (chassi code changed to RPS13) and the also Silvia (chassi code changed to PS13) got a SR20DET. The 200SX for the european market was never upgraded to SR20DET, they just went straight ahead to the S14.
We filmed it but it got cut. We try hard to find the balance between education and entertainment. With things like engine codes, it's easy for it to feel too "listy". Besides, the CA18 is pretty weak. haha
Have owned s13 and s14 and r32 i truly believe the s14 is one of the best cars from nissan with sr20det and 50/50 weight distribution its truly a lovely drive and can be a amazing daily/race/track/togue car 🔥
I love how "officially" the S15 isn't road legal in the US but through a loop hole Adam LZ has a 950 horsepower, 3.4 stroker 2JZ, sequential gearbox drift weapon of an S15 with a license plate on it. Although it can only do a limited amount of miles on public roads that thing is baller
Finally got a decent pop up headlights s13 beauty 2 weeks ago. She needs work and attention, but where I live (France) it gets a crazy amount of attention. Even from just normal people who don't give a shit about cars.People love it. So nissan saying it's a niche market is BS. Im learning a LOT from your channel, so thank you guys!
Jason Parker The GTO and/or Firebird definitely needs to be done. Actually, there’s a number of European/American cars that needs to be done. *cough*fordgt*cough*.
This channel makes me wish I had more money to buy cars and more car-knowledge so I can make good decisions on which cars I buy. Like, I've watched at least 100 of your videos but I feel like the only information I've retained is "moa powah bay-beh" and that flip-up headlights are the coolest things.
+1.. And to that note, of what I know a S13 with a SR20 is called a PS13. The PS13 comes without popup headligths and is only made with RHD. I have NEVER seen a from factory S13 (popup headlights) with a SR20.. But I guess these cars is made in 100 different variations, with just as many different names, so who knows whether they made a few special ones or not..
@@neilduncan8657 was thinking of buying a 86’ s12, and possibly swapping it with an sr20det, any information or warnings I should know about the s12 chassis in general?

If I have one (S15), I'd mod and tune it to do street driving, touge driving, on-track grip driving and drifting. Power-wise, I think 250 WHP might do.

Tell that to Mitsubishi not Donut Media for crying out loud
ethan aldrich lamatan Either way more evo fan build up maybe MAYBE bring back the evo. Mitsubishi still wants their fans to support them.
Free my man L. Evo

You must either be a kid or someone living under a rock, in case you haven't heard Mitsu wants to fill the roads with SUVs and make profit, the fanbase isn't 90% of their sales you know.
Also, off topic.

Wholesome story man.

