Thanks very much for your honesty here David! Very insightful for those who are looking to go though the process, it's a demanding one. Ultimately you absolutely made the right call by disclosing that information - it would have come up later. Cheers!

This is a wild thing to ask, but I live close to Vancouver, and I would love to talk to you more about your experience during the application process. Would you consider meeting up for a coffee and/or social distance walk? No pressure at all, I promise I'm not a crazy person!

Kudos David. That took courage, and the result is one of the best videos you’ve done so far.
Curious that they reacted so strongly to psilocybin just when it’s being rehabilitated as a mainstream psychotherapeutic. To me, it raises the question of whether you’d have felt smothered by that career path.
Also, you got a great suit out of the experience. 😉

@@crawzfit681 Not judging but i'd say it was the lapse in judgement with the drugs. I'm in the hiring process also (with another department). This department has a three year drug free requirement.

The positive side of this is you owned it and didnt try to hide it, so your integrity is still intact. That is the biggest thing for being hired as a police officer. I know police officers who have been hired after confessing to consuming cocaine and the likes of that several years prior.
In a few years when either re-applying to Vancouver or other municipal police services in the lower mainland, you can own that and explain how much you learned from the process. I know the RCMP wants to know that you've been AT LEAST 3 years clean, not sure about municipals. You did the right thing by being honest, had you lied and a polygraph test found you out, you would have certainly permanently tanked your chances of ever becoming a police officer anywhere in Canada.
If you decide policing is still a career you wish to pursue, wait a couple years and be entirely clean (lame, I know) and come back to the table being upfront and honest about your experiences and what you learned, just like you did this time.

Hey man, I just want to say your honesty is really refreshing, so never let go of that. However, I can also see it from the interviewer's perspective. I definitely think taking mushrooms while in the hiring process for the VPD was a very bad decision and demonstrates a lack of judgement and forethought that might exclude you from a job like policing. I get that your curiosity got the better of you, but I was truly flabbergasted when you said you had done it DURING the hiring process. Was there truly no part of you that asked "Is this really a good decision while I'm waiting to hear back from the VPD?". Because if your career in the VPD didn't factor into your decision-making at all, I understand why they terminated your file. It kind of shows that you are wanting to put your personal desires before the principles that you are being expected to uphold. While they want honesty and transparency, they also want someone with good judgement and forethought. Unfortunately, magic mushrooms are still illegal, and consuming them prior to your goal of joining the VPD is understandable, but essentially committing a crime WHILE pursuing a career with the VPD is a bit beyond the pale.
All of that being said, I'll echo what others have expressed already: admitting this was very brave and shows a quality of character that you should never let go of. Best of luck moving forward.

100 percent I agree with everything you're saying. I applied originally out of a feeling of wanting to make a difference and to help others, but I suppose at heart I'll always be a bit of a hedonist that wants to do their own thing...so I suppose it's best that I figured this out before things went any further haha!! Thanks for watching and commenting :)

Not the end. I have a friend who was asked about a fake ID during the polygraph test. He had it on him, he told the truth but they asked him to hand it over. He handed it over and they did not continue with the selection. He got hired on the next selection.

@@crawzfit681 But what really puzzles me is why your interview was originally scheduled to last several hours. That's much longer than the time allotted to most interviews in either the corporate or non-profit worlds. What did these two detectives plan to do? Parse every minute of your life from the time you left the delivery room at the hospital 20-plus years ago?
Moreover, I can't see why the VPD couldn't give you another chance. Even the RCMP, I think, realizes that not every applicant can be squeaky clean 24/7. And the Mounties have a much bigger territory to cover and many more tasks to perform than the cops in Vancouver.

    • @crawzfit681
      @crawzfit681  Год назад

I believe it was to do with me admitting to it while in the application process. I had already sent a list of drugs taken throughout my life (including frequency/approximate dates). This was all my own fault and I accepted that. That being said I think the reaction of the two detectives was a bit over-the-top. Since I've been doing security downtown and watching what cops have to deal with, I'm ok with my overall outcome haha!

    • @crawzfit681

@@crawzfit681 Yes, I think the detectives' reaction was over the top.
But don't give up on your dream of a career in law enforcement. Because you've been doing security in downtown Vancouver, being a cop is obviously something you've set your heart on!
So, why not apply to the RCMP? More pertinent, why not email Steve Watkins, the founder of Real Cops, Reel Life (ruclips.net/user/RealCopsReelLife?app=desktop)?
Not only is he a mountie, but he could likely give you some good solid advice on how to apply to the force or, for that matter, other police departments across Canada.
      Good luck!