Yo James how could you not mention the ca18det that also came in the s13 wtf?!?!
Marc Wenzel, ca18de and ca18det also came in S12. Even a twin spark version(8 spark plugs)
Of course also in the S12. I was so focused on pointing out the differences between the S13 models that I left the S12 out :D
We filmed it but it got cut. We try hard to find the balance between education and entertainment. With things like engine codes, it's easy for it to feel too "listy". Besides, the CA18 is pretty weak. haha
Oof
Have owned s13 and s14 and r32 i truly believe the s14 is one of the best cars from nissan with sr20det and 50/50 weight distribution its truly a lovely drive and can be a amazing daily/race/track/togue car 🔥
Everything you need to know - Toyota Soarer/Lexus SC300
Islandsoundzz yes, please, but I prefer the 1UZ-FE (SC400) variant
I love how "officially" the S15 isn't road legal in the US but through a loop hole Adam LZ has a 950 horsepower, 3.4 stroker 2JZ, sequential gearbox drift weapon of an S15 with a license plate on it. Although it can only do a limited amount of miles on public roads that thing is baller
Ah, the good ole days when Datsun and Nissan were the best! Still my favorite cars till this day!
Maybe because it's highly uncommon over there?
Love this series it’s like an actual interesting history class haha
This segment is Donuts bread and butta
MikefromQueens science garage and wheel house are great too
Serious Taco yes they are. But there can be only one bread & butta
bred&butta
Up to speed on the Pontiac GTO soon okay, I will be waiting.
Jason Parker The GTO and/or Firebird definitely needs to be done. Actually, there’s a number of European/American cars that needs to be done. *cough*fordgt*cough*.
*UP*
Fuck yess
This channel makes me wish I had more money to buy cars and more car-knowledge so I can make good decisions on which cars I buy. Like, I've watched at least 100 of your videos but I feel like the only information I've retained is "moa powah bay-beh" and that flip-up headlights are the coolest things.
5:12 is where nostalgia hits us right in the fawwwcking head
In Europe our S13 had the CA18DET engine. Not the SR20. At least in Sweden
It was true in France too
Robin Lardel in Europe...
We got them too here in Australia, guess we were special enough to get an option hahaha
Here in argentina our 200sx s13 got a ca18det also
Some of our s13 have sr20 but there is not even like hundred silvias in finland
USA KA24
“Rest of the world SR20DET”
How could you forget about the European CA18DET
+1 ! Also Japan had the CA18 for the Zenki S13
@@j.lozano9092 correct! I had a '90 s13 in Japan and confirm it was the Ca18Det.
I love the headlight squeaking on the s12 ... a true nissan
0:23 That head bob gets me every time
Thinking about how the S12 basically doesn’t even exist hurts my heart.
I have two S-12's 1986 notch CA20E and a 302 swapped 1984 hatch love them both!!
I got one too! its a 86 notch back CA20E, the paint holds up nice for being a 34 yr old car
I had an S12 before it was stolen, just the stock CA20.
@@neilduncan8657 was thinking of buying a 86’ s12, and possibly swapping it with an sr20det, any information or warnings I should know about the s12 chassis in general?
I've been waiting for this one!
OhighO Skater lmao me to
Mee toooo😣
It's a damn shame people only seem to care about Silvias as tuned drift cars, and that's why stock Silvias of any model are getting rarer and rarer these days...there's more to them than just *SiDeWaYz™.*
If I have one (S15), I'd mod and tune it to do street driving, touge driving, on-track grip driving and drifting. Power-wise, I think 250 WHP might do.
5:33 what a dope transition.
Sooo many different models and front end swaps with these cars always ensure a ton of customization combinations!
When can we get an episode on Don Yenko and his custom Chevys
Good request. Yenko was the men
Don's daughter currently reviving that Yenko name with partnerships with SVE, you should check them out
I actually wrote a paper on the 69 Yenko Camaro in 9th grade in 2009/10.
MrMaxx6795 Shelby better
Thanks for educating me and let's gooooo S15 will be legal in 2024
Up To Speed: Suzuki Cappuccino
Alfa WF YEAHHHH! SUZUKI CAPPUCCINO!!
Alfa WF And Autozam AZ-1 (same engine as Cap, built also as a Suzuki)

suzuki cappuccino doesn't have much history.. they only existed from 91-97.. even the 86 has more history than the cappuccino
James : talking about Silvia
Tesla at the background :am I a joke to you?
Yeah, kinda
That thing is like a BMW i3 with diabetes. Rather buy the model s then that turd
Yea
TESLA DOESN'T EXIST IN THE JDM WORLD
Just noticed it lol
2 years later and still waiting for the s16
“So there’s a whole market of people asking for us to make the Silvia again, but there’s just no market for it”
S12 LIFE
Nimbus yessss
YES
Nimbus 👌
Yee
Nimbus huh
Wtf has happened to both Nissan and Mitsubishi. Both used to be the best and reliable companies back in the day. And now what?
CVT.
Get 🔙 Nissan and Mitsubishi.
Mitsubishi went broke about 5 years ago and Nissan bought them out. Nissan still makes performance cars like the 370z and r35 gtr.
@@tommm.1538 yeah, two models WAY outside the price range of normal middle class people. Bring back the S chassis.
@@tonystolz4982 not my problem you are poor. Work harder!
@Kawsar Mohammed Shirazul ghosn i guess 🤣
But if charlos ghosn doesn't bought the nissan, nissan will get bankruptcy

up to speed/everything you need to know, Doug de muro, regular car reviews, and motor trend retro review, are THE most educational thing to start learning about cars, i’m teaching my gf and she learned the whole ram series, chevy caviler series, and pontiac aztek series IN ONE WEEK. That includes special editions, correct years of generations, and identifying generations with years, and some small iconic facts and features. By May 2021 she gonna be a professional, this is only the beginning
My first car was my moms 1989 240sx (yes, she was one of the 75%). I loved that car, sadly it was totaled after hitting some ice.

Scottys that's good man. Because even the Nissan Cube is better looking than the Juke.
